WATCH: Man catches crashes, near misses on video at Avondale intersection near his home
Nicolas Iannucci said he's seen crash after crash since he's lived in his Avondale neighborhood.
Ianuucci said speeding drivers and blind spots that obstruct the view of oncoming traffic are to blame for issues at Herschel and Dancy streets.
Since he bought security cameras, he said he has been documenting the serious car crashes and near misses to take that evidence to the city.
He said he is asking for more traffic-calming measures, like crosswalks, speed cushions, a four-way stop, or a fully functional traffic light.
Iannucci said he sent a 12-page letter to Jacksonville Mayor Donna Deegan. Read the full letter below:

He received a response that told him to reach out to JSO for traffic concerns and call the city's call center for traffic-calming measures.
Iannucci said that isn't enough.
Action News Jax took Iannucci's concerns to his district representative.
Jacksonville City Councilman Jimmy Peluso represents the Avondale community and said he has been made aware of the problematic intersection.

In a statement sent from his office, Peluso said he will work to fund whatever solution traffic engineers develop to address the problems. You can read that full statement below:
'Council Member Peluso has instructed Traffic Engineering to review this intersection specifically to improve sightlines to reduce crashes. We will be installing a crosswalk with additional lighting at the Herschel and Van Wert which we fully expect will slow traffic down in this area. This crosswalk will be a small stretch away from this exact intersection. I can send the renderings if that would be helpful!
'Council Member Peluso will work to fund the solutions the Traffic Engineers develop to make the Herschel and Dancy intersection safer.'
For people like Iannucci who live on Herschel and Dancy, though, they are hoping that change comes soon before more serious crashes happen.

Landscape supervisor turned hero: Man helps over 2 dozen people, pets escape apartment fire
They say not all heroes wear capes, and that is exactly the case with Cornelius Rainey. The people he helped save from a burning apartment complex in Hyde Park on Wednesday night agree. The Landscape supervisor was visiting his family at Riverbank Apartments on Wednesday, June 4, when he quickly realized something was wrong. 'I looked to the left and see fire, flames shooting out the building,' said Rainey. 'That's when I went and helped everyone out of their apartment.' >>> STREAM ACTION NEWS JAX LIVE <<< Around 4:45 pm Wednesday, JFRD responded to a fire at Riverbank apartments in Hyde Park. JFRD said the fire originated in a bedroom inside one of the apartments. The fire quickly spread to the attic, and as a result of that, JFRD told me they told JEA to cut the power off for the entire building. The state fire marshal is currently investigating the cause of the fire. Without hesitating, Rainey said he ran inside the burning building and began banging on residents' doors, telling them it was time to go. 'I was trying to kick people's doors in, burglary style, but it wasn't flying open,' said Rainey. 'And the doors that I didn't get opened, kicked in, it was people actually in those apartments, too.' 'I was knocking on their door. It wouldn't open; I opened the door. She was sitting in the living room. Her husband was trying to get her out. And I just grabbed him. I said 'Move, man. I got her, I got her,' said Rainey. 'I grabbed her and rolled her out. And that's how she got out there.' I asked Rainey why he decided to run into that building. He said it was instinct. 'I just care about people. I was just helping everybody. I couldn't leave them in there. The building was shooting fire, like real big flames,' said Rainey. Rainey told me everyone he helped was extremely grateful to him, and he was just happy that everyone was safe. The Red Cross said it assisted a total of 34 individuals displaced by this fire. In addition, there are also other people displaced. Jackson was on her way back home from work on Wednesday when she got a call telling her apartment building was on fire and she needed to evacuate. 'When I walked up, I just see this black apartment complex,' said Jackson. 'I just moved in literally I haven't been here for not even a month yet. And everything I work hard for is ruined.' I spoke with Riverbank Apartment's Property Manager about what they are doing to help residents during this time. They told me everyone who was impacted by the fire can access their units, but they need to obtain an access pass through the city, which they have available if residents contact them. Drugs, cheeseburgers: Raid inside Fulton County Jail reveals contraband operation, officials say
Deputies and detention officers conducted a raid Thursday inside the main jail in northwest Atlanta and uncovered a contraband operation at the jail annex in Union City. Channel 2 Investigative Reporter Mark Winne got exclusive access to the raid. The shakedown was a rapid response to something discovered outside the jail that alarmed the Fulton County Sheriff's Office – a large hole cut in the fence. [DOWNLOAD: Free WSB-TV News app for alerts as news breaks] 'Just doing regular security rounds, I got on the shift and came back here and discovered this,' said a law enforcement official. In all, three holes were found in three levels of fencing surrounding the complex. Chief Jailer Jarrett Gorlin says they found makeshift fishing line in a cell already closed because someone had burned a hole in the window. He said they were using it to reel in the contraband from outside. Gorlin says inmates commonly use wires in lighting fixtures and pieces of metal ripped from the jail interior to melt holes in cell windows. 'More than likely from last night's load, these are cigarettes that they pack in socks, copious amounts of what appears to be marijuana, cell phone, more homemade shanks, and what they use to burn the windows out,' he said. The sheriff's office says the main jail on Rice Street was not the only facility affected. On Wednesday morning, a deputy assisted by Union City police arrested three people laying down by a hole in the fence at the jail's south annex with bolt cutters nearby. They had a bag containing cigarettes, marijuana, cell phones, candy, vapes, phone chargers, cheeseburgers and more. Child flown to hospital after being hit by car in Greene Co.
A child was flown to the hospital after a crash in Greene County. Around 7 p.m., Greene County Sheriff's Office and Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers were called to the 4200 block of Hussey Road for a crash. An OSP sergeant confirmed a child was hit by a car and flown to Dayton Children's Hospital. Troopers said the driver was taken to their post for questioning. We will continue to follow this story.
