Three people were killed and one injured following a shooting incident in Muizenberg on Saturday night.
It's alleged that the shooting may be linked to the release of a notorious gang member from jail.
Policing in the area has been intensified to prevent any further violence.
Muizenberg residents are living in fear after three people were shot and killed, while another was injured in a shooting on Saturday night.
The bodies of the two women and a man, aged between 29 and 32, were found at Mike Place, Xakabantu, in Muizenberg at around 23:30.
The fourth victim survived after he sustained a gunshot wound and managed to escape. He was rushed to hospital.
According to police spokesperson, Colonel Andre Traut, the suspects fled the scene and have yet to be arrested. He said police had launched an investigation into the shooting.
He said that policing in the area had been intensified to prevent any further violence.
Ward 45 councillor Mandy Marr claimed that the shooting was linked to the release of a notorious gang member from prison.
'We were on a good trajectory in fighting crime in the community,' Marr told News24.
'It's been a peaceful two months without any shooting incidents, and now, following the release of this parolee, the community is faced with such a horrific incident.'
Marr said the shooting seems to be targeted, as the three people who were killed were also members of the Junky Funky Kids gang. However, the fourth person, who sustained a gunshot wound, was an innocent bystander.
She added that following the shooting, residents no longer feel safe in their own community.
'This is a moment of deep sadness for all of us in Overcome Heights, Seawinds, Vrygrond, and Xakabantu. We all deserve to feel safe in our own neighbourhoods.'
Community leader Mike Khumalo said that all four victims were part of the community patrol.
'When people volunteer that they want to be the eyes and ears of the community, it's not our job to judge them, and ask if they are part of a gang or not. They were in uniform, and they had been part of the community patrol for quite some time now,' he said.
Khumalo added that it is possible that the shooting may be related to the release of the parolee.
He said that the decrease in crime in the area can be attributed to the initiatives that his team has introduced to the community, in fighting crime.
