In Arlington, they're World Series-bound for a second year in a row

An Arlington native, Amico also coached last year's team, which featured pitcher and first baseman Rowan Sullivan.
'We went last year and now that I know what it's like, I think we can do a little better than last year,' Sullivan said.

The unsung heroes have been the parents, who plan their summer around traveling to tournaments, games, and practices. Families spent eight days in a hotel during the regional tournament and may stay nine days through the national tournament.

'The parents have been with us every step of the way,' assistant coach Mike Kalivas said, 'Without them shuttling the kids around, we wouldn't have a team.'

The town of Arlington has shown tremendous support on and off the field.
A GoFundMe set up by the AYBSA raised $11,000 in two weeks to fund travel expenses. The 9U, 11U, and 12U teams have helped with practice, scrimmages, and batting practice.
'These kids have had a lot of support with the other groups,' assistant coach Pete Arcoma said, 'It's been really fun for the little guys to look up to the bigger kids today.'

Playing in the national tournament gives players a unique experience. Similar to the Little League World Series, teams from around the world compete.
Cal Ripken baseball is a division of the larger Babe Ruth Baseball League. Bases are set 70 feet apart and the mound is 50 feet away as opposed to 60 and 46 feet in Little League.
Arlington begins World Series play Saturday.
'We want to get there and see if we can win, make the town proud,' Kalivas said, 'I think we have a good shot.'
The Arlington 8U baseball team is headed to Cherry Hills, N.J., for the Cal Ripken 8U Player Pitch World Series.

Little League World Series legend Mo'ne Davis throws first pitch to Nationals OF Robert Hassell III, whom she once struck out
The first pitch before the Washington Nationals' game on Thursday was a full circle moment for two Little League World Series opponent. The pitcher: Mo'ne Davis, one of the biggest viral sensations in the tournament's history. The catcher: Nationals outfielder Robert Hassell III, who faced Davis in 2014. And struck out against her. On his birthday. There were no hard feelings. To be fair to Hassell, he also got a hit off Davis when his Nashville team faced her Philadelphia team, but that was one of only two hits she allowed in an eight-strikeout shutout. That game made her the first female pitcher to earn a win in LLWS history. Hassell even pops up by name in the old SportsCenter highlight reel, complete with narration by Stuart Scott and a tweet from Kevin Durant. Hassell was drafted in the first round of the MLB Draft six years later. He spoke about the experience earlier this year and remained impressed, noting he still follows her on Instagram: "It was crazy. She struck me out, it was on my birthday. Then I got a base hit off her. But yeah, the whole crowd screaming her name, we're really young, it was crazy, but it was really fun ... She was really good." For her part, Davis remembered her coach pointing out Hassell as a dangerous hitter when asked about him Thursday: "I remember before the game, going over the lineup with out coach, he's like 'Yeah, so, they have this kid named Robert, we have to watch out for him. He's a really good hitter, he might be their best hitter, so just be careful, he bats at the top of the lineup.' I'm like, 'Alright, OK.' "He stands close to the plate, I was like, 'Alright, I gotta really lock in here.' I don't want to hit him, get him on base, give them any type of momentum. I was really feeling everything that game. I ended up striking him out which was pretty cool, so I have bragging rights right now. He can't get his redemption back from me." Now 24 years old, Davis was at Nationals Park in connection to the tryouts for the Women's Pro Baseball League scheduled to take place at the same stadium next week. Since the 2014 LLWS, she has released a memoir, played softball at Hampton University and graduated from Columbia University with a master's in sports management. As for Hassell, his bat made him a top 100 prospect in the minor leagues. He was among the many young players the San Diego Padres sent to Washington in the blockbuster Juan Soto trade in 2022. He made his MLB debut this season and entered Thursday slashing. .250/.264/.356 with two homers in 106 plate appearances.

Pennsylvania baseball team loses to South Dakota in 2025 Little League World Series
The Glenmoore Eagle baseball team lost, 2-0, to Sioux Falls, South Dakota, on Thursday night in the 2025 Little League Baseball World Series. The team from Upper Uwchlan Township in Chester County, Pennsylvania, will now head to the elimination bracket. Sioux Falls (Midwest Region) took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning and led the rest of the way. Glenmoore Eagle, which is representing the Mid-Atlantic region, recorded one hit in the loss. Shortstop Ethan Herbein singled on a hard ground ball in the bottom of the first inning. Glenmoore Eagle pitcher Aiden Mercer pitched five innings and allowed eight hits and two runs. He also struck out four batters. For Glenmoore Eagle, it's the team's first trip to Williamsport for the LLBWS. They punched their ticket to the LLBWS last week with a 7-3 win over Maryland the region championship game.

Braintree team falls in first game of Little League World Series
Advertisement Every television screen was tuned to the ESPN broadcast, the game commentary barely audible over the chants and excited chatter. In the days leading up to the game, SouthSide Tavern had introduced Every table at the tavern had been reserved in advance, with placards marking spots for families and friends. 'We've been getting calls nonstop since last week,' said Stephen Dedalonis, 20, a Braintree native and host and food runner at the tavern. At one table, Emily Antonowicz and her 10-year-old son, Andrew, watched intently. Andrew, a player for another Braintree American team, clutched his cap to his head as he sat among friends. Advertisement 'A bit nervous,' he admitted when asked how he was feeling, adding that he hopes to be on a World Series team one day. 'This is amazing that they've made it this far, and we're so proud of them no matter what happens,' his mom said. Nearby, Chrissy Joseph was cheering on the team, but also one person in particular — her brother, Frank Fasoli, the team's general manager. Joseph had just talked to her brother the day before. 'He said, 'Chrissy, the boys are just having the time of their life,'' she said, adding that in their downtime they were playing pickup basketball with other teams and living in the moment. When she asked him how he was feeling, he replied 'We're underdogs, but we've always come through,' he told her. 'These boys are really good and they love what they do,' she said. 'They're playing because it's their passion, not because they're forced to.' Joseph's daughter, 14-year-old, Brooke Costelo, said, 'It's really cool to have a personal connection with the team that everyone knows about. I can't wait to see how much more they accomplish.' But as the game came to a close, the mood grew more somber. Braintree American fell to South Carolina in a shutout that shortened the game to just four innings under the mercy rule. The loss puts the team in the tournament's elimination bracket, where they'll have another chance to keep their run alive in a redemption game on Saturday. For fans like Antonowicz, the loss was just a setback. Advertisement 'In the words of Bill Belichick, we're on to Saturday,' she said with a tight smile after the final out. Joseph said she's confident the players can rebound. 'Keep your head up,' she urged the boys.
