‘Modi's mind is cool, but blood runs hot… sindoor flows in my veins': In Bikaner, PM's message to Pakistan
He said that India's response is a 'new form of justice', that there will be no trade or talks with Pakistan now. Importantly, the PM said that the recent developments have made three things clear: that there will be a befitting reply for each terror attack, that India will not be scared by threats of an atom bomb, and that India will view Pakistan's 'state and non-state actors' as one.
Addressing a rally in Bikaner, parts of which were attacked by Pakistan recently, the PM said, 'This brave land of Rajasthan teaches us that there is nothing bigger than the country or its people. On April 22, terrorists asked the religion (of Pahagam victims) and destroyed the sindoor of our sisters. Those bullets were fired in Pahalgam but they pierced the chests of 140 crore people of the country. After that, every citizen of the country united and took a pledge that we will destroy the terrorists and give them a punishment beyond imagination.'
'Today, with your blessings and with the valour of the country's armed forces, we have lived up to that promise. Our government gave a free hand to all three forces. And the three armies together created such a chakravyuh (web) that Pakistan was forced to kneel,' the PM said.
'Saathiyon, 22 tareek ke jawab mein, humne 22 minute mein aatankiyon ke 9 sabse bade thikane tabah kar diye. Duniya ne aur desh ke dushmano ne bhi dekh liya, ki jab sindoor baarood ban jata hai toh nateeja kya hota hai. (Friends, in response to the attack on April 22, we destroyed the nine biggest terrorist hideouts in 22 minutes. The world and the enemies of the country saw what happens when vermilion turns into gunpowder),' the PM said.
'Pakistan can never win a direct war with India. Whenever there is a direct war, Pakistan has to suffer a humiliating defeat. That is why Pakistan has made terrorism its weapon of war. Since Independence, this has been happening for several decades,' he said.
'Pakistan used to spread terror, kill innocent people, create an atmosphere of fear in India. But Pakistan forgot one thing. Ab, Maa Bharti ka sevak Modi yahan seena taan kar khada hai. Modi ka dimag thanda hai, thanda rehta hai, lekin Modi ka lahu garam hota hai. Aur ab toh, Modi ki nason mein, lahu nahi, garam sindoor beh raha hai. (Now, Mother India's servant Modi is standing here with his head held high. Modi's mind is cool, it stays cool, but Modi's blood is hot. And now, not blood, but hot vermilion is flowing in Modi's veins),' he said.
He said this is not a game of vengeance, but 'a new form of justice'. 'This is Operation Sindoor. This is not just aakrosh (outrage), ye samagra Bharat ka raudra roop hai, ye Bharat ka naya swaroop hai (This is the fierce form of entire India, this is the new face of India).'
Referring to the 2019 Balakot strikes by India, he said, 'Pehle ghar mein ghus kar kiya tha vaar, ab seedha seene par kiya prahaar hai. Aatank ka phan kuchalne ki yahi reeti hai yahi neeti hai, yehi Bharat hai, naya bharat hai. (First, we attacked them inside their homes, and now, we have directly attacked them on the chest. This is the way to crush terrorism; this is the policy. This is Bharat, this is the new Bharat).'
He said that Operation Sindoor settled three principles to tackle terrorism: 'If there is a terrorist attack on Bharat, there will be a befitting reply. The time and method will be decided by our armed forces. And the shartein (terms and conditions) will be ours too.'
'Doosra, atom bomb ki geedad bhapkiyon se Bharat darne wala nahi hai (Second, Bharat will not be scared by the threats of an atom bomb),' he said.
Third, he said, India will not view 'aatank ke aakaon aur aatank ki sarparast sarkar' (the masters of terror and the government that patronises terror) differently. 'They will be considered as one. Pakistan's game of state and non-state actors will not work anymore.'
'Today, from the land of Rajasthan, I would like to humbly tell the people of my country, the Tiranga yatra which is taking place in every corner of the country, mein deshavaasiyon se kahata hoon, jo sindoor mitaane nikale the, unhe mitti mein milaya hai (I tell my countrymen that those who set out to wipe off the vermilion, have been turned to dust),' the PM said.
'Those who used to bleed Hindustan have paid the price for every drop. Those who used to think that Bharat will stay quiet are now hiding inside their homes. Those who used to take ghamand (pride) on their weapons, today they are buried under a pile of rubble,' Modi said.
He said that India has made it very clear that Pakistan will have to pay a heavy price for every terror attack. And this cost will be paid by the Pakistani army and its economy.'
The PM said that he arrived at Bikaner via the Nal airport here, which was targeted by Pakistan, 'but they couldn't cause even the slightest damage'. 'But across the border, there is Pakistan's Rahim Yar Khan airbase. We don't know when it will reopen. It is in the ICU. Indian Army's accurate attacks have destroyed this airbase,' he said.
The PM said that there will be no trade or talks with Pakistan. 'If there's a talk, it will only be on Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. And if Pakistan continues to export terrorists, then it will be deprived of every penny. Pakistan will not get water that is India's right. Playing with the blood of Indians will prove costly to Pakistan. This is Bharat's resolve, and no power in the world can sway us away from this resolve,' he said, adding that both security and prosperity are necessary for a viksit (developed) Bharat.
'This is possible only when each corner of Bharat is strong.'
He said that it is a coincidence that five years ago, when India conducted airstrikes in Balakot, his first public rally back then was in Rajasthan too.
He recalled his words in Churu – uttered in February 2019 – saying, 'Saugandh mujhe is mitti ki, main desh nahi mitne dunga, main desh nahi jhukne dunga. (I swear on this soil, I won't let the nation fade or bow down).'
He added that seven Indian delegation comprising MPs from all parties are going across the world 'to show the real face of Pakistan to the world'.

Opposition meet to pick V-P candidate remains inconclusive, another round of parleys on August 19
The meeting of INDIA bloc leaders on Monday (August 18, 2025) at Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge's official residence to decide the Opposition candidate for the Vice-President's post remained inconclusive. 'A meeting of leaders of all Opposition parties in Parliament will be held at 12:30 PM tomorrow Tuesday Aug 19th at 10, Rajaji Marg,' Congress communications chief Jairam Ramesh said in a post on X. The Opposition bloc is likely to announce its choice on Tuesday (August 19, 2025). According to sources, the Congress president, who is also the Leader of the Opposition (LoP) in the Rajya Sabha, was committed to fielding a candidate and not conceding without a contest. On Sunday night, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh had reached out to the leaders of some Opposition parties, including Mr. Kharge for unanimously electing the new Vice-President. Sources said the Opposition wants to field a non-political face who has national standing and stature for the second-highest constitutional position in the country. The vice-presidential election, necessitated by the sudden resignation of incumbent Jagdeep Dhankhar last month, is scheduled for September 9. The last date for filing nominations is August 21. Though no name was finalised, several possible candidates were considered. According to sources, on DMK's suggestion, Indian scientist Mylswamy Annadurai, who during his tenure at ISRO worked on two of the major missions of ISRO, namely Chandrayaan-1 and Mangalyaan, was also discussed. The Trinamool Congress, however, was of the opinion that it would be 'reactive' to field another Tamilian in response to the NDA's vice-presidential candidate — Maharashtra Governor C.P. Radhakrishnan. Mr. Annadurai hails from the same Kongu region as Mr. Radhakrishnan. His scientific and apolitical background is an advantage. If a consensus on Mr. Annadurai's candidature emerges within the Opposition ranks and if he agrees to contest, it will help the DMK and its allies politically as they will not be seen as 'anti-Tamil' in opposing Mr Radhakrishnan. Another name that is said to have been discussed is Tushar Gandhi, the great-grandson of Mahatma Gandhi, sources claimed. There were also some reservations among RJD and SP leaders about contesting the vice-presidential polls since the numbers are loaded in favour of the NDA. They argued that since the Opposition does not have the requisite numbers, it should let this election go in view of the upcoming Bihar polls, which they argued needs more attention. The SP also argued that the Opposition should focus its energy on its campaign against the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. 'So far, we have presented a united front, and any cross voting in VP's election would send a wrong message,' a senior SP leader opined. (With inputs from B. Kolappan)

Govt should give power subsidy only to Vidarbha, Marathwada: FIA
Nagpur: The Federations of Industries Associations (FIA), an umbrella organization of industrial bodies across Vidarbha, has demanded that state govt should withdraw the power subsidy scheme for rest of Maharashtra, and once again extend the benefit exclusively to industrial units in Vidarbha and Marathwada. This will restore the scheme to its original form. The scheme was introduced in 2016 when it was available exclusively for industries in the two regions. Later, it was discontinued for two years during the MVA regime, and then restarted in 2022, with all the D-Plus talukas in the state covered, said FIA's past president Kiran Paturkar. FIA has demanded that this has thinly spread the subsidy amount. As against Rs1,100 crore received by Vidarbha earlier, now only Rs500 crore is paid, claims the association. The association has demanded that instead of D-Plus talukas across the state, the power subsidy should be extended to all talukas irrespective of the classification in Vidarbha and Marathwada. The talukas are classified from A to D on the basis of development. The whole idea of providing the subsidy was to boost industries in backward regions like Vidarbha and Marathwada. If the incentive is also available in richer regions like West Maharashtra why would an industrial unit be attracted to a region like Vidarbha, said Paresh Raja, president of FIA. The FIA will be taking up the issue with the state govt soon, he said. Raja said the state's ease of doing business policy at present focuses mainly on the large industries. There need to be steps for MSMEs too. Paturkar said even the land allotment mechanism for small and mid-sized industries needs changes, as applicants often face hassles in the online portal. BOX State forms panel on tariffs The state govt has formed a committee to review the impact of US tariff hike and suggest measure to increase exports. It would specially study the impact on state's economy and come up with mid and long term solutions. The committee would also take up a review of aspects like de-criminalisation, self-certification of low risk non-hazardous, non-polluting industries, and ease of doing business. A government resolution (GR) issued in this regard says that the tariff hike would hamper the competitiveness of the Indian industry. As much as 18% of India's exports are to the US, which comes to 2.2% of the GDP. The 14-member committee will work on measures like exploring new markets, region-specific incentives and come up with a flexible approach against the protectionist stance of the US govt, says the GR. The committee will headed by Apurva Chandra, former IAS officer and principal advisor to ministry of defence. The industries will be represented by Gems and Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC), CII, FICCI, FIEO as well as other bodies like Dalit Indian Chamber of Commerce (DICC), and Engineering Export Promotion Council of India (EEPC). The panel will also work on special schemes focusing on small industries. Stay updated with the latest local news from your city on Times of India (TOI). Neso, Aasu seek sealing of border & deportation of illegal B'deshis
Guwahati: The North East Students' Organisation (Neso) and its constituent organisations, including the All Assam Students' Union (Aasu), on Monday staged a protest across the region demanding the total sealing of the India-Bangladesh border and the deportation of all illegal Bangladeshis, irrespective of religion, from the region. Neso, in its memorandum to PM Modi, said while awaiting the govt of India to come out with a comprehensive policy to combat the problem of influx, the initiatives and policies taken up by the affected people and states such as Meghalaya, Tripura, and Manipur (Manipur Accord), who are facing immense pressure from illegal immigrants, should be noted and encouraged by providing logistic and other supports, including financial implications required for its effective implementation. "The govt of India must do everything in its power to bring lasting peace to the strife-torn state of Manipur," it added."Neso expresses serious concern and dissatisfaction with the non-implementation of the Assam Accord (1985) even after a gap of 40 years to review the various clauses of the Accord. We demand the implementation of the Assam Accord in letter and spirit within a time frame," the memorandum read. The Aasu in Guwahati, Naga Students' Federation in Kohima, Khasi Students' Union in Shillong, Mizo Zirlai Pawl in Aizawl, All Manipur Students' Union in Imphal, and Tripura Students' Federation (TSF) in Agartala participated in the protests. After the protests, the respective student organisations sent Neso's memorandum to their state chief ministers, the Prime Minister, and the home minister. AASU President Utpal Sharma, general secretary Samiran Phukan, and chief advisor of Aasu and Neso Samujjal Bhattacharjya participated in the protest in Guwahati. In a meeting held after the protest, they stated that Assam is not a pasture for illegal Bangladeshis. "Assam is not a dumping ground for illegal Bangladeshis. For 46 years since the Assam agitation, the people of Assam have been struggling to protect the identity of the indigenous people from the influx of illegal Bangladeshis. The failure to implement the Assam Accord for 40 years has brought a crisis to Assam," Aasu said in a statement. The students' body said the people of Assam and the student organisations seek a permanent solution to the illegal Bangladeshi issue. Thus, the students' body said every clause of the Assam Accord must be implemented within a specified time frame. "The India-Bangladesh border must be sealed, and shoot-at-sight orders should be issued at the border," Aasu said. "Based on Clause 6 of the Assam Accord, all recommendations of the Biplab Kumar Sharma Committee's report must be implemented to provide constitutional safeguards to the indigenous people of Assam. Assam must be excluded from the purview of CAA. Special operations must be conducted to eradicate illegal Bangladeshis and fundamentalists in Assam," they demanded.
