Inter Milan star stuck in Iran amid Israel conflict and will miss Club World Cup

Mehdi Taremi played for Iran on Tuesday in a World Cup qualifier but the Inter Milan forward is now grounded in Tehran with air space closed as conflict with Israel escalates Mehdi Taremi has been unable to join his Inter Milan team-mates for the Club World Cup having been grounded in Iran, with air space closed during the escalating conflict with Israel. The forward scored for Iran in their 3-0 World Cup qualifier against North Korea in Tehran on Tuesday night and was meant to join his club in Los Angeles on Saturday ahead of their Group E opener against Monterrey, which kicks off at 2am BST on Wednesday. ‌ But he is stranded in his home nation and Italian media reports say the 32-year-old is now no longer expected to link up with Inter for the FIFA tournament - regardless of whether Iranian air space reopens. ‌ Flights have been grounded since Israel launched a military operation on Thursday targeting nuclear sites and several Iranian commanders. They have since retaliated, targeting Tel Aviv, with dozens of people reported dead. Taremi signed for Inter from Porto last year and made 26 appearances in Serie A this season, though only seven of those were starts as the Milan side finished second behind Napoli. He also played a dozen times in their Champions League run but was an unused substitute for their 5-0 humbling at the hands of Paris Saint Germain in the final. Inter also face Japanese club Urawa Red Diamonds and South African giants River Plate in the group stage of the new and controversial 32-team tournament which runs until July 14. The Serie A side are joined by domestic rivals and 10 other European sides, with the Premier League represented by Chelsea and Manchester City. ‌ Despite a £775m prize fund on offer, with the winners set to bank close to £100m for seven games of work, many players have complained about having to participate in a tournament scheduled for what is typically their brief off-season. The tournament began at Miami's Hard Rock Stadium on Saturday night with Lionel Messi's Inter Miami playing out an insipid scoreless draw against Al Ahly.

Inter Milan make new Rasmus Hojlund plan due to Manchester United's asking price

Inter Milan cannot meet Manchester United's asking price for Rasmus Hojlund but are keen on striking a loan deal for the misfiring striker. The 22-year-old had a really difficult season with the Red Devils last time round, scoring just four goals in 32 Premier League outings. The Dane netted 10 times in 52 appearances across all competitions, with six of those coming on United's run to the Europa League final. In total he has scored 26 times in 95 games since signing from Atalanta for an initial £64m in the summer of 2023. With Manchester United struggling badly for any kind of form under Ruben Amorim, almost none of their players have managed to shine so Hojlund is not alone, but in two seasons in the Premier League he certainly has not convinced that he can be a leading striker in the English top flight. After such a lean run in the Premier League his confidence now appears to be extremely low and a move this summer looks likely, if a deal can be done. Hojlund has a good reputation in Italy after an impressive 2022-23 season with Atlanta, which earned him his move to Old Trafford. Inter Milan are keen on bringing him back to Serie A, with La Gazzetta dello Sport reporting that he is their number one target as they look for a striker to compete with Marcus Thuram and Lautaro Martinez. However, Manchester United have set an asking price of €45m (£38m) for the Denmark international and that is likely to be out of Inter's reach. As a result, the report from Gazzetta suggests the Nerazzurri will look to negotiate a loan deal with an option or obligation to buy next summer. Whether Manchester United will accept the deal is yet to be seen, but they are unlikely to be swamped with offers of £38m or more for the striker, so it may well prove to be the best option. Speaking earlier this month Hojlund said he expected to still be at Old Trafford next season, telling Norwegian outlet Ekstra Bladet: 'I have a contract until 2030, so I expect to play for Manchester United. More Trending 'I'm looking forward to going on a summer vacation, and then I'm fully dedicated to the project that's underway.' Inter may not want to meet Hojlund's asking price this summer, but they are also reportedly bringing in another forward in Parma's Ange-Yoan Bonny. The 21-year-old is set to join for around £17m having worked under Chivu at Parma, but would be seen as less of an immediate first team prospect as Hojlund. The France Under-21 international has already made 117 appearances for Parma, but most of those came in Serie B, with just one season in Serie A under his belt, during which he scored six goals. Ex-Liverpool star Loris Karius' glamorous TV presenter wife Diletta Leotta dazzles on the opening night of the Club World Cup in Miami

Loris Karius' TV presenter wife Diletta Leotta was spotted attending the opening game of the 2025 Club World Cup. The tournament got underway this weekend for the first time in its new format, with Lionel Messi 's Inter Miami being held to a draw on home soil by Egyptian side Al-Ahly. While the opener ultimately ended goalless, the various celebrities in attendance were treated to an action-packed game that was almost punctuated by a last-second goal from the Argentinian. One of those watching on was Leotta, who shared a series of snaps from the game to her nine million followers on Instagram. Leotta, famed in her native Italy for her work covering Serie A on DAZN, could also be seen interviewing FIFA president Gianni Infantino prior to the game. The 33-year-old has two children with former Premier League goalkeeper Karius, and the pair tied the knot in a private ceremony in Sicily last year. Karius opted for a tuxedo with a white jacket, whilst his wife donned a Atelier Eme veil emblazoned with the phrase 'All I ever wanted'. The pair exchanged vows in front of a stunning view of the Tyrrhenian Sea alongside their daughter Aria. Leotta previously implored then-Newcastle goalkeeper Karius to consider her homeland as his next career destination so he could be closer to her and their daughter, and even suggested a potential club for him to join. 'Loris has people at his side who work for him,' she told Italian newspaper Tuttosport in 2024. 'I hope he makes the best decision for his career. 'I live in Milan, so let's say being close to Milan would be ideal for us. 'I always tell him, players who come to Serie A then fall in love with Italy and often stay there forever. I think that could happen to him too. '[He should join] Monza or any other team in Italy. I would be happy if he came to Italy to play near his family. 'Newcastle is very inconvenient because there are no direct flights. Neither about Paris nor about Amsterdam.' Despite her hopes, a move to the Mediterranean was ultimately not forthcoming for Karius, and he instead returned to Germany after a stint as a free agent to join second-tier Schalke. Initially arriving on a short-term deal in January, Karius made four league appearances for the club before being ruled out for the remainder of the campaign through injury. The 31-year-old subsequently signed a two-year contract extension earlier this week, keeping him at the club until 2027.
