Many banks including SBI HDFC Bank and Kotak Mahindra Bank have revised their credit card rules, which will come into effect in July 2025. These include the discontinuation of free air accident insurance on certain SBI cards, the introduction of new transaction fees and reward point limits by HDFC Bank, and the gradual replacement of the Myntra Kotak Credit Card with the Kotak League Credit Card. The updated terms of these credit cards should be reviewed by cardholders to prevent any loss.SBI Card has announced a series of important changes for its credit cardholders, which will take effect from July 15, 2025. The changes range from calculation of minimum due payment, payment settlement order, and discontinuation of complimentary insurance for air accidents on select SBI credit cards.SBI Card will discontinue its complimentary air accident insurance coverage of Rs 1 crore, which is currently offered on select premium SBI credit cards, effective July 15, 2025. This change applies to the following cards: SBI Card Elite, SBI Card Miles Elite, and SBI Card Miles Prime. Customers using these variants of credit cards will no longer be eligible for this benefit after the specified date.The complimentary air accident insurance coverage of Rs 50 lakh on SBI Card Prime and SBI Card Pulse will also be discontinued, effective July 15, 2025. Cardholders of these variants will no longer receive this insurance benefit from the specified date onwards, as per the information available on SBI's website.HDFC Bank is revising its credit card charges starting July 1, 2025, to enhance transparency and align with spending patterns. Some of the changes include a 1% fee capped at Rs 4,999/month, which will apply to online skill-based gaming, wallet loading (e.g., PayTM, Mobikwik), and utility bill payments exceeding Rs 50,000/month for consumer cards (Rs 75,000 for business cards). No reward points will be awarded on gaming spends. Insurance spends remain exempt from charges but will have monthly reward point caps: 10,000 for Infinia, 5,000 for Diners Black, and 2,000 for most other cards. Marriott Bonvoy cards are not subject to this cap among other changes.Kotak Mahindra Bank has announced the discontinuation of the Myntra Kotak Credit Card, effective July 10, 2025. As part of this transition, all existing Myntra Kotak Credit Card users will be migrated to the Kotak League Credit Card. Cardholders are advised to review the features and benefits of the new card and take note of any changes in terms and rewards that may apply post-migration.

Tamil Nadu sanctions record payout of Rs 1,137 crore to settle transport staff dues
CHENNAI: In the largest one-time sanction for the transport sector in recent years, the Tamil Nadu govt on Monday released Rs 1,137.97 crore to settle long-pending terminal benefits of retired, voluntarily retired and deceased employees of all State Transport Undertakings (STUs). According to the order, the sanctioned sum will be distributed across the eight transport corporations including Metropolitan Transport Corporation (Rs 157.81 crore), and State Express Transport Corporation (Rs 54.41 crore). The sanction covers dues accumulated between July 2023 and April 2024. The transport department had originally sought Rs 2,450.83 crore to clear dues up to Jan 2025, but the govt has now advanced a significant portion to relieve the financial burden on former employees and their families. Alumnus donates 30,000 sq ft land worth more than Rs 1crore to TN govt school
Govintharaju Ponnusamy THANJAVUR: An NRI octogenarian alumnus of a govt higher secondary school in a village near Thanjavur has donated 30,000 sqft of his land worth more than Rs 1crore for the expansion of the school, where he studied from 1948 to 1953. The donor, Govintharaju Ponnusamy, 83, is a native of Thirumangalakottai in Orathanadu block of Thanjavur district and is a citizen of Singapore. He studied at the Govt Primary School in Keelaiyur in Thirumangalakottai. 'Though I didn't study beyond Class VI, I wanted to contribute to education. I wanted the children in my village to study well,' said Govintharaju, who contributes to various charities. After his primary education, Govintharaju moved to Singapore in the erstwhile Integrated Malaysia to join his father in his spice business. He settled there with his family and received Singapore citizenship after its independence. After experiencing prosperity in business for decades, Govintharaju visited his hometown a few years ago and got to know about his school, which is now a higher secondary institution. Once a major tourist draw, Bird Park sees dip in visitors & revenue
Chandigarh: Conceptualised and built with the aim of boosting tourism in Chandigarh, the Bird Park located in the city's lush green northern fringe is seeing a gradual dip in tourist flow. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now It was brought to life not so long ago in Nov 2021 by the Chandigarh administration. The UT administration had left no stone unturned to woo visitors, equipping the park with the necessary facilities and other attractions. No wonder, it turned out to be a popular tourist draw then. A senior UT official said, "Earlier, a large number of visitors from Chandigarh Tricity used to visit the park. But later their number dwindled, and tourists from outside the Tricity started thronging the park. Though the park still gets visitors, and the craze is still there, it's not like what it was when it first opened." Records available with the Chandigarh administration show that from its inception till March 2023, a total of 5,16,860 visitors visited the Bird Park. However, there was a dip in tourist flow after that. In 2023-2024 financial year, the park saw 4,08,846 visitors. The number went down further in 2024-2025FY, with a total of 329,332 visitors. Naturally, revenue also saw a dip with every passing year. But it wasn't as much compared to the decline in the number of visitors. UT records show that from Nov 2021 till March 2023, the park authority earned a revenue of Rs 2.73 crore, while it came down to 2.63 crore in 2023-2024FY. The revenue went down further in 2024-2025FY, with the Chandigarh administration collecting Rs 2.60 crore during the period. So, from Nov 2021 till the end of the last financial year (March 2025), the authority earned over Rs 7.98 crore from the Bird Park. Students, who visit the Bird Park from time to time as part of their school trips, are also among them. The enclosures inside the Bird Park have been designed in such a way that the birds, apart from taking flight and nesting in the natural habitat, can stay at the aviary while visitors can walk past them. The structures enclose thousands of plants of varying canopies, which provide an ideal habitat, food, and shelter for the birds that can fly freely and breed.
