Dear Coleen
I'm 25 and need some advice on a close friendship, which I'm worried I've messed up for good. I've been friends with this girl since we were in year nine.
She was part of my friend group, but I was always attracted to her. All the boys were. At school, I never thought I had a chance with her, so never asked her out and was happy to stay friends.
Over the years, though, as we've grown up, we've become closer and I'd say she was one of my best mates. My problem is, a couple of weeks ago we went out together and for some mad reason, I admitted to her that I'd always fancied her and would love it if we were to be more than friends.
It didn't go well. She was caught so off-guard and looked embarrassed. She said, 'Is this a joke? Are you crazy?' and the night was very weird after that.
We haven't been in touch since, which is unusual, as we're on Snapchat nearly every day.
What do I do? I'm gutted she's not into anything romantic, but her friendship really is more important to me. Can we still be friends?

I think you have to ask her that question. Tell her what you've told me – and although you're gutted that she's not interested in any-thing romantic, your friendship means more to you than anything else, and explain you hope you can still be mates.
She might say no because it's changed things for her and it feels awkward or maybe she'll ask for some space until it feels less awkward! Or she might make a joke of it and never mention it again.
However, it's important that you're honest with yourself too – is it really her friendship you're missing or are you hoping that she'll change her mind at some point?
Crossing over that friendship line can really change things. For example, she might not feel as comfortable telling you things or she'll feel weird about confiding in you about a guy she's met and be worried it'll hurt you. How would you deal with it if she started dating for example?
I think you should start by having a conversation with her and if you feel a little embarrassed, then get the ball rolling with a message, but just don't go back into the friendship hoping you might still have a chance because you risk getting hurt. Good luck.

In upcoming scenes, Elaine puts on a brave face as George's best mate Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden) tries to convince him that he should give her a second chance. After all, he did kiss Cindy last year! With Phil's words of wisdom ringing in his ears, George tells his wife that he's prepared to forgive her, but an enraged Elaine can't believe that he won't take responsibility for his part in the break-up and rejects him. Decision to pull cops from duty over Tallia Storm photo 'sparked fury among colleagues'
The decision to permanently withdraw Mr Jones and Mr Tunnock sent "shockwaves" through the force, a tribunal has heard. A Police Scotland inspector has said the decision to permanently withdraw two firearm officers after they posed for a photo with a pop singer has sent "shockwaves" through the force. On June 13, Inspector Andrew Miller told the Edinburgh Employment Tribunal that the force's reaction to the incident was "disproportionate" and left colleagues furious, reports Edinburgh Live. Firearms officers Steven Jones and Greg Tunnock were withdrawn from the firearms unit after they were filmed taking pictures with Scottish singer Tallia Storm on the job. They argued that the incident was branded "misogynistic" by bosses, claiming the "knee-jerk" withdrawal decision was made to mitigate bad publicity. Speaking to the tribunal on Friday, Mr Miller admitted he believed the officers ' treatment "may not be proportionate to the circumstances." Mr Miller said: "I didn't believe their actions were misogynistic. I was aware it could be interpreted as misogynistic [by the public]. I didn't believe that was the case, but it could be interpreted that way by others." He later stated: "We had to be aware how the public would view this." Miller, who's spent nearly three decades in the job, said he had "never seen" a "critical decision taken like this" so quickly in his 27 years of police service. The inspector said the decision to permanently withdraw Mr Jones and Mr Tunnock sent "shockwaves" through the force and that " officers were enraged at the action" taken against their colleagues. Mr Miller added: "If we take a step back, it was ultimately a photograph" and he "had concerns the punishment may not be proportionate to the circumstances". The tribunal also heard reference to the Rhona Malone case, where the former firearms officer was awarded almost £1 million in 2019 after being victimised on the basis of sex by Police Scotland. Mr Miller claimed Police Scotland had done a lot of combat misogyny since 2019 but he was aware senior management "still talk" about the case. The inspector added: "I felt the outcome from the ACC was made too quick and should have followed, in my experience, normal process", such as the conclusion of an investigation by the Professional Standards Department (PSD). Mr Tunnock earlier told the hearing that Insp Miller warned him "the last thing the firearms unit needs is another misogyny case". However, under questioning from Police Scotland's lawyer, Mr Gibson, Mr Miller agreed with assistant chief constable Ritchie's assertion on June 12 that Ms Storm's gender was irrelevant to the withdrawal decision. He also said his concerns about management's perception of misogyny were "unfounded" given that the officers were struck off for "poor judgement, decision-making, and situational awareness". Mr Miller also criticised the officers for their decision-making, saying: "There was acknowledgement [from the officers] that this wasn't the best thing they'd ever done. They need to have a degree of professional awareness that they were being filmed. It just doesn't look good." The proceedings are presided over by Employment Judge Amanda Jones. The five-day hearing began on Monday, June 9 and was scheduled to conclude on Friday, June 13.

Lisa reassures Betsy as past character's Corrie return confuses everything
Betsy Swain attempted to do some investigating (Picture: ITV) Betsy Swain (Sydney Martin) was on a mission in tonight's Coronation Street as she tried to find answers regarding the life her mum lived before she died. Lisa Swain's (Vicky Myers) ex-partner Becky was also a copper, but she apparently died after being hit by a car. This week, Lisa told Carla Connor (Alison King) more about Becky's life as a police officer. She said that, before her death, Becky was being investigated by the anti-corruption unit, and Lisa was keen to keep that information from her daughter. Lisa emotionally opened up about how she and Becky had fought over the allegations the day Becky was killed, and though the investigation was dropped, she didn't get the funeral she deserved. Betsy and Lauren headed to the station (Picture: ITV) Lisa attempted to talk to Betsy about her mum, but when Betsy insisted that she hadn't read the letter because she wasn't interested in knowing who her sperm donor was, Lisa decided to keep quiet about what the letter was really about. Unfortunately, Betsy wasn't being entirely honest either, as she later revealed to Lauren Bolton (Cait Fitton) that she knew exactly what the letter was about. She confessed that she was convinced Becky's hit and run had been a coverup of some sort, and asked Lauren for her help in getting to the bottom of things. The young man is behind bars after killing his brother Mason (Luca Toolan), but it's also known that Logan and other sibling Matty were involved in Becky's death. The smug character told her that it would cost her, and Betsy was happy to pay him from her trust fund. Logan span a story to Betsy but laughed at the end, revealing it was just a massive wind up.
