Kia EV5 GT Spotted Testing In Korea
If Hyundai has its N performance vehicle family, Kia answers with its GT badge, especially on its burgeoning line of electric vehicles. The Korean marque already offers the EV6 GT and EV9 GT, both topping their respective ranges with outstanding performance. Even the US-bound Kia EV3 is rumored to receive a high-performance GT version.
We also know that the EV5, which sits right below the EV6, is getting the GT treatment. While its design may have been leaked in China last year, a prototype has already been spotted on the road, thanks to Shorts Car on Instagram, signaling an imminent official debut.
Even through the camo, there are clues. The EV5 GT prototype wears a set of sporty alloy wheels that bear a strong resemblance to those on the EV6 GT. Yellow brake calipers peek through the spokes, hinting at upgraded stopping power, while a wider stance and lower ride height suggest revised suspension tuning and stickier rubber underneath. In typical GT fashion, the visual changes are purposeful, not just cosmetic.
Stylistically, the EV5 GT will borrow heavily from Kia's latest EV design playbook. Think EV6 and EV9, but with added aggression unique to the GT family. Unlike the EV6, the EV5 GT will have a boxy body, closely resembling the EV9.
Unlike China's EV5, the GT model is based on the global version, which means revisions aimed at broader markets. Chief among them is a redesigned center console, replacing the less conventional jump seat setup with a more premium, practical armrest.
Official details of what's under the EV5 GT's skin are still scarce, but the EV6 GT should set a benchmark at 576 hp and a 0-62 mph time of 3.5 seconds. It's unclear if the EV5 GT will have the same output, but a dual-motor, all-wheel-drive setup is almost certain at this point. Inside reports point to using an 82 kWh nickel-cobalt-manganese battery, with a projected range between 373 and 435 miles.
The Kia EV5 GT will be produced in China and Korea, so it's unlikely to reach the U.S. market, at least for now. If the automaker introduces it stateside, local production is expected in hopes of curbing the current tariffs imposed on imported vehicles and parts.

Kia EV Pickup: Everything We Know So Far About the New Electric Truck
If you're considering buying an electric vehicle, but you still need to haul things, there's a new Kia electric pickup truck coming to North America that you may want to wait for. While the plucky Kia Tasman truck released last year had a polarizing design, it was still considered a success. Now, Kia is celebrating by releasing a second pickup truck -- this time, an EV. Details are fairly slim right now. "Kia plans to introduce an EV pickup truck based on a new EV platform designed for both urban and outdoor use," the company said in April. "The vehicle will feature best-in-class interior and cargo space, a robust towing system, off-road capabilities and advanced infotainment and safety features." The inclusion of off-road capabilities would set the EV apart from the Hyundai Santa Fe, which is the only pickup truck that Kia or its sister company sells in the US. It'll be on a new EV platform, so it will also be set apart from the company's current EV offerings, like the Kia EV6. The infotainment will likely be similar to current Kia EVs and vehicles like the dual-display technology in the more recent Sportage SUV. Kia last week also showcased its more affordable EV sedan, with CNET on hand to see the latest 2026 Kia EV4. A Kia spokesperson told CNET in June that it has nothing new to reveal just yet on the Kia EV pickup truck. Will the Kia electric pickup truck be available in the US? Per the statement, Kia is expecting to sell roughly 90,000 of these new EV pickups per year, a lofty goal in a market where the Ford F-150 Lightning is barely hitting 30,000 units sold. By most accounts, it's an ambitious sales goal to hit for a vehicle that'll represent Kia's first attempt at appeasing the US truck buyer market. However, there is still room for optimism. "The models built on the eGMP line sold over 100,000 units in 2024," said Liz Najman, director of market insights at Recurrent, a company that offers independent insights on EV performance. "Moreover, like the EV6, Kia pickups will likely be made in the US, helping avoid costly tariffs that will drive up prices for consumers. It is likely that price will be a major factor for consumers in the coming years." Najman also said trucks were the two top-selling vehicles in 2024, so it's possible Kia can reach these sales goals, provided that the automaker can hit that sweet spot of competitive pricing and capability. "Electric vehicles are seeing strong sales numbers when they deliver on what customers want," she said, highlighting that with electric car sales, the Ford Mustang Mach-E and the Jeep Wrangler PHEV each sold over 50,000 units in 2024 and the Tesla Model 3 and the Model Y sold over 150,000 and 370,000 units, respectively.

Volkswagen Details 2026 Model Year Updates Ahead Of August Arrival
Volkswagen has announced all the updates for its 2026 lineup, with some 2026 models due to arrive in showrooms in August. Since most models were all-new or significantly refreshed over the last two years, the 2026 updates introduce a few refinements and additional equipment to the VW range. Let's take a closer look at what's new for 2026, starting with the brand's SUV range. The smallest and most affordable VW crossover underwent a comprehensive refresh for the 2025 model year, so for 2026, VW has elected only to add some more equipment. The Taos now gets standard rear-seat pretensioners, while a mid-model year change will see the introduction of upgraded 15-watt wireless charging. Range-topping SEL models now get an upgraded sound system with eight speakers. An all-new Tiguan was introduced for the 2025 model year, featuring a fresh look and a more tech-heavy interior than before. For 2026, the main change is the introduction of the SEL R-Line Turbo, which gets a more powerful 268-horsepower turbocharged engine, up from 201 hp in the other Tiguan models. VW has also updated its Travel Assist and assistant lane change systems; this applies to all trims. Very little has changed for VW's largest SUV models in the USA for 2026. Buyers going for the SE with Technology trim and above now get a factory-installed HomeLink mirror. The Peak Edition, SEL, and SEL Premium R-Line are the other trims benefitting from this change. VW has delayed some of its EV plans, but the ID.4 continues as the brand's sole electric SUV for the 2026 model year. S Plus trims will get a new HomeLink mirror, but VW says a mid-model-year update in 2026 is on the way, when new features will be added to the crossover. No information has been shared on the just yet, following its launch for the 2025 model year, but information on potential upgrades will be announced at a later stage. As with the Taos, rear-seat pretensioners will be standard on 2026 Jettas. The SE gets a standard sunroof, wireless charging is upgraded to 15 w, and SEL variants receive an upgraded eight-speaker sound system. After losing its manual gearbox and getting an updated infotainment system for 2025, there are no major changes for the 2026 Golf GTI. The Golf R underwent similar updates last year, but it's now available with a new exterior color called Graphite Grey Metallic. We expect the manufacturer to share pricing for 2026 models imminently, given that many of them will start arriving in August. The impact of tariffs could come into play here, as VW only promised to freeze pricing of new cars until the end of May. With that freeze now behind us, buyers may be seeing some unwelcome price hikes for 2026, and given how minimal the 2026 MY changes are, it may be a smart move to get a 2025 VW while you still can. Kia takes pre-orders of new battery-powered PV5
Kia Corporation began taking pre-orders for its new PV5 van/minibus range in South Korea, the first in a series of battery-powered purpose-built vehicles (PBVs) the company plans to launch over the next few years based on Hyundai Motor Group's E-GMP dedicated electric platform. The PV5 is a mid-sized PBV designed both for personal use, such as commuting and leisure activities, and also as a commercial van for last-mile logistics. It will initially be available in two main configurations, passenger and cargo. It uses Kia's new Flexible Body System, which features modular components allowing customized seating and cargo area layouts to closely meet user needs. It is powered by a 120 kW electric motor and a 71 kWh battery pack, giving it a maximum driving range of 358 km on a single charge. The van version, which has a spacious cargo area and low loading height, is available in three trims, compact, long and high roof, with prices starting at around US 19,000. Prices for the passenger model start at around US$ 22,000. "Kia takes pre-orders of new battery-powered PV5" was originally created and published by Just Auto, a GlobalData owned brand.
