Baldwin's 'malicious' prosecution lawsuit dismissed
Judge Casey Fitch dismissed Baldwin's complaint on Tuesday for lack of "significant action" in the case over the past 180 days.
The one-page order, made public on Wednesday, allows any party in the lawsuit to seek reinstatement within 30 days. Baldwin sued special prosecutor Kari Morrissey, District Attorney Mary Carmack-Altwies, Santa Fe County law enforcement investigators and other public officials in January, accusing them of malicious abuse of process, defamation and mishandling of evidence.
The lawsuit said the prosecutors and others had conspired to manufacture a criminal case against Baldwin for political and personal gain when they charged him with manslaughter in the fatal shooting of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins.
Baldwin's lawyer did not immediately respond to Reuters' request for comment on the dismissal of the suit.
The civil suit followed the abrupt dismissal of Baldwin's criminal case in July 2024 during his trial in the New Mexico capital.
The trial judge ruled then that the special prosecutor and sheriff's office had deliberately withheld evidence from Baldwin on the source of a live round that killed Hutchins and wounded director Joel Souza.
Hutchins' death, Hollywood's first on-set fatal shooting in nearly 30 years, shocked the movie industry and sparked calls for an overhaul of firearms safety on movie productions.
Morrissey has said prosecutors had long known the actor would file a retaliatory civil lawsuit.
The Ukrainian-born cinematographer died when Baldwin pointed a pistol at her while rehearsing, cocked the weapon and possibly pulled the trigger as they set up a camera shot on a movie set near Santa Fe, his lawyers said.
The gun, a reproduction 1873 single-action army revolver, fired a live round inadvertently loaded by Hannah Gutierrez, the movie's weapons handler. Gutierrez was convicted of involuntary manslaughter in March and sentenced to 18 months in jail.
Baldwin, also a producer on Rust, has always said live rounds should not have been allowed on set and he was not responsible for weapons safety.

Sony Reportedly Developing Animated R-Rated VENOM and SPIDER-WOMAN Spinoffs Following SPIDER-PUNK — GeekTyrant
Sony Pictures Animation is swinging deeper into the multiverse. Following the announcement of the Spider-Punk animated feature, now a new report says that Sony has even more Spider-Man spinoffs in the works, including a Spider-Woman project and a surprising R-rated animated Venom film. With Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse set to hit theaters on June 25, 2027, it looks like Sony's animated Spider-Verse universe is far from slowing down. According to industry scooper Daniel Richtman, 'There's also an animated Spider-Women and Venom films in development.' Backing that up, @MyTimeToShineHello recently posted that 'Sony is currently developing an animated Venom film.' This rumor was also reported over a year ago. Even more interesting, the animated Venom movie reportedly has Seth Rogen on board as a writer and producer. Rogen's involvement makes this project especially interesting as he's already got a strong track record with adult comic book adaptations like Preacher , The Boys , Invincible , and The Boys Presents: Diabolical . This Venom spinoff is reportedly aiming for an R-rating, breaking away from the PG-13 tone of the Tom Hardy-led trilogy. Rogen previously opened up about his hesitation to collaborate with major superhero studios, saying, 'Honestly, probably fear… It's mostly a fear of how would we plug into the system they have in place…we're control freaks!' He added, 'We're the producers of this. So we dictated the system.' This animated Venom film would follow Venom: The Last Dance (2024), which wrapped up Tom Hardy's run as Eddie Brock. First appearing in The Amazing Spider-Man #300 back in 1988, the Venom symbiote has had a long history of bonding with different hosts, including Eddie Brock, Mac Gargan, Flash Thompson, and Dylan Brock. As for the Spider-Woman spinoff, it's been rumored for a while now but still hasn't been officially confirmed by the studio. However, these latest developments suggest it might be gaining momentum behind the scenes. Sony hasn't revealed release dates or production timelines for either project yet, but with Spider-Punk already moving forward and Beyond the Spider-Verse on the calendar, the animated side of Sony's Marvel universe is expanding fast. More web-slinging adventures are definitely coming, and if these reports hold, fans are in for some seriously cool stories that push the Spider-Verse in bold new directions.

Long summer nights call for Harry Potter marathons, plus, of course, binge-watching the second season of Wednesday, and a good TV can make all the difference. We know TV upgrades usually happen toward the end of the year during Black Friday, but what if you didn't have to wait till then to score a solid deal? Right now, Walmart is offering the TCL 43-inch 4K Smart TV with Roku TV for $198 after an $80 discount. The price, especially with built-in Roku streaming, screams Black Friday, and we recommend jumping on it before Walmart decides to push it back up for good. See at Walmart For under $200, you're getting a decent size that delivers 4K Ultra HD resolution. Think HD but with four times the detail to make all multimedia content look lifelike. Color and contrast are just as realistic with the High Dynamic Range (HDR). Yellow won't bleed into orange, and pink stays pink without the neon. Darker scenes won't turn flat black, and shadows will be visible. This is also great for gamers who need to spot enemies when the sun sets because the night is dark and full of terrors. Sound gets an upgrade with built-in speakers, which are great for casual viewing. Those who want a more immersive experience can pair it easily with a soundbar. You also get access to 250+ free live TV channels, Roku Originals, as well as multiple streaming apps. No cable? No problem. The built-in digital TV tuner lets you watch free over-the-air channels in HD, too. Apple users can take advantage of AirPlay to cast content from their iPhone or iPad to the TV. Setting the whole thing up is fairly straightforward, with the menus being easy to navigate. Customize your homescreen as you like with the Roku remote that even includes direct shortcuts to popular apps like Netflix. And for when you can't be bothered to pick up the remote, the Roku mobile app comes to the rescue with features like voice search and private listening through your headphones. The TV also works with Siri, Alexa, and Google Assistant for even more convenience. Ports include four HDMI inputs (one with ARC for a soundbar). You also get dual-band Wi‑Fi 5 for wireless streaming and an Ethernet port if you prefer a wired connection. In short, the TCL 43-inch 4K Roku TV checks all the boxes for a budget-friendly upgrade. At under $200, you are getting a bunch of advanced features that you would normally pay much more for. See at Walmart

Persistent store manager helps police arrest armed robbery suspect in Worcester
A Worcester man has been arrested for armed robbery after allegedly threatening a liquor store clerk with a handgun. A persistent store manager is being credited for leading police to him. "I saw someone that looked a little rough walking and wandering," said Mohamed Abdel-Mawla, manager of a Worcester Price Chopper, who had just given an employee a ride to work when he saw suspicious activity at Boston Liquor store next door. "When he was walking into the liquor store, he had that bag in his right hand, and he pulled a gun and he opened the door with his left hand slowly," said Abdel-Mawla. Worcester police said 36-year-old Liam Chagnon was getting nips and cigarettes when he suddenly threatened the liquor store clerk with a handgun. A store manager who did not want to be identified spoke with WBZ-TV. "It was really bad because it was his first time he had ever saw a gun," the manager said. "He was scared, very scared." The clerk can be heard on surveillance saying, "I got you", and is seen nervously bagging the items while facing the gun. Mohamed Abdel-Mawla called 911 and then followed Chagnon as he made his way down the shopping plaza with a police dispatcher on the line. "He was walking by the stores, kind of walking fast, sweating, shaking a little bit here and there," Abdel-Mawla said. He was worried Chagnon would even go into Price Chopper armed, but the suspect, he says, made his way to Ted's Pizza where he was seen trying to open a locked door. Abdel-Mawla was still watching from a distance as the suspect walked a few minutes to an apartment complex where police arrived and made the arrest thanks to Abdel-Mawla's persistence. "I felt that I had to follow him to make sure that people are safe from this guy," he said. The liquor store manager says Chagnon is a regular customer who sometimes needs help, but this was different. She's grateful to Abdel-Mawla for taking such quick action. "He's very brave. It seems like he's helping everyone out here too, but I hope people will not be afraid," she said. Abdel-Mawla says he hopes he prevented something from happening. Fortunately, no one was injured, and Chagnon has been charged with armed robbery.
