Aston Villa vs Tottenham: Prediction, kick-off time, TV, live stream, team news, h2h results, odds
Aston Villa host Tottenham in one of two Friday night fixtures in the Premier League this week.
The game was originally scheduled to take place on Sunday, only for the top-flight to approve Spurs' request to bring it forward as a result of their progress into the Europa League final, giving them the same amount of time as Manchester United - who travel to face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge after their match was moved to avoid a clash with the Women's FA Cup final - to prepare for the Bilbao showpiece on May 21.
While Tottenham and United continue to endure truly disastrous domestic campaigns that see them sit 17th and 16th respectively with only two matches remaining, the rearranged games have a lot of significance for both Villa and Chelsea as they battle furiously for a top-five finish and Champions League qualification next season.
Villa withstood Jacob Ramsey's late red card to win 1-0 at Bournemouth last weekend thanks to Ollie Watkins' goal late in first-half stoppage time that saw him become the club's record Premier League goalscorer.
That win guaranteed Unai Emery's side at least a spot in the Conference League next season as they can no longer finish any lower than seventh, though they are still aiming for a second successive campaign at Europe's top table after making the Champions League quarter-finals this year, staying sixth and level on points with Chelsea in fifth after the latter lost 2-0 at Newcastle - who rose to third - and seventh-place Nottingham Forest were held at home by relegated Leicester.
All eyes are on the Europa League final for Tottenham as they finally seek to win a first major trophy since 2008 and first in Europe for 41 years that would take them back to the Champions League, but the case for Ange Postecoglou remaining as manager regardless of what happens in Bilbao is not being helped by their continued domestic struggles as a much-changed team were beaten 2-0 at home by Crystal Palace - their 20th league loss of the season.
Aston Villa vs Tottenham is scheduled for a 7:30pm BST kick-off on Friday May 16, 2025.
The match will take place at Villa Park in Aston, Birmingham.
TV channel: The match is being broadcast live in the UK on Sky Sports. Coverage begins on Sky Sports Premier League at 7pm BST.
Live stream: Sky Sports subscribers can also watch the action unfold live online via the Sky Go app.
Live blog: You won't miss anything with Standard Sport's live blog, featuring expert insight and analysis from chief football correspondent Dan Kilpatrick at Villa Park.
Midfielder Ramsey will serve a one-match ban for Villa after his two yellow cards against Bournemouth, while Manchester United loanee Marcus Rashford is out with a hamstring injury.
Youri Tielemans will be assessed after missing last weekend's win at the Vitality Stadium with a knock.
Postecoglou made eight changes against Palace with one eye firmly fixed on the Europa League final and seems unlikely to take any risks again on Friday night.
Captain Heung-min Son will get more minutes ahead of Bilbao after returning off the bench last weekend, though it seems very unlikely that Dejan Kulusevski will feature after a minor knee issue picked up against Palace that Spurs hope he will shake off for the final.
James Maddison, Lucas Bergvall and Radu Dragusin have all been lost for the season, along with young striker Dane Scarlett.
Villa have responded to their shocking FA Cup semi-final defeat by Crystal Palace at Wembley with back-to-back narrow league wins to boost their hopes of a top-five finish.
Emery's men are not firing on all cylinders, though are grinding out results to stay very much in the Champions League qualification mix, having done so brilliantly in that competition this season.
With only the cut-adrift and settled bottom three now below them, Spurs' league campaign has been totally miserable, yielding 20 losses from a season that has included 25 defeats in total.
Tottenham have only won once in the league since February, a 1-0 victory over Southampton in early April that relegated the rock-bottom Saints.
None of their fringe players have been stating a case for inclusion in the starting XI for Bilbao and it's not difficult to foresee another tough evening in store.
Aston Villa to win, 2-1.
Spurs thumped 10-man Villa 4-0 away last season after losing 2-1 at home and also thrashed them 4-1 in north London back in November.
The two sides also met in the FA Cup fourth round in February, with hosts Villa winning 2-1.
Aston Villa wins: 61
Tottenham wins: 79
Draws: 36
Aston Villa to win: 1/3
Tottenham to win: 6/1
Draw: 9/2

Fabrizio Romano Gives Bad News on Chelsea Pursuing Bundesliga Star With PSG Clause
Chelsea, Liverpool, and Manchester United are all keeping an eye on Hugo Ekitiké, with PSG set to profit if a move happens. The 22-year-old striker is expected to leave Eintracht Frankfurt soon, and PSG would receive 20 percent of the fee thanks to a sell-on clause in his deal. Advertisement Newcastle remain in the mix as well. They've been tracking Ekitiké since his time in Paris and view him as a possible long-term successor to Alexander Isak. According to CaughtOffside, another Premier League club is now showing interest. Manchester United are reportedly watching Ekitiké closely. Football Insider previously noted the club is monitoring his progress in Frankfurt as they weigh options for a new No. 9 this summer. Fabrizio Romano offers latest on Chelsea eyeing former PSG aceOn Monday, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano revealed the latest regarding Ekitiké and a potential move to Chelsea. Advertisement 'Hugo Ekitiké is really appreciated by Chelsea, he's a player they really like, but at the moment the negotiation is not closed at all because Chelsea were asking for information to Eintracht Frankfurt about the player and their answer was that his asking price is €100m,' Romano noted. 'So, that is the price tag from Eintracht, and at the moment that's too expensive for Chelsea. Let's see if the price changes or if Chelsea will decide to change their strategies later in the market.' This week, TEAMtalk reported that Premier League giants Chelsea are open to negotiating a deal, with a fee in the region of £65 million and £70 million expected to be enough to land the versatile forward this summer. Moreover, the club sees him as a dynamic addition alongside new signing Liam Delap, bringing both tactical flexibility and long-term upside.

Liverpool have "firm intention" to make NEW offer to contract rebel
Liverpool have "firm intention" to make NEW offer to contract rebel Diaz seeking pay rise The 28-year-old has given his club a contract predicament to solve. His terms expire in summer 2027 and if a new agreement isn't reached then his future is thought to be at risk. Liverpool would not fancy losing the winger for nothing - having paid £37.5m for him to Porto back in 2022. But a new deal on the terms Diaz requires appears to be far off. Advertisement The Colombian is reported to earn £55k per week - and would like a pay rise to around £150k per week in order to sign a new deal. So far there have been no indications that Richard Hughes is prepared to go that high - which is why Barca and Al-Nassr believe they have a chance at tempting Liverpool to sell. © IMAGO Liverpool to offer new contract for Diaz But according to the latest report in Diaz's native country, a renewed contract offer IS now expected. 'Liverpool's board would have the firm intention of making an offer to Luis Diaz's entourage,' reads a report in Redmas. Currently on international duty with Los Cafeteros, Diaz is scheduled to return to Liverpool once the current series of matches has concluded and he has taken his summer vacation. Advertisement 'The only certainty with Luis Diaz is that he will return to England to join Liverpool's preseason preparations,' the report continues. 'Coach Arne Slot is expected to count on him for next season.' Diaz proved himself as a problem solver for Slot last term - scoring 13 Premier League goals as the Reds won the title. He competed with Cody Gakpo for his left-wing berth and even filled in up front when Darwin Nunez and Diogo Jota were out of the picture.

Bayer Leverkusen make crucial transfer decision amid Jack Grealish interest
Bayer Leverkusen have rethought their stance on Manchester City's James McAtee as they hunt for a replacement for Liverpool-bound Florian Wirtz, as per a new report. Wirtz is nearing the completion of a sensational move to Anfield as negotiations progress to an advanced stage between Liverpool and Bayer Leverkusen, who have received an improved £113 million offer for the 22-year-old after turning down an opening bid from Merseyside. Advertisement Liverpool are understood to have agreed personal terms with Wirtz that will see the Germany international sign a long-term contract with the Premier League champions, who won the league title in Arne Slot's debut campaign in England last term. Leverkusen are poised to cashing in on Wirtz and are actively searching for a suitable replacement for the attacking midfielder, with a long-standing interest in Manchester City star and England U-21 international James McAtee. McAtee's Manchester City future was put in further doubt as the 22-year-old has chosen to captain his National Team at the U-21 European Championship and turned down a chance to represent his boyhood club at the FIFA Club World Cup. Advertisement The Salford-born star struggled for regular game time last season and despite a much greater look into the first-team after March, there is little evidence to suggest McAtee will realise his true potential under Pep Guardiola. With 12 months remaining on his current deal at the Etihad Stadium, McAtee wants a permanent transfer to start fresh and progress his career and Manchester City will be looking for a market fee for another product of their academy. Bayer Leverkusen have held a long-standing interest in McAtee and it is understood that the German outfit have held direct talks with Manchester City over the attacking midfielder, who is very attracted by the prospect of moving to Germany for next season. However, Bild are reporting that Leverkusen have withdrawn their interest in McAtee and are focusing on alternative targets as they prepare for life without Florian Wirtz and look to spend the incoming transfer fee for their best player, as relayed by Get Football News Germany. Advertisement Manchester City's €20 million valuation has put off Leverkusen, who are exited the race to sign McAtee, who has also attracted interest from Eintracht Frankfurt and VfB Stuttgart. It is worth noting that City are likely to prefer to sell McAtee to a foreign club. Cole Palmer joined Chelsea for £40 million in 2023 and has turned himself into one of the best forwards in Europe after two outstanding seasons in west London. City have frequently sold academy and bit-part players to their direct Premier League rivals and it has come back to bite them. Jack Grealish has also recently been linked with a move to Bayer Leverkusen and incoming manager Erik ten Hag is believed to have conveyed his desire of signing the 29-year-old England international to replace Wirtz, with Manchester City set to demand £50 million for their record signing this summer.
