Accountant charged with leaving children without proper care, supervision

An accountant pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court to charges of leaving his two biological children, one who is visually impaired and the other, with mild autism, without reasonable supervision.
SHAH ALAM - An accountant pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court here today to charges of leaving his two biological children, one who is visually impaired and the other, with mild autism, without reasonable supervision.
The 39-year-old man made the plea after the charges were read out before Judge Norazlin Othman.
On the first count, he is charged as the father of a 10-year-old boy, who has mild autism, to have left the child in a house in Elmina Valley, Section U16, Shah Alam, on March 15, without making any arrangements for his proper care and supervision.
He is also charged with committing a similar offence on his visually impaired 12-year-old daughter at the same place and date.
The charges were framed under Section 33(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001, which provides a fine not exceeding RM5,000 or imprisonment for up to two years or both upon conviction.
He was allowed bail of RM10,000 and ordered to report to a nearby police station once a month and surrender his passport to the court, which then set Sept 4 for mention.
Deputy public prosecutor Nurul Sofea Jaysal prosecuted, while lawyer Mohd Redzuan Mohamed Yusoff represented the accused. - BERNAMA

Toddler dies of suspected abuse in Sungai Buloh
KUALA LUMPUR: A two-year-old girl has died with bruises, swelling, and cuts on her body, believed to be the victim of abuse, in Paya Jaras, Sungai Buloh on Thursday. Sungai Buloh police chief Supt Mohd Hafis Muhammad Nor said police received a report on the child's death from a medical officer at Sungai Buloh Hospital at 12.45am. He said the toddler was brought to the hospital in an unconscious state by a couple, aged 27 and 28, who were also her adoptive parents. "The attending doctor reported receiving an unconscious child brought in by the couple. "Checks revealed bruises, swelling, and injuries all over the body, along with dried blood stains around the mouth and nose," he said in a statement last night. Mohd Hafis said that following the report, a team from the Sungai Buloh district police headquarters Criminal Investigation Division arrested the couple to assist in the investigation. "Initial checks found that both suspects had no prior criminal records. "A remand application will be submitted at the Shah Alam court tomorrow (today) to facilitate further investigation," he said. He said the child's body has been sent to the Sungai Buloh Hospital Forensic Department for a post-mortem and the case is being investigated under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001. Police probe links between hospital body and Gelang Patah shooting
JOHOR BAHRU: Police are investigating a possible connection between a fatal shooting at a petrol station in Gelang Patah and the discovery of a dead man at Sultanah Aminah Hospital. The victim, a 42-year-old man from Sungai Petani, Kedah, was found with multiple gunshot wounds and no identification documents. Johor police chief Datuk M Kumar stated that CCTV footage showed two individuals leaving the body in a dark-coloured car. Fingerprint checks revealed the victim had four prior criminal records. An autopsy confirmed he died from gunshot wounds to the chest and abdomen. Preliminary investigations suggest a robbery took place involving armed men, leading to an exchange of gunfire.
