Half of the squad in Madrid was first linked with Liverpool - or at least, it feels that way. The stars certainly were, with Kylian Mbappe, Jude Bellingham, Rodrygo Goes, Aurelian Tchouameni, Eder Militao, Eduardo Camavinga and likely others wanted at Anfield before ultimately choosing Real Madrid.
Last January, of course, there was communication between the two. Real Madrid wanted to sign Trent Alexander-Arnold, six months before his contract expired. They put up €20m, reportedly, but Liverpool said no.
Instead, the two did business at £10m ahead of the FIFA Club World Cup. It was a remarkable deal for Liverpool given Alexander-Arnold by then had one month left on his deal and wouldn't play again.
But it seems that won't be the last time the two clubs talk this year. Another approach is on the way.
Real Madrid making moves
Raul Asencio started 18 La Liga fixtures last season but it appears Xabi Alonso isn't a fan. OKDiario reports that Real Madrid are now looking to move on from the defender.
It's not exactly a secret who they want as a new defender, either. Marca are just the latest to report on their interest in Ibrahima Konate.
Konate's contract expires in under a year, meaning he can move for free in 2026. However, Real Madrid want to upgrade their defence and that might mean moving for the Frenchman this summer.

Alexander Isak: Liverpool have new £165m transfer plan to sign Newcastle striker

Liverpool have devised a new £165million plan to sign Alexander Isak this summer. The Reds confirmed their interest in the Newcastle striker earlier this month, expressing a willingness to open talks over a deal for around £120m. Newcastle promptly told them that Isak is not for sale. However, Isak has now told Newcastle he wants to leave, which has prompted the Magpies to explore deals for Yoane Wissa and Benjamin Sesko. Liverpool are expected to launch their first formal bid for Isak this week, with the £65m sale of Luis Diaz to Bayern Munich freeing up a significant chunk of the required transfer fee. Newcastle have reportedly in private set Isak's asking price at £150m, though it remains to be seen if the striker's transfer request will lower that demand. Isak, arguably the best striker in the Premier League, is expected to cost a British record fee, with a fee of at least £130m expected. Liverpool have already broken the British transfer record this summer with the £116m arrival of Florian Wirtz. In any case, Arne Slot is reportedly prepared to sell three more players to fund a move for Isak. According to ESPN, Liverpool believe they can raise a further £100m by selling three unwanted players. Darwin Nunez continues to attract interest from abroad, while Harvey Elliott is thought to be of interest to a number of Premier League club. Federico Chiesa, a disaster signing from last summer despite his £12.5m cost, is also up for sale and could reportedly return to Italy.

Official: Real Madrid midfielder completes loan move to Getafe

Real Madrid have officially announced that midfielder Mario Martin has joined Getafe on a season-long loan deal, which will run until June 30, 2026. The move had been widely expected in recent days, but it was only confirmed on Tuesday morning through a joint statement released by both clubs across their social media platforms. 'Real Madrid CF and Getafe CF have agreed to sign Mario Martin on loan for this season, until June 30, 2026,' the official statement read. The 21-year-old, a product of Real Madrid's famed youth system, was a standout performer at Castilla, where he eventually wore the captain's armband. His leadership and consistency at the reserve level earned him a call-up to the Real Madrid first team during the 2023/24 season. Following that milestone, Martin spent the season with Real Valladolid in La Liga, making 30 appearances in the top flight and featuring twice in the Copa del Rey. (Photo by Florencia) Despite attracting strong interest this summer, Mario Martin remained focused on his future at Real Madrid. He prioritised his development and stayed committed to the club during the FIFA Club World Cup. As such, several teams approached the young midfielder, including Brazilian side Botafogo, where Davide Ancelotti, former assistant to Carlo Ancelotti, pushed for his signing. However, that move ultimately fell through. Getafe, however, had maintained steady interest from the start of the window. Their persistence has now paid off. Martin will aim to continue his growth at the top level in Spain and gain valuable experience with a club that has shown confidence in his potential. The midfielder is also a Spanish under-19 international, having earned seven caps so far. With this loan spell, he has the chance to build on that international experience and return to Madrid as a more complete player.
