Public urged to wear black on Sabah Day, National Day and Malaysia Day to demand justice for Zara
KOTA KINABALU (Aug 13): PAS Sabah Commissioner Datuk Dr Aliakbar Gulasan has called on the public to wear black on Sabah Day, National Day and Malaysia Day as a peaceful show of solidarity and a demand for justice over the unresolved case of the late Zara Qairina Mahathir.
'I take the issue of the late Zara Qairina very seriously, as there has yet to be any decisive development towards a resolution,' he said in a statement on Wednesday.
Aliakbar stressed that the case was not merely a personal tragedy, but a humanitarian and justice issue that has touched the hearts of people throughout Sabah and Malaysia.
He proposed that black clothing be worn during the celebrations as a symbolic act of mourning, solidarity and a demand for justice in the case.
'This symbolic action is peaceful, respectful and constitutional, intended to signal to the authorities that the people are watching, evaluating, and demanding transparent progress,' he said.
Aliakbar also urged the authorities to immediately update the public on the latest status of the investigation, and to ensure that justice is upheld without interference or undue delay.
'I call on all citizens to unite in making this voice for justice an unstoppable wave, to ensure that such a tragedy will never happen again,' he added.
The mother of the 13-year-old victim, Noraidah Lamat, on Wednesday met with Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Hajiji Noor and his wife, Datin Seri Panglima Juliah Salag, at Sri Gaya in Kota Kinabalu.

Negeri Sembilan mandates Jalur Gemilang display for civil servants
SEREMBAN: The Negeri Sembilan government has made it compulsory for department heads and civil servants to fly the Jalur Gemilang and state flag at their residences until Sept 16. Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun stated that department heads, including those residing outside the state, must display both flags at their homes. He added that other civil servants are required to fly at least the Jalur Gemilang. The State Secretary's Office issued a circular on the matter two days ago to nearly 7,000 state civil servants in conjunction with this year's National Day celebrations. Aminuddin said this initiative aims to foster patriotism during the National Month. He spoke to reporters after chairing the state executive council meeting at Wisma Negeri. Meanwhile, Aminuddin urged local governments to adopt more creative ways of displaying the flags to enliven the celebrations. 'Don't just hang them or place them on poles. That's how it was 10 or 20 years ago... let's change the approach to create a livelier atmosphere,' he said. He advised that flag installations be carried out respectfully to honour the nation's sovereignty. - Bernama
