Helicopter services for Char Dham Yatra running smoothly: Uttarakhand Govt
State Director General of Information, Bansidhar Tiwari, told ANI that the services to the four Dhams, including Badrinath and Kedarnath, are operational from all helipads, including the Sahastradhara helipad in Dehradun.
In a post on X, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said the Char Dham Yatra in Uttarakhand is proceeding smoothly, with over 4 lakh devotees having visited the sacred shrines so far.
'Dear Devotees, Chardham Yatra is being conducted smoothly in the state. So far, more than 4 lakh devotees have visited the Dhams. Heli services for Shri Kedarnath Dham are also fully operational. You are requested not to pay attention to any kind of rumour,' he wrote on X.
'The state government is constantly trying to make your travel experience safe and smooth. For any information and assistance, you can call helpline numbers 1364 and 0135-1364. #CharDhamYatra2025,' he added.
'Every year a large number of devotees visit Devbhoomi, Uttarakhand for the Char Dham Yatra,' the chief minister said, adding, 'Our government is continuously working to make the journey smooth, safe and well organised,' CM Dhami said.
The Char Dham Yatra 2025 officially began on April 30 with the opening of the Gangotri and Yamunotri Dham on Akshaya Tritiya amid Vedic chants and rituals. The doors of Kedarnath Dham were opened on May 2, and those of Badrinath on May 4.
Earlier on Tuesday, a 24-hour ban was enforced on the usage of horses and mules in the Kedarnath Yatra, an official said on Monday.
The administration took the following reported deaths of some horses and mules here.
'Yesterday, eight horses and mules died, while today, six of them died. We wanted to ascertain the reason behind it. Tomorrow, a team from the Centre will also come to check the reason for deaths...' said BVRC Purushottam, Secretary, Animal Husbandry (Uttarakhand). (ANI)

'The deluge hit a community kitchen set up for the pilgrims where 100 to 150 pilgrims were having food,' an officer said.

IndiGo ready to resume India-China flights once bilateral arrangements allow
New Delhi [India], August 14 (ANI): IndiGo is prepared to restart its flights from India to China as soon as the necessary bilateral agreements between the two countries are in place, the airline's chief executive Pieter Elbers said on Thursday. "IndiGo operated daily flights between India and China prior to the Covid-19 pandemic. The airline stands ready to resume these services as soon as bilateral arrangements between the two countries allow. Guided by its entrepreneurial spirit, IndiGo remains committed to identifying and pursuing commercially viable opportunities," Elbers said in a statement. The carrier had run daily services between Delhi and Chengdu before the pandemic, alongside Bengaluru-Hong Kong flights, which were in operation until February 1, 2020. These routes, along with other connections to China, were halted in early 2020 when the Covid-19 outbreak triggered global travel restrictions. Air India also suspended its China operations during the same period. While the pandemic caused the immediate suspension of flights, tensions between New Delhi and Beijing added another layer of difficulty. Diplomatic and economic ties deteriorated sharply after the Galwan Valley clash in June 2020 between Indian and Chinese armed forces. The confrontation marked one of the most serious border incidents in decades, leading to strained relations for nearly four years. It was only in October 2024 that both sides reached an agreement on patrolling arrangements along the Line of Actual Control, a step seen as easing some of the long-standing tensions. However, despite the diplomatic thaw, direct commercial flights between India and China were not resumed. For IndiGo, resuming China services would mark a return to a significant market it had to leave abruptly five years ago. The airline, which has rapidly expanded its international network in recent years, is signalling readiness. (ANI)

Badrinath National Highway reopens for traffic after blockade due to debris

Use alternative routes via Ranikhet or via Lamgada for travel," the post read.A day earlier, Kedarnath Yatra pilgrims were stopped at Sonprayag and Jawadi police posts, where barricades were set up to prevent them from proceeding further, in light of the heavy rainfall warnings in the district administration closed the yatra from August 12 to August 15 as a precautionary measure to ensure pilgrim around 100-150 pilgrims tried to force their way past the barricades at Sonprayag, the police intervened and stopped them without any major incidents. Superintendent of Police Rudraprayag, Akshay Prahlad Konde, confirmed that the situation was brought under control without any Prahlad Konde said, this morning, around 100-150 pilgrims reached Sonprayag and they tried to go ahead by arguing with the police at Sonprayag. The police stopped them and did not let them go. No incident has happened with anyone in this case.'When they were stubborn despite instruction, the police had to take action to disperse them," he comes following a video of the altercation between the Rudraprayag Police and the pilgrims going viral in Sonprayag.
