Ahead of Yoga Day, Ayurveda College will organise various activities to promote awareness, holistic health
In view of the 11th International Yoga Day on June 21, the Government Ayurveda Medical College and Hospital, Mysuru, is spearheading a series of yoga and wellness initiatives to promote public awareness and holistic health.
This year's theme is 'Yoga for One Earth, One Health'. As a prelude to the main event, a yoga awareness rally was held recently to encourage community participation and highlight yoga's role in daily well-being.
On Tuesday, a pre-event programme held at the college. K. Harish Gowda, MLA, inaugurated the event. K.S. Radhakrishna Ramarao, the principal of the college, presided over the event.
One of the new features of this year's campaign is Yoga Dhanush, which mobilises government agencies, educational institutions, NGOs, and women's groups (Mahila Mandals) to promote yoga through community engagement.
From June 10 to 15, the District AYUSH Department will conduct outreach programmes at ten Primary Health Centres (PHCs) across Mysuru district, emphasising yoga's preventive and therapeutic benefits, a press release said here.
The main Yoga Day event, with the support of the Mysuru District Administration and Mysuru City Corporation (MCC), will take place on June 21. The AYUSH officials will collaborate with yoga instructors and volunteers to facilitate the celebrations, the release added.
The Green Yoga initiative, as part of the event, will be coordinated by NSS, NCC, Scouts and Guides, Youth Red Cross, and other volunteer groups to encourage yoga practice in schools, colleges, and public spaces through active student and faculty involvement.
Between June 1 and 21, a variety of awareness activities, including street plays, exhibitions, and yoga demonstrations, will be organised across educational institutions, wellness centres, and public venues, with support from the Karnataka AYUSH Department and Mysuru Zilla Panchayat, the release stated.

Five yoga instructors should be appointed as coordinators and must provide two to three days of prior training to the participants. This will ensure that the event is conducted effectively. He also emphasised assigning physical education teachers to manage the queues and maintain order on the day of the programme. Security arrangements will be made by the police department, and the health department will provide ambulance services, first aid, and organise a blood donation camp. Mandya gears up for mega yoga day celebration on June 21
In preparation for the 11th International Yoga Day, Mandya district is set to host a large-scale yoga session at PET Grounds on June 21. Over 6,000 people are expected to take part in the event. Chairing a preparatory meeting here on Monday, Deputy Commissioner Kumar said that meticulous planning is required to ensure the event is conducted in a systematic, disciplined, and inclusive manner. He spoke about yoga's holistic benefits, stating that it not only enhances physical health but also improves concentration, particularly among students. This year's event will be held under the global theme 'One Earth, One Health'. In line with this, two new initiatives, Green Yoga and Yoga Dhanush, will be introduced. As part of Green Yoga, saplings will be planted, in collaboration with the Forest Department, promoting environmental consciousness and personal wellness. To ensure wider reach and participation, a yoga module has been developed via the 'Y-Break Yoga App', especially for prison inmates, persons with disabilities, industrial workers, and employees of the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation. A special yoga session is also planned for garment workers in the Maddur industrial area. The main session at PET Grounds will be held from 7 a.m. to 7.45 a.m., with participants required to arrive by 6 a.m. Dr. Kumar said that five yoga instructors should be appointed to oversee the event.
