Ahead of Yoga Day, Ayurveda College will organise various activities to promote awareness, holistic health
In view of the 11th International Yoga Day on June 21, the Government Ayurveda Medical College and Hospital, Mysuru, is spearheading a series of yoga and wellness initiatives to promote public awareness and holistic health. This year's theme is 'Yoga for One Earth, One Health'. As a prelude to the main event, a yoga awareness rally was held recently to encourage community participation and highlight yoga's role in daily well-being. On Tuesday, a pre-event programme held at the college. K. Harish Gowda, MLA, inaugurated the event. K.S. Radhakrishna Ramarao, the principal of the college, presided over the event. One of the new features of this year's campaign is Yoga Dhanush, which mobilises government agencies, educational institutions, NGOs, and women's groups (Mahila Mandals) to promote yoga through community engagement. From June 10 to 15, the District AYUSH Department will conduct outreach programmes at ten Primary Health Centres (PHCs) across Mysuru district, emphasising yoga's preventive and therapeutic benefits, a press release said here. The main Yoga Day event, with the support of the Mysuru District Administration and Mysuru City Corporation (MCC), will take place on June 21. The AYUSH officials will collaborate with yoga instructors and volunteers to facilitate the celebrations, the release added. The Green Yoga initiative, as part of the event, will be coordinated by NSS, NCC, Scouts and Guides, Youth Red Cross, and other volunteer groups to encourage yoga practice in schools, colleges, and public spaces through active student and faculty involvement. Between June 1 and 21, a variety of awareness activities, including street plays, exhibitions, and yoga demonstrations, will be organised across educational institutions, wellness centres, and public venues, with support from the Karnataka AYUSH Department and Mysuru Zilla Panchayat, the release stated.

Mango and Jackfruit Mela kicks off at Kuppanna Park in Mysuru
The three-day Mango and Jackfruit Mela began on Friday at Kuppanna Park in Mysuru, drawing fruit enthusiasts and local residents eager to sample a variety of seasonal produce. Organised by the Department of Horticulture, the event features 48 stalls, where farmers were selling naturally ripened mangoes and jackfruits directly to consumers. The mela will remain open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily until Sunday, offering visitors an opportunity to purchase fresh, chemical-free fruits straight from the growers. Inaugurating the event, K. Harish Gowda, MLA, highlighted the initiative's goal of promoting farm-fresh produce while supporting local fruit growers. 'This mela provides a platform for farmers to sell their products directly, ensuring quality for consumers and fair returns for the growers,' he said. Joint Director of Horticulture H.M. Nagaraj, Deputy Director Manjunath Angadi, and other officials were present. A wide range of mango varieties, including Badami, Raspuri, Mallika, Saindhura, Malgoa, and Kesar, are available for purchase. Prices are fixed in line with the prevailing rates at Hopcoms outlets. Officials expect a large turnout over the weekend, as the mela continues to attract mango and jackfruit lovers from across the city.
