Tripura announces mega recruitment drive to fill up over 1,600 positions before Durga Puja
Speaking to reporters at the state secretariat in Agartala, Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury said the Cabinet resolved to recruit 700 graduate and 915 postgraduate teachers. 'These decisions were adopted during a Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Manik Saha. We all know that there is a shortage of postgraduate teachers in schools and that's why the education department has decided to recruit postgraduate teachers for these schools. The Teachers' Recruitment Board of Tripura will conduct the recruitment,' he said.
Saha later wrote on X, 'State cabinet approves recruitment of 700 Graduate Teachers (GT) to strengthen our education system and ensure quality education for all. We are committed to provide employment opportunities and march for the Shrestha Tripura.'
The recruitment drive is expected to address a teacher shortage that the Opposition CPM has attributed to the retrenchment of 10,323 teachers positions over faulty recruitment done during the erstwhile Left Front rule.
The cabinet also decided to fill up 37 posts including those of professor, associate professor, assistant professor, deputy registrar, assistant registrar, in National Law University. Six posts of dental medical officers will be filled up under the health department.
'The recruitment process to fill up 37 posts would be done by the National Law University as per their recruitment rules. The recruitment of the medical officers would be done through the Tripura Public Service Commission,' said Chowdhury.

Rekha pushes for cultural unity via art and festivals
New Delhi: CM Rekha Gupta announced a series of initiatives on Sunday aimed at promoting cultural integration and national unity in Delhi. These initiatives include the inclusion of local artists from various states in regional festivals, promotion of non-Hindi languages among children in Delhi and the launch of a Student Exchange Programme with other states. Gupta stated that the Department of Art, Culture and Languages can play a vital role in this endeavour by broadening the scope of its programmes and activities. "The department must take initiatives beyond designated locations and bring them to the general public to enhance public participation," she said. She directed officials to ensure that regional festivals celebrated in Delhi include artists from the respective states, as this would help generate greater interest in these events. CM also stated that efforts will be made to explore possibilities for teaching non-Hindi languages to children in Delhi, enabling them to understand the social and cultural identities of other states. These directions were given during a recent meeting with the Department of Art, Culture and Languages, which minister Kapil Mishra also attended. The objective of the meeting was to enrich Delhi's cultural landscape and to involve all sections of society. "We want the art and culture of various states to reach every street and for every individual to feel connected to it." She added that theatre and folk arts are powerful tools for spreading awareness and information, often more effectively than other forms of communication.

Like CPM, BJP bars people from voting: Mamata
Kolkata: Like in the past, now did not let anyone vote, CM on Sunday, on the eve of the Martyrs' Day rally. While Banerjee did not explicitly refer to EC's special intensive revision in Bihar, she criticised "torture" of Bengali-speakers in BJP-governed states. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Addressing Trinamool netas and workers at Esplanade, Banerjee said: "The democracy that you see in Bengal today did not exist earlier. In Kolkata, all buildings were shut during CPM's tenure so that people were unable to vote. We held a massive protest. CPM did not have the power to stop us, so they opened fire. Thirteen people died, and over 200 were injured." The CM added: "The demand was simple — no ID card, no vote. Based on the report of an observer who was sent here, this 'no ID, no vote' rule was implemented, and people got back their right to vote. We struggled a lot for that." "In 'double-engine' states, BJP does not allow people to vote. As for CPM, we have already exposed and defeated them. Yet, they are still making big speeches on social media," she said. On Bengali-speaking migrants in other states being labelled 'Bangladeshi', the CM said: "They torture people from Bengal just for speaking in Bengali. We respect people of all states." Questioning opposition to the July 21 rally, Banerjee said: "For 33 years, we have been holding this programme here because many people sacrificed their lives at this very place. We organise this one event here each year. Even that bothers some people. What happens to their concerns when they hold Nabanna Abhiyan without police permission?" Large posters of the CM were put up across roads leading to Victoria House, and gates constructed on the way to Esplanade. Cameras fixed below the dais captured footage of supporters arriving. Trinamool netas from districts started dropping in by the afternoon. Banerjee came to the venue around 6pm, and the crowd started shouting "Didi, Didi". She waved as 'Joy Bangla' slogans filled the air and shook hands with a few supporters. The 100-metre stretch on Central Avenue from Dorina crossing to Chandni Chowk metro station was dotted with FAM4TMC members dressed in yellow T-shirts and caps carrying posters and flags demanding a PM from Bengal. They raised the slogan 'Bolchhe Banglar Janata, Pradhanmantri Mamata' while streaming live on social media.

Witness protection scheme implemented: Saha
1 2 Agartala: CM Manik Saha on Sunday announced that the state govt has implemented a witness protection scheme to ensure the safety and cooperation of witnesses, a critical aspect in the delivery of justice, reports Biswendu Bhattacharjee. Addressing a workshop of three criminal laws here Saha said the initiative is part of the state's commitment to effectively implement the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA), which came into force from July 1, 2024. "These laws are a testament to the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union home minister Amit Shah . They reflect a shift from colonial-era frameworks towards a justice-driven, technology-enabled system that is citizen-centric, victim-friendly and time-bound," he said. He noted that new offences such as terrorism, mob lynching, and organised crime have been incorporated, which were previously missing from the legal framework. Moreover, the new laws provide stricter penalties for crimes against women and children, ensuring faster and more transparent justice. Recalling a meeting chaired by Shah in Guwahati on March 16, 2025, the CM said discussions were held with all northeastern states to monitor the preparedness for implementing these laws.
