Tripura announces mega recruitment drive to fill up over 1,600 positions before Durga Puja
Speaking to reporters at the state secretariat in Agartala, Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury said the Cabinet resolved to recruit 700 graduate and 915 postgraduate teachers. 'These decisions were adopted during a Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Manik Saha. We all know that there is a shortage of postgraduate teachers in schools and that's why the education department has decided to recruit postgraduate teachers for these schools. The Teachers' Recruitment Board of Tripura will conduct the recruitment,' he said.
Saha later wrote on X, 'State cabinet approves recruitment of 700 Graduate Teachers (GT) to strengthen our education system and ensure quality education for all. We are committed to provide employment opportunities and march for the Shrestha Tripura.'
The recruitment drive is expected to address a teacher shortage that the Opposition CPM has attributed to the retrenchment of 10,323 teachers positions over faulty recruitment done during the erstwhile Left Front rule.
The cabinet also decided to fill up 37 posts including those of professor, associate professor, assistant professor, deputy registrar, assistant registrar, in National Law University. Six posts of dental medical officers will be filled up under the health department.
'The recruitment process to fill up 37 posts would be done by the National Law University as per their recruitment rules. The recruitment of the medical officers would be done through the Tripura Public Service Commission,' said Chowdhury.

"Delhi is not merely the capital city but also a reflection of the country's cultural identity," she said. "We want the art and culture of various states to reach every street and for every individual to feel connected to it." She added that theatre and folk arts are powerful tools for spreading awareness and information, often more effectively than other forms of communication.

Witness protection scheme implemented: Saha
1 2 Agartala: CM Manik Saha on Sunday announced that the state govt has implemented a witness protection scheme to ensure the safety and cooperation of witnesses, a critical aspect in the delivery of justice, reports Biswendu Bhattacharjee. Addressing a workshop of three criminal laws here Saha said the initiative is part of the state's commitment to effectively implement the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA), which came into force from July 1, 2024. "These laws are a testament to the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union home minister Amit Shah . They reflect a shift from colonial-era frameworks towards a justice-driven, technology-enabled system that is citizen-centric, victim-friendly and time-bound," he said. He noted that new offences such as terrorism, mob lynching, and organised crime have been incorporated, which were previously missing from the legal framework. Moreover, the new laws provide stricter penalties for crimes against women and children, ensuring faster and more transparent justice. Recalling a meeting chaired by Shah in Guwahati on March 16, 2025, the CM said discussions were held with all northeastern states to monitor the preparedness for implementing these laws.
