Taking solstice: nine ways to wear day dresses on the summer's longest day
No better time to make the most of the daylight and, while you're at it, your favourite day dress.
You know the one. The go-to gúna that spends more time on your body than on its hanger.
The one with a cost-per-wear ratio so — you owe it money.
Soon the long nights and chilly temperatures will return, and you'll be brainstorming ways to layer a tea dress that don't involve Grey Gardens cosplay.
Embrace the height of summer and while we're here, let's find you a new wardrobe hero.
The message here is one-and-done.
With sunshine at a premium, time is not to be wasted. Add a pair of flat or heeled sandals, sunglasses, and a raffia bag to any of these looks and you're good to go.
Similarly, look to colour and shape to do the heavy lifting. Penneys clearly understood the assignment with puff sleeves and ruffled V-neck maxi dresses in bright green and red.
Whether pointelle or cotton, the result is easy and breezy. Ditto for & Other Stories and COS; their t-shirt and flounced iterations make laid-back look lovely.
Dressed to impress? You will be in Clare O'Connor's silk shift with its painterly print and - wait for it - pockets.
Equally, Sinead Keary's linen mini (a.k.a. The Marykate) wins big with its detachable shoulder bow ties for days of quiet luxury.
As for me? Since visiting RIXO at Kildare Village, I've acquired a life-size crush on their 'Raven' midi dress.
Can I take this into winter? No better time to test my theory.

Taco Bell announce first Irish restaurant in brilliant fashion
Taco Bell have announced that they're coming to Ireland — and have announced doing so in perfect fashion. The American fast food chain have announced that they'll be bringing their cuisine to our shores as part of the new Applegreen service station on the M3 motorway. The new service station will be situated on Exit 6 of the M3 motorway in Dunshaughlin, Co Meath, and will create over 100 new jobs in the facility. The station will include an M&S Food shop-in outlet, a Burger King, a Crafted — their new deli — and a convenience store, as well as a forecourt and an initial eight ultra-fast EV charging ports. More of the charging ports will come when the area gets more power. @tacobell_uki @Garron Noone ♬ There She Goes – CYRIL & MOONLGHT & The La's Announcing the new restaurant, the chain stitched a brilliant video from Mayo's Garron Noone, who previously said that he wanted a quesadilla from the chain; although he gave his own pronunciation for the Mexican staple. 'I'm just a simple Irish man, I've never had a kweezadilla before,' Garron said in the video; before Taco Bell stitched the video to announce the new location — with a comment inviting Garron to try a kweezadilla. While people were delighted that the chain was coming to Ireland, the location proved baffling to some, with one commenting 'Dunshaughlin of all places.' Taco Bell have announced that they're coming to Ireland — and have announced doing so in perfect fashion, bringing in Garron Noone. Pic: Supplied 'Not Cork, not Dublin but Meath,' another commented, while another added 'Dunshaughlin is the most random place.' Another was delighted, however, commenting 'I've never been so happy to live 20 mins away from Dunshaughlin.' Applegreen are investing around €15million for the new service station, with them set to invest over €1billion to expand its business in Ireland, the UK and US over the next five years. Those who were disheartened to hear that the first Taco Bell will be in Meath needn't fret, however, as Applegreen plan to expand Taco Bell to its Irish locations over the next five years (no Baja Blast is on the menu though, unfortunately.) The iconic chain of Mexican fast food is coming to Applegreen, as it opens the doors to its latest service station next month. Pic: Supplied 'The new Dunshaughlin service area will also see the launch our new Crafted Kitchen & Deli – offering good, honest Irish food, crafted just for you,' Seamus Stapleton, Managing Director for Applegreen's Republic of Ireland, said. 'Crafted will bring a range of new products and will also continue to offer customers deli favourites, such as chicken fillet rolls and breakfast rolls.' Matthew Johnson, New Market Lead for Taco Bell Europe, welcomed the move, saying that the merger will bring the chain's iconic menu and unique dining experience to the country and will allow Taco Bell to continue to grow as a global brand. 'The partnership will Applegreen will enhance Taco Bell's presence in Europe, solidifying our regional footprint but also propelling our global growth ambitions,' he added. Taco Bell in Ireland will open its doors in Applegreen Dunshaughlin in September.
