Taco Bell announce first Irish restaurant in brilliant fashion

Taco Bell have announced that they're coming to Ireland — and have announced doing so in perfect fashion.
The American fast food chain have announced that they'll be bringing their cuisine to our shores as part of the new Applegreen service station on the M3 motorway.
The new service station will be situated on Exit 6 of the M3 motorway in Dunshaughlin, Co Meath, and will create over 100 new jobs in the facility. The station will include an M&S Food shop-in outlet, a Burger King, a Crafted — their new deli — and a convenience store, as well as a forecourt and an initial eight ultra-fast EV charging ports. More of the charging ports will come when the area gets more power. @tacobell_uki @Garron Noone ♬ There She Goes – CYRIL & MOONLGHT & The La's
Announcing the new restaurant, the chain stitched a brilliant video from Mayo's Garron Noone, who previously said that he wanted a quesadilla from the chain; although he gave his own pronunciation for the Mexican staple.
'I'm just a simple Irish man, I've never had a kweezadilla before,' Garron said in the video; before Taco Bell stitched the video to announce the new location — with a comment inviting Garron to try a kweezadilla.
While people were delighted that the chain was coming to Ireland, the location proved baffling to some, with one commenting 'Dunshaughlin of all places.' Taco Bell have announced that they're coming to Ireland — and have announced doing so in perfect fashion, bringing in Garron Noone. Pic: Supplied
'Not Cork, not Dublin but Meath,' another commented, while another added 'Dunshaughlin is the most random place.' Another was delighted, however, commenting 'I've never been so happy to live 20 mins away from Dunshaughlin.'
Applegreen are investing around €15million for the new service station, with them set to invest over €1billion to expand its business in Ireland, the UK and US over the next five years.
Those who were disheartened to hear that the first Taco Bell will be in Meath needn't fret, however, as Applegreen plan to expand Taco Bell to its Irish locations over the next five years (no Baja Blast is on the menu though, unfortunately.) 'The new Dunshaughlin service area will also see the launch our new Crafted Kitchen & Deli – offering good, honest Irish food, crafted just for you,' Seamus Stapleton, Managing Director for Applegreen's Republic of Ireland, said. 'Crafted will bring a range of new products and will also continue to offer customers deli favourites, such as chicken fillet rolls and breakfast rolls.'
Matthew Johnson, New Market Lead for Taco Bell Europe, welcomed the move, saying that the merger will bring the chain's iconic menu and unique dining experience to the country and will allow Taco Bell to continue to grow as a global brand.
'The partnership will Applegreen will enhance Taco Bell's presence in Europe, solidifying our regional footprint but also propelling our global growth ambitions,' he added.
Taco Bell in Ireland will open its doors in Applegreen Dunshaughlin in September.

Irish Drinks Forum 2025 to focus on 'building resilience' in sector

The impact of tariffs on the drinks sector will be among the major talking points at the Irish Drinks Forum 2025. The event, which takes place in Athenry, Co. Galway next month, is seen as the country's flagship event for the food-and-beverage export sector. Senior executives from global drinks brands, government and supply chain leaders will gather for the event as sector faces a new era of disruption and opportunity. The forum will feature a line-up of international brands, industry pioneers, and policy leaders. This year's Irish Drinks Forum comes at a critical time as producers navigate global trade tensions including tariffs, supply chain shocks, climate pressures and shifting consumer demand. Irish drinks exports reached record highs in 2024, but those in the sector warn that volatility across raw materials, international markets and regulation is intensifying. Hosted at the BIA Innovator Campus from September 3-4, this year's forum will feature keynote appearances from global industry leaders. Among those due to address the delegates will be Jamie Fulham, planning and media manager Diageo, and Emma Walls, chief executive of the National Dairy Council (NDC). Over 40 sector leaders from across Ireland, Europe, Asia and North America will contribute to the forum, spanning whiskey, beer, Irish cream liqueurs, cider, spirits, malt, finance, sustainability, and innovation. The drinks sector now accounts for almost half of Ireland's total food and drink exports and supports over 38,000 jobs nationwide. Lynn Harte, Smart Regions Enterprise Innovation programme manager, BIA Innovator Campus and programme manager of the Irish Drinks Forum, said the event is "more than just a conference". 'It's a strategic spark for Ireland's drinks industry at a time when building resilience, innovation, and connection matter more than ever. "At BIA Innovator Campus, we're proud to host and power this national platform that unites producers, pioneers, and policymakers under one roof. "As the operational home of the forum, we're not just facilitating conversations, we're shaping the future of food and drink from the ground up. "This year's programme is bold, forward-thinking, and built on collaboration and we're excited to see the industry's next chapter take shape here in Athenry," she said. Mary Sadlier, CEO of Coole Swan Cream Liqueur, welcomed that this year's forum is focused on building resilience in the industry. 'Our resilience is all about moving forward, you only lose when you stop moving. In a retail-based business the numbers really matter," she said.

Texel ram makes €40,000 at sale in Blessington Mart

The 2025 Texel Premier Sale has broken all records, with Sean McHugh and family claiming the new Irish record for a Texel ram at €40,000. The previous record price of €38,000 had been in place for 19 years before the sale at the weekend. In addition, this year the sale had its biggest ever entry of rams in the premier sale, according to the Irish Texel Sheep Society. The sale took place on Friday (August 8) and Saturday (August 9) in Blessington Mart, with James Porter of the Saltcotes flock in England taking on the difficult job of judging. In a statement, the Irish Texel Sheep Society said: "The ram trade had big anticipation due to the high standard that was on offer, so it was no surprise the record was broke on Saturday." The record-breaking ram, Speenogue Iron Man, was owned by Sean McHugh from Lifford, Co. Donegal. Speenogue Iron Man. The home-bred dam of the ewe which Silver Hill Helpful was bred from was purchased for €1,200 in the Derrylahan sale. Speenogue Iron Man was sold for 40,000gns in a five-way split between Brian Divilly, Ronan Gallagher, Darragh Niland, Michael Gilmore, and Sean Farragher. The sale began with the shearling ewe class, for which the Irish Texel Society said there was "no shortage of big powerful shearling ewes". Pat and Barry Farrell came out on top with a full sister to last year's champion, who went on to do the same as her sister and claim the overall Female Champion title. She was sired by Hilltop Golden Eye, who is out of a Teiglum ewe that has bred the Female Champion for the Farrells for the last three years. This year's Female Champion later went on to sell for an Irish record at auction of €10,000 to Alan Blackwood. Other noteworthy winners included the son of Auldhouseburn Fancy Pants from the flock of Irene Donnelly in the Novice class. Auldhouseburn Fancy Pants. ‘See you in Dublin, bring the noise' – Oasis guitarist lands in Ireland ahead of gigs

Bonehead has re-joined Oasis alongside the Gallagher brothers and members Gem Archer, Andy Bell and Joey Waronker for their reunion tour The countdown for the two sold-out Oasis gigs in Croke Park continues, with founding band member Paul 'Bonehead' Arthurs sharing a photo of the Dublin coastline as the band prepares to touch down in Ireland for the first time since 2009. The guitarist has re-joined Oasis alongside the Gallagher brothers and members Gem Archer, Andy Bell and Joey Waronker for their reunion tour, which continues in Dublin this weekend. Sharing several Irish flag emojis and a view of the Dublin coast from a plane, the musician said: 'Bring on the noise." He also shared a photo of fans enjoying a previous gig on the tour, telling Irish fans: 'See you in Dublin, bring the noise.' According to NME, Noel Gallagher told fans in Cardiff that Arthurs is the one responsible for the reunion tour, saying: 'On guitar, if it wasn't for him, none of this would have happened.' Arthurs, a founding member of the band, played with Oasis for their first three albums before departing in 1999 and has played with Liam Gallagher's solo band in recent years. After a 16-year hiatus, the Gallagher brothers announced last August that they would perform together for the first time since the band's split in 2009. They will bring their highly anticipated Live '25 tour to Dublin for two sold-out nights on Saturday and Sunday, August 16 and 17. Extra rail services to Dublin are planned for the upcoming weekend as crowds are set to descend on Croke Park for the gigs. On the first night of the tour last month, the band thanked their fans for 'putting up with us over the years'. During the gig, Liam apologised to fans for how long it had taken for them to reunite. As they broke into fan-favourite Champagne Supernova, their final song of the evening, he said: 'Right you beautiful people, this is it. Nice one for putting up with us over the years, we know we've been difficult. A movie, produced by Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight, is being made in conjunction with the reunion tour. Formed in Manchester in 1991, the rock band was led by lead guitarist Noel and his brother, lead vocalist Liam, during their 18 years together. Oasis signed to independent record label Creation Records in 1993, rising to fame with the release of their debut chart-topping album Definitely Maybe on August 29 1994. They had hits with songs including Don't Look Back in Anger, Champagne Supernova, Wonderwall and Live Forever. Dig Out Your Soul, the band's last studio album, was released in 2008, just months before their dramatic split.
