2 killed and several injured in Israeli strike on Gaza's only Catholic church

DEIR AL-BALAH, Gaza Strip: An Israeli shell slammed into the compound of Gaza's only Catholic church on Wednesday, killing two people and wounding several others, according to witnesses and church officials. Among the injured was the parish's priest, who became a close friend of Pope Francis in the final months of the late pontiff's life. The shelling of the Holy Family Catholic Church in Gaza also damaged the church compound, where hundreds of Palestinians have been sheltering from the war. Pope Leo XIV on Thursday renewed his call for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza in response to the attack. In a telegram of condolences for the victims sent by the Vatican's No. 2, Cardinal Pietro Parolin, Leo expressed 'his profound hope for dialogue, reconciliation and enduring peace in the region.' The pope was 'deeply saddened to learn of the loss of life and injury caused by the military attack,″ and expressed his closeness to the parish priest, the Rev. Gabriele Romanelli and the entire parish. Romanelli was very close to the late Pope Francis and the two spoke often during the war in Gaza. Hundreds of people sheltered at the church The church compound was sheltering both Christians and Muslims, including a number of children with disabilities, according to Fadel Naem, acting director of Al-Ahli Hospital, which received the fatalities and people injured.

Trump's Operation Midnight hammer against Iran failed? Reports indicate US could only hit..., Iran is now...

US vs Iran Trump's Operation Midnight hammer against Iran failed? In a significant development weeks after US military targeted three key Iranian nuclear enrichment sites—Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan in Operation Midnight Hammer, it has been revealed by media reports that only the Fordow facility of Iran was significantly damaged during the US attack. Likely delaying the uranium enrichment activities by up to two years, the damage was portrayed by US as huge attack on the uranium enrichment process of Iran. Did US attack on Iran fail? However, reports are now saying that the Natanz and Isfahan sites suffered limited damage and could potentially resume operations within a few month after the United States led by President Donald Trump attacked it. To be specific, as per a report by NBC News, US strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities last month destroyed only one of the three enrichment sites. It is also being reported that Iran may have re-started its uranium enrichment process. How did Iran react on US attacks? While Iranian and Israeli sources confirmed the destruction at Fordow, they also acknowledged that Iran's broader nuclear capabilities remain largely intact, raising concerns about the operation's long-term effectiveness. Iran always ready for talks on its nuclear program, says Iranian Foreign Minister Meanwhile, Iran has always been, and will be, 'ready for talks' on its nuclear program, Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi said. 'However, it should naturally be guaranteed that in case the negotiation starts again, it will not lead to a war to be waged by the United States or other parties,' Araghchi said at a meeting with foreign ambassadors and representatives. Araghchi said that the recent Israel-Iran fighting proved that there is no other alternative but to return to diplomacy and a negotiated and agreed solution, Xinhua news agency reported quoting the Iranian Students' News Agency. As per a report by IANS news agency, the United States 'betrayed diplomacy and the negotiating table' by assisting Israel in attacking Iran and by directly targeting Iranian nuclear facilities afterward, he said.
