Revitalised Stamford Court to get new co-working space by The Great Room by H2 2026
As TGR's ninth Singapore outlet and fourteenth in Asia-Pacific, the space will be launched as a collaboration between the home-grown brand and Singapore-based real estate investment and asset management firm Elevate Capital, TGR said on Wednesday (Aug 6).
Elevate Capital is one of two parties behind the joint venture (JV) that is redeveloping the four-storey building in the City Hall area, having acquired it for S$132 million in 2024 from UOL subsidiary Singapore Land .
The other is PGIM Real Estate, the real estate investment arm of PGIM, Prudential Financial's global asset management business.
Ashish Manchharam, Elevate Capital's founder and managing partner, said the collaboration expresses the vision for Stamford Place – the new name for the redeveloped Stamford Court.
'Together with TGR, we're reimagining a once-overlooked site (as) a dynamic hub where work, culture and community converge – bringing new energy to the civic district and shaping a lifestyle destination,' said Manchharam, who was involved in the development of TGR's South Bridge space in 2023.

In an interview with The Business Times in December, Manchharam mentioned plans to introduce a co-working space and serviced apartments to the upper floors of the property, which is slated to complete its redevelopment some time between mid and late 2026.
'Boutique office experience'
The upcoming co-working space, The Great Room Stamford Place, will offer a 'contemporary boutique office experience', TGR said. Spread across two floors, it will occupy around 30,000 square feet of space.
The Stamford Court building is accessible to the City Hall and Bras Basah MRT stations, and 'taps into increasing demand for flexible workspaces on the fringe of the Central Business District, particularly among professionals in the creative, media and lifestyle sectors', TGR said.
The property's redevelopment is also part a larger repositioning initiative by Elevate Capital to transform the development into a blend of modern workspaces alongside retail and design-led boutique serviced residences, said TGR.
Established in 2016, TGR was acquired by workplace-as-a-service company Industrious in 2022, which was in turn acquired by New York-listed real estate company CBRE in early 2025.

Google unveils modest upgrades to Pixel smartphones, other gadgets
Alphabet's Google introduced on Wednesday a new lineup of Pixel smartphones and gadgets, intensifying its efforts to embed artificial intelligence across a wide ecosystem of products. The products were launched at the annual 'Made by Google' event held in New York, which marked a return to more modest upgrades of its smartphones, smartwatch, and wireless earbuds compared to last year's event that industry analysts said was bigger and bolder than usual. New AI features rolling out with the Pixel 10 lineup include a "coach" in the camera app to help users take better pictures and an assistant that displays relevant information without a user's explicit request, such as showing a flight confirmation email when they call an airline. The exteriors of the phones remain largely the same, though Google added a telephoto lens on the base model to bring it in line with the cameras on its pricier units. Prices, starting at $799 for the base unit and $1,799 for the foldable model, remained flat despite concerns earlier this year that some smartphones could experience drastic price hikes due to U.S. tariffs. The Pixel 10, as well as the souped-up Pixel 10 Pro and Pixel 10 Pro XL, will be available later this month, while the Pixel 10 Pro Fold is slated to ship in October. All the Pixel phones are equipped with Google's latest mobile processor, Tensor G5, and for the first time, feature a magnetic charging technology called Pixelsnap that is reminiscent of the MagSafe functionality on rival Apple's iPhones. Google unveiled a series of Pixelsnap chargers, cases and phone stands to accompany the launch. MARKET SHARE WOES Google's annual hardware event has traditionally served as a way for the company to show off to device makers and software developers the potential of Android, a key strategic component to battling competition from Apple, which has its own operating system for its iPhones. Though Google develops the Android operating system underlying more than 80 per cent of smartphones worldwide, its Pixel line generates a fraction of the sales of other firms selling Android-powered phones, such as Samsung and Xiaomi. Google has so far limited its focus to the high-end market. Nearly three-quarters of Pixel shipments occurred in the United States, Japan and UK, according to research firm IDC. Amid the generative AI boom, the company shifted the timing of its hardware event for the first time last year from its traditional autumn schedule to the summer, giving it a chance to preempt Apple in promoting AI integrations on smartphones. That has not yet translated to a material improvement in market share: for the second quarter, Google held 1.1 per cent of the worldwide smartphone market, up from 0.9 per cent one year ago, according to IDC. In the United States, Pixel's biggest market in terms of shipments, the share slid to 4.3 per cent from 4.5 per cent in that same time period, according to IDC. Google announced new versions of its smartwatch, the Pixel Watch 4, and its cheaper Pixel Buds 2a wireless earbuds, though it left the Pixel Buds Pro 2 pat besides announcing a new color and an upcoming software update with device-specific upgrades.

Grab blames 'system error' for very high prices on app, some above S$1,000
SINGAPORE: Riding-hailing platform Grab has blamed a "system error" for unusually high prices wrongly displayed on its app, some of them above S$1,000 (US$778), on Wednesday (Aug 20). The glitch was reported by some users around noon. Users in both Singapore and Malaysia reported these sky-high fares appearing on Grab's app and some users were affected by the errors, even with Grab's safeguards preventing most bookings with incorrect charges from going through Affected users of these prices have already had their refunds processed as of 9pm, Grab said in a statement on Wednesday night. It was not clear earlier if any payments at that price point were charged to any riders. Grab said the system error was an unwelcome surprise due to a misconfigured fee, which it corrected within 20 minutes. "We are doing everything to learn from this so it doesn't happen again," Grab said. In an earlier response to queries from CNA, Grab said its app was functioning as usual after the issue was resolved.
