All Blacks name FIVE debutants in squad for France Tests
New Zealand coach Scott Robertson named five debutants on Monday in a 33-man squad skippered by Scott Barrett for three Tests against France, as Dalton Papali'i, Ethan Blackadder and David Havili missed out.
The new faces include forwards Brodie McAlister, Ollie Norris, Fabian Holland, and Du'Plessis Kirifi, along with wing Timoci Tavatavanawai.
Robertson said the line-up for Tests next month in Dunedin, Wellington and Hamilton was a balance of 'continuity and opportunity'.
'Around three-quarters of the players named today were part of our squad for the 2024 northern tour, which is important because we want to continue to build on the rugby we were playing at the end of last year,' he said.
'We have balanced that with an exciting group of new and returning players who have performed during Super Rugby Pacific.
'For the five uncapped players this is a particularly special day,' he added.
'These players have all impressed us with their talent and work ethic and have earned their opportunity to be part of this All Blacks squad.'
The All Blacks also welcome back hooker Samisoni Taukei'aho and centre Quinn Tupaea, who have not featured since 2023 and 2022, respectively.
Scott Barrett retains the captaincy, with brother Jordie and veteran flanker Ardie Savea his deputies.
'Scott's leadership is hugely valued in this group, and well complimented by Ardie and Jordie,' said Robertson.
'They will play a vital role, along with the wider player leadership group, in supporting the transition of the new players into the environment and imparting their experience to ensure the squad is set up for success.'

In his five years as a head coach, Ouaddou has just one trophy – the Congolese Cup – to his name. To unseat Sundowns at the top of the table, the club might need someone with a bit more pedigree. Last year, Ouaddou made headlines across South Africa when he announced his resignation as AS Vita head coach during the post-match press conference after going down to Stellenbosch FC in the CAF Confederation Cup. His reasoning for quitting the team was valid. According to him, the club, supposedly one of the most supported on the continent, was not run very professionally. They trained on a different pitch every day, and for their clash against Stellenbosch, they only landed in Cape Town hours before the game due to visa issues. In his previous two jobs, he's shown no sign that he is capable of guiding a team to a league title. Pirates have made a mistake with this one. Had they appointed Mokwena, they would have had a coach who knows how to win a league. For a club of Pirates' stature, ambition matters as much as loyalty and potential. Ouaddou might turn out to be a smart long-term project, but right now, the Buccaneers don't need a rebuild – they need a ruthless title charge. If this gamble doesn't pay off quickly, it could set the club back just as Sundowns threaten to stretch even further out of reach. Meet Kaizer Chiefs' new midfield maestro, Thulani Mabaso
Born in 2004, Thulani Mabaso has been with Kaizer Chiefs since he was 14. He's one of four young names promoted for the Netherlands tour.
