Man guilty of murdering couple before dumping their remains in suitcases
A man who murdered two men and dumped their remains in suitcases near Clifton Suspension Bridge has been found guilty of murder.
Yostin Andres Mosquera, 35, killed civil partners Albert Alfonso, 62, and Paul Longworth, 71, on July 8 last year in their flat in Scotts Road, Shepherd's Bush, west London.
Mosquera, who was also staying with the couple, 'decapitated and dismembered' them, froze parts of their remains and brought the rest in suitcases to Clifton Suspension Bridge in Bristol.
He repeatedly stabbed Alfonso, who suffered injuries to his torso, face and neck, while Longworth was attacked with a hammer to the back of his head and his skull shattered.
Mosquera planned to hurl the suitcases over the bridge to dispose of the remains after the 'calculated and premeditated' killings, prosecutor Deanna Heer KC said. He admitted killing Alfonso but said he 'lost control'.
He pleaded not guilty to murdering both men and insisted Alfonso killed Longworth. It took a jury five hours and three minutes to unanimously find Mosquera guilty.
Justice Bennathan KC, said he would sentence Mosquera on October 24, saying: 'I am not going to pass sentence on you today, although the only one I can pass on you is one of life imprisonment.
'I am going to order a psychiatric report on you. It is in your interests to cooperate with the psychiatrist so that I can decide the minimum term you are going to serve.'
Days after the murders, a cyclist on Clifton Suspension Bridge in Brighton spotted Mosquera around 11.30 pm next to a large red suitcase.
The cyclist thought he was a tourist and stopped to ask if he was okay. He noticed a silver trunk a few metres away from Mosquera.
The defendant told the cyclist he was from Colombia and that the suitcases contained car parts – but they contained the dismembered bodies of Longworth and Alfonso.
Alfonso and Longworth's decapitated heads were found by police in a chest freezer in their flat, the court heard.
Alfonso, a swimming instructor, and Longworth, a retired handyman, had been living together before their death.
On July 8 last year, Alfonso worked an early shift at the gym, and it was while he was out, Mosquera killed Longworth, the court heard. More Trending
Alfonso was killed at about 10.15 pm in his bedroom, before searching Facebook Marketplace to search for a freezer, and he searched 'where on the head is a knock fatal' on Google and YouTube.
Footage shown in court showed Mosquera later having sex with Alfonso, before ending the sexual encounter by 'repeatedly stabbing' Alfonso and 'cutting his throat'.
He then started using Alfonso's computer, and examination of the computer shows the defendant looking at banking information – before trying to send £4,000 to his account in Colombia.
Mosquero was arrested on July 13 at about 2.15 am after being found sitting on a bench outside Bristol Temple Meads railway station, the jury was told.

Who is missing inventor Julian Brown - and why is his 'disappearance' such a mys
To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video A 21-year-old inventor who disappeared after posting cryptic videos saying he was under attack is keeping a low profile, according to his mum. Julian Brown has not been seen in public since July 9 after he posted a video claiming that he was under attack. Nia Brown told reporters she could not provide anymore details. But who is Julian Brown and why is there mystery over his whereabouts? We take a look below. Julian is an inventor who lives in Atlanta, Georgia, and has more than 1.7million followers on Instagram. He gained prominence for his work in the energy field in particular 'Plastoline'. The inventor has gained lots of public attention and millions of followers after sharing updates on social media about his work. He's only hit the headlines this month after his mysterious disappearance from social media. Julian is the founder of Naturejab, a company that makes natural products, as 'an innovator in the use of microwave pyrolysis of plastic waste.' He is best known for inventing Plastoline – a device that he claims converts plastic waste into usable fuels such as gasoline, diesel and jet fuel. This is achieved by microwave pyrolysis which heats plastic in the absence of oxygen to break it down chemically into fuel. He first learnt his skills at school during a welding class. Talking about his inspiration behind the creation of the technology, he said: 'It made me so upset that even though we are told that we are recycling, plastic is clearly ending up in the oceans and landfills where it is affecting so many lives, including our own.' He received $100,000 from Reddit co-creator Alexis Ohanian, to realise his dream. Julian has not been heard from since July 9 and posted a chilling video before his disappearance. He wrote in a post: 'Something is happening, keep me in your prayers please. SCREEN RECORD THIS. I don't know. 'I'm certainly under attack… I can't go into so much detail.' Before July 9, he also posted some concerning messages where it appeared like he felt he was being targeted. He wrote on July 3: 'A SECRET Helicopter circled me in the middle of NOWHERE… and it gets even scarier – Pray for me please.' It sparked concern from his followers that he was in danger for his invention. More Trending His mum Nia told Daily Mail that Julian is not missing and that he is safe despite his quiet presence online. She said: 'I can confirm Julian is safe but in the best interest of his security I'm not able to provide any more information.' But when she was pressed for further details, she said she could not provide anymore information. It is still a mystery as to when Julian will make a public appearance again. Google engineer killed by falling tree branch while hiking in Yosemite National Park: ‘Just unimaginable'
A young software engineer at Google was killed in a 'freak accident' after a large branch fell and hit her during a hike in the Yosemite National Park. Angela Lin, 29, was out with her boyfriend in the Tuolumne Grove area of the park on the afternoon of July 19 when the incident occurred. 'It was just unimaginable that something like this could occur,' her partner, David Hua, told SD Gate. 'On such a popular trail, too.' Hua recalled that several branches had fallen out of the sky, including several smaller ones near to him and a large one that had struck Lin. Lin was on the ground with a bloody head wound, he said, adding that he had performed CPR on her until a park ranger had arrived. An ambulance was later called but Lin was reportedly already dead. The Independent has contacted the Yosemite National Park for further information on the incident. Other details on the incident were scarce, though one individual who claimed to have been present posted on Reddit: 'I am a tourist, but was on the scene of an extremely tragic freak accident in the area trying to provide aid, and it has been haunting me. 'I can't stop thinking about it and can't find any news articles updating about the situation.' In posts on Facebook groups the Lin family requested privacy to deal with their grief. However, Hua says that authorities have not been forthcoming with further information on their investigations – prompting him to reach out to the media. 'We are seeking more information from the park service regarding this incident, especially around trail safety, maintenance and awareness of problematic trees on popular trails, and future prevention of similar incidents,' Hua told SF Gate. In a statement shared with The Independent, a spokesperson for Google said: "We lost a loved and respected member of our team. We're very saddened by this tragedy, and our hearts are with their family and loved ones.'

Emergency crews were called to the fast-food joint next to the Glasgow Fort on Auchinlea Way this afternoon. 2 The incident happened at the McDonald's near the Glasgow Fort retail park Credit: GOOGLE MAPS Police and fire crews were scrambled to the restaurant in the east end of the city at around 1.10pm. Photos from the scene show a black motor sticking out of the side of the building between two Drive-Thru windows. The front of the car is buried in the building's outside brown panels, creating a large hole in the side of the branch. The vehicle collided with the restaurant head-on, which means it had to be facing the wrong way and driving perpendicular to the Drive-Thru road. To do this, it would have had to ram through a wooden barrier that runs along the Drive-Thru route. Officers have confirmed that the driver has been taken to hospital to be checked over. They added that enquiries into the incident are ongoing. Blue and white police tape has been thrown up around the crash site, blocking access to the public. And fire engine was seen parked outside the Easterhouse venue in front of the area where the car crashed into the building. A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 1.10pm on Tuesday, 29 July, 2025, we were called to a report of a crash on Auchinlea Way, Glasgow, where a car had struck a building.
