The Hindu2 days ago
A New Delhi-bound Air India flight from Thiruvananthapuram was diverted to Chennai on Sunday night due to a technical snag.
Air India said the flight landed safely in Chennai, where the aircraft will undergo the necessary checks.
Among the passengers on board were four Kerala MPs, including K.C. Venugopal, K. Radhakrishnan, Kodikkunnil Suresh and Adoor Prakash.
'The flight crew of AI2455 operating from Thiruvananthapuram to Delhi on August 10 made a precautionary diversion to Chennai due to a suspected technical issue and given the weather conditions en route,' the airline said in a statement.
Mr. Radhakrishnan said the flight had departed Thiruvananthapuram around 8.20 p.m. The pilot had informed them about the diversion about one hour later. 'We landed in Chennai around 10.45 p.m.,' he said.
He said the Air India had arranged another flight for the passengers.
The flight took off little past 8 pm from Thiruvananthapuram and landed in Chennai at around 10.35 pm, as per information from Flightradar24.com.
In recent weeks, there have been instances of some of Air India's aircraft facing technical snags.

Ahmedabad plane crash: US attorney, kin of victims join candlelight vigil

Ahmedabad, Aug 12 (PTI) Family members of Air India plane crash victims on Tuesday participated in a candlelight vigil at the site of the tragedy in Meghaninagar area of Ahmedabad to mark two months since the deadly aviation disaster. United States-based aviation attorney Mike Andrews, who is in Gujarat to meet the kin of the deceased, also participated, said his media coordinator, Kuldip Israni. 'Andrews and 20 to 25 family members of the air crash victims, including passengers and those killed on the ground, participated in the candlelight vigil in memory of the victims," said Israni. Andrews, on August 8, announced that at least 65 families from India and the United Kingdom, who lost their kin in the horrific tragedy on June 12, have hired US-based law firm Beasley Allen, with which he is associated as an aviation attorney. Andrews had told reporters in Vadodara that the families have an option of filing a product liability claim in a US court, depending on the findings of the ongoing investigation. On June 12, Air India's Boeing 787-8 aircraft en route to London Gatwick crashed into a medical hostel complex shortly after taking off from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport and burst into flames, killing 241 out of 242 people onboard and 19 individuals on the ground, including four medical students. During the last week, Andrews met family members of several victims in Vadodara, Ahmedabad, Surat and neighbouring Diu. Trains detained for hours as vertical lift span of Pamban rail bridge got stuck midway

Four trains, including two express trains, leaving Rameswaram were detained for hours after the vertical lift span of the new Pamban rail bridge got stuck midway on Tuesday. Train No. 16104 Rameswaram — Tambaram Express, Train no. 16527 Rameswaram — Chennai Egmore Express, Train no. 56716 Rameswaram — Madurai passenger and Train No. 56713 Madurai —Rameswaram Passenger were detained on both sides of the bridge since evening. The Tambaram-bound train, which left Rameswaram at 4 p.m., was stopped ahead of the Pamban railway bridge after the officials could not lower the vertical span to the track level of the bridge Rameswaram — Chennai Egmore Express that was scheduled to leave at 5.50 p.m. could leave only at 8.20 p.m. The passenger trains were partially cancelled between Rameswaram and Mandapam with inordinate delay in resumption of their services. After a lot of struggle, the 654-tonne lift span was placed on the track and a light engine was run over the bridge. After the trial was successful around 7 p.m., the train services were resumed. As a result, the Tambaram-bound train was delayed for nearly four hours. The central span had got stuck midway within a few minutes after Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated it on April 6.
