Jagan Reddy Party MP Midhun Reddy Arrested Over Rs 3,200 Crore Liquor Scam in Andhra Pradesh
Andhra Pradesh police on Saturday arrested YSRCP Lok Sabha member PV Midhun Reddy in the alleged Rs 3,200-crore liquor scam during the previous YSRCP regime.
The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the alleged liquor scam grilled Midhun Reddy for several hours today and followed it up with his arrest at around 7.30 pm in Vijayawada.
"Yes (he has been arrested). The process (to produce him before a court) is going on," Home Minister Vangalapudi Anitha told PTI over phone.
Midhun Reddy represents the Rajampet constituency in Andhra Pradesh.
The YSRCP leader arrived in Vijayawada earlier today to attend the probe and his questioning comes in the wake of the arrest of other accused persons--Dhanunjay Reddy, Krishna Mohan Reddy and Balaji Govindappa.
Meanwhile, the opposition party slammed Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu for allegedly indulging in vindictive behaviour and foisting 'false' cases against people close to YSRCP supremo YS Jagan Mohan Reddy.
The case against Mithun Reddy is part of a larger vindictive conspiracy to arrest people who are in close proximity to the party leadership, said senior YSRCP leader Malladi Vishnu in a release.
"But we will bounce back to call the bluff of Chandrababu Naidu," he said, adding that the more vindictive the actions of the Naidu government, the stronger YSRCP's resolve becomes to fight back and expose the 'failures and corruption' of the coalition government.
Further, senior YSRCP leader L Appi Reddy said Midhun Reddy comes from a family with a long and distinguished political history.
"I am confident that justice will prevail and that the judiciary will act fairly. His decision to attend the inquiry shows his determination to prove his innocence and his respect for the rule of law," Reddy told PTI Videos.

390 check posts in border dists to prevent liquor movement ahead of elections
Patna: The Bihar Police headquarters on Tuesday announced to set up 390 check posts in 23 border districts to prevent illicit liquor movement ahead of the upcoming assembly elections. The police have also identified locations for an additional 161 check posts in bordering states. As many as 10 teams of special operations group (SOG) under the prohibition unit have been deployed to keep tabs on the liquor trade. On an average, the SOG has been recovering 75,000 litre liquor every month. Amit Kumar Jain, ADG (weaker sections), during a press conference, highlighted increased liquor seizures, arrests and strategic inter-state operations. This year till June, over 16 lakh litre liquor worth over Rs 74 crore has been recovered in the state, marking a 12% increase in average monthly seizures, compared to 2024, he said. The units are especially keeping an eye on hooch traders to prevent incidents of poisoning, even as no such case has been reported this year, added Jain. "This year till June, a total of 63,442 individuals have been arrested. Over 61% of them were consumers and 39% liquor traders and distributors. The police have also identified 305 wanted accused from other states and are sharing their lists with the authorities concerned," said the release, adding 13,921 liquor traders from outside Bihar have been arrested within the state since April 2016. "A total of nine death penalties and 18 life imprisonments have been given to the offenders from April 2016 to July 2025," it read. In light of the upcoming elections, the Bihar Police is actively coordinating with their counterparts and excise departments of other states like Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, West Bengal, Jharkhand, Rajasthan and Arunachal Pradesh to curb the smuggling of IMFL. This coordination includes sharing information to identify the retailers/wholesalers. Meanwhile, the district police have been asked to ensure timely destruction of the seized liquor and photography of the process.

BJP lodges police complaint in Delhi against Mamata Banerjee over ‘fake video'
Kolkata: West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee's allegation that the Delhi police physically tortured a toddler and his mother on July 26 during the ongoing drive against migrant workers from her state on the suspicion that they were illegal Bangladeshi immigrants triggered a row on Tuesday with the Bharatiya Janata Party lodging a police complaint against her in the national capital. (PTI) In the complaint letter, a copy of which was seen by HT, Banerjee was charged with 'dissemination of fake and communally provocative content on social media intended to defame the Delhi Police and disturb public order.' It was filed on Tuesday afternoon at the cyber crime branch at the Delhi police headquarters by Soumendu Adhikari, the BJP Lok Sabha member from Contai and brother of the leader of the Opposition in Bengal Assembly, Suvendu Adhikari. The complaint letter said Banerjee should be booked for several offences including 'wantonly giving provocation with intent to cause riot' and 'cyber terrorism.' On July 27, Banerjee posted a video of a toddler and his mother on social media and alleged that Delhi police physically tortured them during the drive. 'Atrocious!! Terrible!! Banerjee referred to the video again on Monday while leading a protest in Birbhum district. The video was apparently recorded by a man who pointed at some scars in the child's left ear and forehead. 'Police tortured my wife and one-and-a-half year-old son,' the man could be heard saying in the video. The Delhi police countered the allegation on Monday, calling the charges 'fabricated' and 'politically motivated.' Addressing the media, deputy commissioner of police (East) Abhishek Dhania said: 'Upon inquiry, we identified the woman as Sanjanu Parveen. During questioning, she alleged that on the night of July 26, four men in plain clothes posing as police personnel took her and her child to a secluded spot and demanded ₹25,000, which she claimed to have paid.' The DCP said police investigation, analysis of footage from local security cameras and local intelligence revealed inconsistencies in the woman's statements. 'During sustained questioning, the woman admitted that her relative, a political worker from Malda district in West Bengal, had asked her to make the video. The video was then circulated locally in Bengal and later surfaced on social media,' Dhania said. 'This appears to be a deliberate attempt to malign the image of Delhi Police through a politically motivated narrative. The matter is still under investigation,' he added. On Tuesday, while Suvendu Adhikari addressed the media in Kolkata and showed a security camera footage recovered by the Delhi police, the chief minister stuck to her allegation while addressing an administrative meeting in Birbhum. 'Check the records. The woman was held overnight by Delhi police and threatened. She is still in their custody. We want all of them to return safely. After that it will be clear who is lying and who is telling the truth, ' she said. Bengal BJP unit president Samik Bhattacharya targeted the chief minister. 'We all know she is a creative person, a painter, a poet and a writer. It is surprising that she composed such a weak script. The lies have been exposed,' said Bhattacharya.
