India batter Karun Nair pushed his case for a Test recall against England by scoring 186 not out for India A on day one of the first unofficial Test against England Lions.The 33-year-old famously scored 303 not out against England in Chennai in 2016, only to be dropped three Tests later after six matches.Nair, who has played county cricket for Northamptonshire since his last international, has been included in India's squad for the upcoming Test series and dominated a youthful bowling attack in Canterbury.The right-hander was dropped on 89 and 134, but put on 181 with Sarfaraz Khan and 177 unbroken with Dhruv Jurel.Sarfaraz, a surprise omission from India's Test squad, made 92 and Jurel, who was included, ended the day on 82 not out. Test opener Yashasvi Jaiswal was caught behind off 19-year-old Hampshire seamer Eddie Jack for 24.The pick of the Lions bowlers was left-armer Josh Hull, who made his England debut in the third Test against Sri Lanka last year. He had India A skipper Abhimanyu Easwaran lbw for eight and Sarfaraz caught down the leg side.The four-day match continues on Saturday and is followed by a second unofficial Test from 6 June in Northampton.England all-rounder Chris Woakes and new India Test skipper Shubman Gill are in the respective squads for the second match as they prepare for the highly anticipated five-Test series which begins on 20 June at Headingley.

surprised his close pal Sam Thompson with a motivational facetime call as he prepares for day four of his 260-mile endurance challenge. The I'm A Celeb star, 34, who is taking part in a Soccer Aid Challenge and has raised over £604,000 so far, received a sweet message of support from his former Made In Chelsea co-star. After suffering in his own gruelling charity marathon, Jamie, 36, knew exactly how Sam was feeling as he approached the half way mark. The BBC Radio 1 presenter had the whole nation behind him as he ran 30 miles for five consecutive days across the country in March, raising an incredible £2.3m. 'It's day three baby, it's the worst. It's just going to be longer, harder but my reason for doing it still hasn't changed. I really hope people are digging deep for UNICEF, seeing what I'm trying to do and are getting behind this challenge.' Speaking about Sam's injury, on the road physio, Gary Lewin said: 'Sam has got a significant injury to his calf. We tried to take the weight off of it yesterday by giving him a bike day and in the afternoon he said it felt better, so we tried a bit of walking'. 'He can't put much weight on it. My advice today is we're going to start out with a walk today and then cycle and see how we get on. He's in safe hands and medical advice is he can continue'.

Chelsea REFUSE to match asking price for Serie A star - and hold further talks over summer move for Premier League striker after confirming £30m Liam Delap signing
Chelsea are refusing to match AC Milan 's asking price for goalkeeper Mike Maignan despite having signed Liam Delap in a cut-price deal. The Blues will not pay the £25million fee which the Italian side have valued their goalkeeper at. Chelsea believe that the French international, who has one year remaining of his contract, is worth nearer to £10m. The 29-year-old is yet to sign a contract extension at AC Milan but no bid has been forthcoming. Maignan moved to Italy four years ago after six seasons with Lille, where he won Ligue 1 in 2021. He lifted the Serie A title with Milan in 2022 and the Supercoppa Italiana in 2024. Chelsea already have five goalkeepers in their squad but none have convinced Blues fans as they prepare for a return to the Champions League next season. Robert Sanchez, Filip Jorgensen, Djordje Petrovic, Mike Penders and Kepa Arrizabalaga are all currently contracted at Stamford Bridge but they have not persuaded the Chelsea hierarchy against looking for another keeper this window. Meanwhile, the west London outfit are also holding talks with Brighton star Joao Pedro. Chelsea are among a number of teams interested and also held a meeting regarding the Brazilian last month. The 23-year-old cost £30m from Watford in 2023 and scored an impressive 10 goals while claiming four assists in the Premier League last season. Chelsea would be willing to offer around £50million with the possibility of other players being offered in the deal, potentially even on loan. Pedro would further boost Chelsea's attack after they completed the signing of Liam Delap from Ipswich on a six-year deal on Wednesday. The 22-year-old became Enzo Maresca's second signing of the summer after they triggered his £30m release clause. The two clubs came to an agreement over Delap last week, and after undergoing a medical he has put pen to paper on a long-term contract at Stamford Bridge. The striker had interest from Manchester United, Newcastle, Nottingham Forest and Everton, after an impressive first full season in the Premier League. Delap scored 12 Premier League goals in 37 appearances after leaving Manchester City last summer. Pep Guardiola's side will receive 30 per cent of the fee as per their sell-on clause.
