NFC North watch: Packers are releasing Pro Bowl CB Jaire Alexander
The Detroit Lions are off for a few weeks, but the NFL never sleeps. One of Detroit's division rivals is going to look different after a roster move on Monday.
The Green Bay Packers are releasing Pro Bowl cornerback Jaire Alexander, according to numerous reports. Alexander's release has been expected, as the former All-Pro has struggled with injuries over the last couple of seasons. As Packers Wire colleague Zach Kruse notes,
Alexander was Brian Gutekunst's first ever draft pick and a two-time All-Pro at a premium position, but significant injuries suffered during three of the last four seasons frustrated both sides and necessitated change, either in compensation for 2025 in Green Bay or a new team for the player.
Injuries forced Alexander to miss both of Green Bay's losses to Detroit in the 2024 season. He also missed both Lions-Packers matchups in 2023. Alexander, Green Bay's first-round pick in 2018, recorded one INT, four PDs and 24 total tackles in seven games against the Lions.
The move saves the Packers over $17 million in cap room for 2025, adding some $7 million in dead cap space. Green Bay is very unproven at cornerback as the Packers head into 2025. Packers Wire notes their depth situation at CB,

Former Browns WR Elijah Moore drawing rave reviews from new Bills teammates

Former Browns WR Elijah Moore drawing rave reviews from new Bills teammates Wide receiver Elijah Moore departed the Cleveland Browns for the Buffalo Bills late into NFL free agency, but he is already seeing praise heaped upon him by his new teammates. The particular Bills teammate? Pro Bowl and former first round cornerback Tre'Davious White. Unprompted, White had this to say on the now-former Browns and New York Jets wideout looking for a fresh start on his third team: 'He's gonna be a big-time player for us. Route running is amazing, getting in and out, his breaks is amazing.' Moore finished his two-year stint with the Browns with just 1,178 yards receiving and three touchdowns, catching the football from a wide multitude of quarterbacks in that span under some lackluster offenses. Both seasons, however, were career-highs for Moore after coming over from the Jets in a trade before the 2023 NFL draft. Now playing with the first stable quarterback of his entire career, is Moore destined for a breakout season in Buffalo? Besides, Moore did flash in the brown and orange with quarterback Joe Flacco providing the most consistent quarterback play he has seen in his NFL career. It would certainly be a tough pill to swallow in Cleveland if he produces at a high level while catching passes from reigning MVP Josh Allen.

Pro Bowl punter Logan Cooke signs a 4-year contract extension with the Jaguars

Associated Press JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) — Pro Bowl punter Logan Cooke has signed a four-year contract extension with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Cooke, a second-team All-Pro selection in 2024, was entering the final year of his second deal with the team. It had been unclear how Jacksonville's new regime would handle Cooke's contract situation. Jacksonville, which drafted Cooke in the seventh round in 2018, announced the extension Monday. Cooke established career highs with a gross putting average of 49.4 yards and a net punting average of 44.8 yards last season. He has a net punting average of 43.5 yards, the highest career mark in the NFL since the statistic began being tracked in 1976. His career gross punting average of 47.4 yards is the highest in franchise history and the sixth best in the NFL since 1939. Cooke also has placed 41.8% of his punts inside the 20-yard line, the highest mark by any punter in team history. ___ AP NFL: recommended in this topic
