L-G VK Saxena presents medals, cash prizes to traffic volunteers
: Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena on Monday presented medals and cash prizes worth Rs 6 lakh to Traffic Prahari volunteers who earned the highest reward points between September 2024 and February 2025 for reporting traffic violations, an official statement said.
He also felicitated five Delhi Traffic Police officials with trophies for their dedication and exemplary service.
Among them were DCP Traffic Headquarters Shashank Jaiswal, who saved a road crash victim by administering timely CPR, and Head Constable Satish Kumari, who assisted an injured person with prompt medical aid.
Addressing the volunteers, Saxena said, 'I am proud to felicitate these champions of Delhi who went beyond their daily routines to make the city safer. Their selfless efforts have helped promote discipline and road safety.'
He urged volunteers to continue leading by example and advised the Delhi Traffic Police to expand the app's capabilities to cover more serious violations. The Traffic Prahari Scheme, revamped in September 2024, encourages citizens to report traffic violations via a mobile app. A monthly reward system awards the top four contributors. Special CP (Traffic) Ajay Chaudhry noted that the app has over two lakh users.

Bike-borne miscreants loot gold chain, cash
Lucknow: Two motorcycle-borne miscreants looted a gold chain and Rs 10,000 in cash from two shop owners and assaulted them near Khargapur crossing in Vineet Khand-5, Gomtinagar, on Friday night. Sent to jail for rape, 60-yr-old found hanging
Kharagpur: Two days after a local court jailed him for rape, a 60-year-old man was found hanging at his home on Sunday. On Friday, a Kharagpur court jailed him for a year and two months and fined him Rs 10 lakh for raping his domestic help under the false pretext of marriage. Cops suspect suicide and have registered a case of unnatural death. Amit Kumar Raj was facing trial since 2018. On Tuesday, he was convicted and the court passed the sentence on Friday. According to police, Raj's family hasn't not lodged a complaint. 3 held for supplying active sim cards to cyber frauds
Varanasi: A joint team of Lalpur Pandeypur and Cyber Crime Cell police busted a gang of criminals supplying active SIM cards to cyber and other criminals. On Saturday, three members of the gang were arrested. Presenting the arrested SIM card sellers before reporters on Saturday evening, ADCP (Kashi zone/crime) T Saravanan said the joint team of police arrested Sunil Yadav of Azamgarh, who had been operating from Pandeypur, Shubham Agrahari alias Gopal of Nai Basti, Pandeypur, Neyaz Ahmed of Katehar Pili Kothi and Arun Tripathi of Hartirath area. Police recovered 71 SIM cards (60 inactive and 11 active), a biometric machine, four Android mobiles valued at Rs 1,00,000 and Rs 18,490 cash from the persons arrested. The telecom company involved has been instructed to revoke licence of the POS agent. ADCP said the criminals first targeted less educated individuals seeking to obtain or port SIM cards. They conducted double KYC (e-KYC and d-KYC) under pretence of network issues and created fake SIM in their name. The SIMs were then packaged and sent via courier or bus to cybercriminals in Delhi and other states, who used them for cyber fraud. Police registered a case against four persons under IPC Section 315(2),/111BNS 2023, and Section 66 of the IT Act. The arrested men were sent to jail following legal proceedings.
