Putrajaya PKR files report against Harakah over anti-Anwar rally
PUTRAJAYA : Putrajaya PKR has lodged a police report against PAS organ Harakah Daily over an allegedly seditious article that promotes a protest against Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.
At a press conference outside the district police headquarters, the division's deputy chief Shariff Jeev claimed the article contained seditious content that would incite Malaysians.
'We urge the police to investigate the article and the planned protests under Section 124B of the Penal Code (for committing an activity detrimental to parliamentary democracy) or any appropriate law,' he said.
When asked if he wanted the authorities to prevent the rally from going ahead, he said it should be allowed to proceed if it was held in an 'appropriate way'.
Shariff nonetheless claimed that the protest planned for July 26 could become a threat to the country's peaceful way of life and its parliamentary democracy.
'So far, 52 police reports have been lodged throughout the country, including in Sabah and Sarawak. Today alone six reports were filed', he added.
Putrajaya PKR information chief Hafiz Osman called for the protest to be held somewhere else instead of Dataran Merdeka to prevent it from 'spiralling out of control'.
'We do not want the protesters to provoke others. We hope the police will be able to cordon off the area.'
The rally organised by Perikatan Nasional aims to push for Anwar's resignation as prime minister.
Last week, over 300 rallied in Shah Alam for the same cause. The smaller rally was held to promote the Dataran Merdeka protest.

PETALING JAYA : Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) said today it had ordered hawkers in Desa Pandan to vacate a site in January, following a brief standoff between enforcement officers and a parang-wielding man yesterday. DBKL said it wanted the area on Jalan 2/76 cleared to carry out road works and upgrade facilities. In a statement, it said it had engaged and informed the stakeholders, including the hawkers and their associations, of its plans. The hawkers were officially told to vacate the site on Jan 15, it said, and a final notice was issued on July 4. 'Demolition work was to be carried out on July 15, but it was put on hold due to the commotion at the site,' it said. Police arrested a 43-year-old man after he brandished a parang at DBKL officers during an operation to demolish the illegal structures at Desa Pandan. The man is said to have confronted the officers at about 11.15am during the operation, which also involved the police, Tenaga Nasional Bhd, and Air Selangor. Wangsa Maju police chief Lazim Ismail had said the man shouted profanities at the officers before being calmed down by members of the public.

Rulers weigh national security, vape ban and top judicial picks at latest conference
KUALA LUMPUR, July 16 — Issues concerning national security, judicial appointments, and the proposed ban on vape were among the key topics discussed at the 269th Conference of Rulers meeting held at Istana Negara today. The Keeper of the Rulers' Seal, Tan Sri Syed Danial Syed Ahmad, in a statement, said the meeting was presided over by the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah. 'Today, the Conference received the latest briefings on national security from the Inspector-General of Police, Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail, and on national defence from the Chief of Defence Forces, General Tan Sri Mohd Nizam Jaffar,' he said. Syed Danial said that the meeting also deliberated on appointments of judges, including those to the Federal Court, Court of Appeal, and High Courts, as well as on appointments of the Chief Judges of Sabah and Sarawak High Courts, President of the Court of Appeal, and the Chief Justice of Malaysia. 'The Conference also took note of the proposal to impose a complete ban on the sale and use of vape or electronic cigarettes in the country. 'Also tabled at the meeting were legal opinions from the 126th and 127th Meetings of the National Council for Islamic Religious Affairs (MKI) Muzakarah Committee, along with resolutions from the 2025 Special Meeting of the Muzakarah Committee,' he said. Additionally, Syed Danial said the Conference was further briefed on the need for registration of marriages involving refugees and asylum seekers in Malaysia, as well as the Cabinet Paper regarding a centralised policy on the management of seized and forfeited assets. Present at the meeting were Raja of Perlis Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Jamalullail, Sultan of Perak Sultan Nazrin Shah, Sultan of Kedah Al-Aminul Karim Sultan Sallehuddin Sultan Badlishah and the Yang Dipertuan Besar Negeri Sembilan Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir. Also in attendance were Tengku Mahkota of Kelantan Tengku Muhammad Fakhry Petra, Tunku Temenggong Johor Tunku Idris Iskandar Sultan Ibrahim, and Tengku Arif Bendahara Pahang Tengku Muhammad Iskandar Ri'ayatuddin Shah. Governors Tun Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar of Sarawak, Tun Dr Mohd Ali Rustam (Melaka), Tun Musa Aman (Sabah) and Tun Ramli Ngah Talib (Penang) also attended the meeting. Nilai cops arrest woman for allegedly attacking boy, 11, at Mantin grocery store
SEREMBAN, July 16 — Police have arrested a 30-year-old woman for allegedly assaulting an 11-year-old boy at a grocery store in the Sri Palma Villa residential area in Mantin yesterday. Nilai district police chief Supt Abdul Malik Hasim said they received a report from a woman at 3.28pm, stating that her son had been assaulted and threatened by a woman known to them while at the grocery store. 'The incident was reported to have occurred around 12.30 pm yesterday, when the boy was buying a drink at the shop and was suddenly attacked by the suspect, who kicked and stomped on the victim's face and legs. 'The suspect is also alleged to have issued a death threat against the victim. The incident was captured on the store's closed-circuit television system and was also witnessed by a customer who was at the scene,' he said in a statement today. Abdul Malik said the suspect was arrested at 10.58pm yesterday, and preliminary investigations revealed she is a holder of a Person with Disability card and is believed to have mental health issues. He said the suspect was believed to have been hallucinating at the time of the incident and accused the boy of stealing items from the premises, although there was no evidence to support the claim. 'The victim received treatment at Tuanku Ja'afar Hospital in Seremban and was found to have swelling on his nose and bruises on several parts of his legs,' he said. The case is being investigated under Section 323 and Section 506 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt and criminal intimidation. — Bernama
