Plan to 'transform' Ascot approved despite parking concerns

'No-go area'
More than 500 people responded to a public consultation on the scheme, with many questioning its lack of parking provision.Jackie Tomlinson said: "Parking is critical to the lifeblood of this high street. If parking spaces are not properly allocated, I cannot see how the plan to regenerate the high street will succeed."It will become a no-go area for local people and the only people benefiting from its implementations would be those living in the new houses," she added.Another resident, Martin Richardson, questioned the removal of cycle lanes from the final proposal. "This isn't just disappointing, it's deeply problematic," he said. Responding to the concerns about parking, councillor Adam Bermange said the issue was "both a blessing and a curse"."We have got quite a lot of off-street parking available but nearly all of that is provided at the discretion of the Windsor authority and the Crown Estate," he saidMr Bermange, who is the cabinet member for planning, added that cycle lanes had been removed from the proposal following the public consultation.

First phase of Kendal Market Hall revamp complete
Initial works ahead of a multimillion-pound transformation of a historic market have been Market Hall closed for a revamp at the end of November and was initially expected to open in after Westmorland and Furness Council received extra government funding to carry out additional work on the building, the opening date was pushed back to Helen Chaffey said the preparation work, which included repairing walls, replacing the roof and installing solar panels, meant the council could now "crack on and create something really special". "This development will add to the town centre's identity as a great place where residents, workers and visitors alike can enjoy shopping, visiting and spending time."The hall will next have its gas-fired heating replaced with an air source heat pump system, while energy-efficient LED lighting and automated doors will also be installed. Funding the work The first stage of the refurbishment was funded by £840,126 from the government's UK Shared Prosperity remaining work will be paid for using £13.5m from the government's Levelling Up Fund, which was granted for the council's Heart of Kendal Project. The scheme is focused on regenerating Kendal Town Centre and improving the riverside work also includes "repurposing" Westmorland Shopping Centre to provide new education accommodation to create a third campus for Kendal sessions will take place in the coming months to get people's views on the new hall design. Elizabeth II's modified Range Rover for sale
Elizabeth II's personal Range Rover is up for auction. The car, which the former monarch used from 2006 until 2008, features her distinctive hood ornament of a labrador with a grouse in its mouth. The vehicle boasts a host of bespoke features that mark its former duties, including the side steps, mud flaps, a made-to-measure dog guard for Elizabeth II's beloved canine companions and enhanced internal wiring for security and communications. Rear grab handles, to assist with the late monarch's entry and exit of the vehicle, have since been removed. The Range Rover Supercharged, which was also used by Elizabeth II at the 2007 Royal Windsor Horse Show, is equipped with the Jaguar-derived 4.2-litre Supercharged V8. It is believed to be the only one ever owned by the Royal household, according to the Iconic Auctioneers auction house. The car has covered 120,000 miles and is backed by a documented service history. Its exterior is finished in Tonga Green, in line with the late Queen's favoured greens for her vehicles. It has Sand Oxford leather upholstery with extended Burr Walnut trim. Rob Hubbard, the managing director and principal auctioneer at Iconic Auctioneers, said: 'Vehicles with such distinguished provenance rarely enter the market, making this an exceptional opportunity for collectors and enthusiasts alike. 'Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II's personal Range Rover combines automotive excellence with an unmatched historical significance. We anticipate considerable interest in this vehicle, as has been the case with other Royal vehicles we have offered.' Iconic Auctioneers has estimated the vehicle to achieve between £50,000 and £70,000 when it is offered at the Silverstone Festival on Aug 23. Previously, the same auction house sold another one of the late Queen's Range Rovers for £132,750. The vehicle was only linked to the Royal household after an eagle-eyed car collector guessed who its previous owner may have been when he unearthed footage of Elizabeth II driving the vehicle at the 2005 Royal Windsor Horse Show. Many of the factory-ordered modifications were in line with the rest of her fleet, as seen in this newest sale. Charles Smalley, a car specialist at Iconic Auctioneers, previously explained that the vehicle it sold featured rear handles to 'help her get in and out of the vehicle, because apparently she hated anyone trying to give her a lift'. He added: 'And the dog guard in the back, so if the Corgis were in the back, that's still there. It was an extra, but the Queen would have had them in hers for carrying the dogs.'
