U'khand CM increases ex-gratia for Param Vir Chakra awardees by Rs 1 crore
Making the announcement on the eve of Kargil Vijay Diwas, Dhami said apart from this they will continue to get Rs 3 lakh as annual grant.
'The borders of our country are safe due to the valor, courage and sacrifice of our brave soldiers… The state government is committed to the welfare of the soldiers and their families and is constantly taking concrete and effective decisions to protect their interests," Dhami said.
It is the duty of every citizen to respect the valor, dedication and sacrifice of the soldiers, he said, describing Uttarakhand not only as Devbhoomi (land of gods), but also Veerbhoomi (land of the brave).
The hike in the ex gratia paid to Param Vir Chankra awardees fulfills a promise made by Dhami to soldiers at a Sainik Samman ceremony organised in Khatima on the occasion of his father late Subedar Sher Singh Dhami's death anniversary.
The chief minister also issued a separate message to salute the valor of the Indian Army and emotionally remember the sacrifice of those martyred in the Kargil war.
A large number of brave sons of Uttarakhand also sacrificed their lives to protect the country in that war, he said, adding that their sacrifice will continue to inspire the new generation. PTI ALM NB

Mithi river desilting case: ED conducts fresh searches in Mumbai
Mumbai: The Enforcement Directorate on Thursday conducted fresh searches in Mumbai as part of a money laundering probe linked to the alleged Rs 65 crore Mithi river desilting scam, official sources said. About eight premises of some contractors, who reportedly submitted 'false' MoUs to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) with regard to dumping of silt, are being covered in the city, the sources said. The ED earlier carried out raids in this case, including on the premises of actor Dino Morea, his brother Santino, certain contractors and companies apart from some BMC officials. The ED case stems from an FIR filed by the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Mumbai Police in May against 13 people, including contractors and civic officials, for an alleged Rs 65.54 crore scam in the tenders awarded from 2017-2023 for the desilting of Mithi river, which flows through Mumbai and acts as a stormwater drainage channel for the metro city. The Uddhav Thackeray-led undivided Shiv Sena controlled the cash-rich BMC from 1997 till the party's split in 2022. After the expiry of the general body in 2022, the civic body was controlled by the Maharashtra government, which was then headed by Eknath Shinde. Police alleged in their complaint that BMC officials tailored the tender for the desilting contract in such a way that it benefited a particular supplier of machinery, and the contractors reportedly generated fraudulent bills for transporting the sludge out of Mumbai. The EOW and ED earlier questioned Morea and his brother, apart from some others. Mumbai civic authorities planned the desilting of the river following the 2005 floods, which brought the city to a grinding halt.

Ex-YSRCP Minister Bought Gold Using Money From Liquor Scam: Nara Lokesh
Andhra Pradesh IT Minister Nara Lokesh on Thursday levelled serious allegations against former minister Peddireddy Ramachandra Reddy, alleging that gold worth ₹400 crore was purchased with money acquired through the state's multi-crore liquor scam by a firm linked to the latter. Mr Lokesh alleged that funds from Adan Distilleries were funnelled into a construction company owned by Mr Peddireddi called PLR Constructions. "Why would a liquor company buy Rs 400 crore worth of gold? Does it make any sense? Is that a raw material?" Mr Lokesh said at a press conference. The allegations come amidst an ongoing investigation by a Special Investigation Team (SIT) into the alleged Andhra Pradesh liquor scam, which reportedly occurred during the previous YSRCP government's tenure (2019-2024). The SIT has been conducting raids and has already seized significant amounts of cash, including ₹11 crore from a farmhouse in Hyderabad, believed to be linked to the scam. The probe suggests that distilleries paid large kickbacks for preferential treatment and contracts, causing substantial losses to the state. The investigation is also looking into a complex network of transactions through shell companies, with the alleged kickbacks amounting to thousands of crores. During the conference, Mr Lokesh "dared" Mr Reddy to deny the allegations. "Money came to Mr Peddireddi's company from Adan Distilleries. I am challenging Peddireddi Ramachandra Reddy. If he has the guts, let Peddireddi deny it," he said. The accusations are the latest in a series of exchanges between the two political leaders. The current government has been vocal about its intentions to hold the previous administration accountable for alleged corruption, and the SIT's investigation into the liquor scam is a key part of this effort. There was no immediate reaction from Mr Reddy on the allegations but earlier, he had dismissed Mr Lokesh's claims, calling them "foolish". The political fallout from these new claims is expected to escalate as the investigation continues.

Maharashtra Cabinet reshuffle: Manikrao Kokate, caught playing ‘rummy', loses agriculture ministry, gets new portfolio
Maharashtra minister and NCP MLA Manikrao Kokate was reportedly divested of the agriculture ministry and alloted new portfolios in a late-night cabinet reshuffle on Thursday. Kokate has been shifted from the agriculture ministry to the sports and youth welfare department. He will also be in charge of the minority development and Auqaf departments, accordign to a notification issued by the General Administration Department (GAD) on Thursday night. Dattatrey Bharne, the current sports minister, will be the new agriculture minister, as per the notification cited by new agency PTI. Both Kokate and Bharne are MLAs of the Ajit Pawar-led NCP. Bharne is MLA from Indapur in Pune district. Kokate, a legislator from Sinnar in Nashik district, found himself in hot water after a video of him playing an online rummy game on his mobile phone while sitting in the legislative council during the monsoon session was shared on social media by NCP (SP) leaders Rohit Pawar and Jitendra Awhad. Manikrao Kokate later claimed that it was a "solitaire game" and that he was only trying to skip a downloaded game on his mobile phone. "It is a solitaire game, not Rummy. Any of my colleagues must have downloaded it. I was trying to see what was happening in the lower house. I was not playing Rummy. The Opposition is trying to demean the government," Kokate said. "I don't even know what rummy is," he said. "Ten different types of ads come up on YouTube... You have to watch it for 30 seconds and you can't even skip it...," he said. Maharashtra minister Manikrao Kokate also claimed that selective footage had been shared on social media to defame him. "When the upper house of the state legislature was adjourned, I took out my mobile phone to check the business transacted in the lower house and was trying to open YouTube," he was quoted by news agency PTI as saying. "The downloaded game suddenly opened, and I was skipping it. It was a matter of just 5 to 10 seconds; why that part was not shown?" he said while responding to the criticism he was facing over the video. "The full video should come out. Only a short clip has been made viral. This is a ploy by the opposition, but their tactics will never succeed," Kokate was quoted by India Today as saying. He also courted controversy for allegedly equating farmers with beggars a few months ago. Earlier this year, Dhananjay Munde, another NCP leader, had to resign from the Devendra Fadnavis-led ministry after his close aide Walmik Karad was named as the prime accused in the Santosh Deshmukh murder case.
