Mandya district sets benchmark in successful implementation of Children's Gram Sabhas
The district secured first place in the State for organising Children's Gram Sabhas and seventh place for Women's Gram Sabhas.
This recognition highlights Mandya's efforts to empower women and children at the village level, said Zilla Panchayat CEO Nandini K.R. on Thursday.
As part of a summer camp initiative, 216 out of 233 Gram Panchayats (GPs) conducted Children's Gram Sabhas, involving more than 17,500 children in awareness-building activities focused on rights, responsibilities, and community involvement.
Similarly, 212 GPs organised Women's Gram Sabhas since March, achieving a 92% implementation rate. These forums encouraged women's participation in local governance and development planning.
On April 24, all 233 GPs celebrated National Panchayati Raj Day, hosting events to strengthen public engagement in rural governance.
A standout initiative came from Annooru GP in Maddur taluk, which entered the India Book of Records by organising a large-scale rangoli event on Panchayati Raj Day. The event, themed around women's empowerment, saw the participation from nearly all 1,544 households in the village, drawing 1,418 rangolis using natural colours.
Ms. Nandini praised the effort as a 'model of best practices' in community participation, adding that several other GPs in the district are now adopting similar approaches.

Officials told to put in efforts to ensure the overall development of Yadgir district
Deputy Commissioner Harshal Bhoyar has said that officers of all government departments in coordination with the general public should put in efforts to ensure the overall development of the district. He was addressing a programme in Yadgir on Wednesday. Mr. Bhoyar said that district has been chosen, among others across the nation, by the Union government to be developed under the Aspirational District Programme. 'The district has climbed to the sixth place and Wadagera taluk is in the fifth place in the index targeted by the Union government for development. However, officers should put in more efforts in coordination with the general public to develop the district further,' he said. He appreciated the officers for what they have achieved and distributed appreciation letters to them during the programme. Chief Executive Officer of the Zilla Panchayat Lavish Ordia said that the efforts being made by ASHAs, anganwadi workers, teachers and various other departments have helped achieve this. Superintendent of Police Pruthvik Shankar, Additional Deputy Commissioner Ramesh Kolar and others were present.

Panchayat Progress Index 2.0: GPs in Mandya told to achieve sustainable development goals
Mandya Zilla Panchayat CEO K.R. Nandini called upon elected representatives and officials of gram panchayats in the district to take a pledge to achieve sustainable development for the overall development, efficiency and progress of the gram panchayats. Speaking after inaugurating the Panchayat Progress Index 2.0 training workshop held at the Zilla Panchayat in Mandya on July 24, she said that gram panchayats should work towards becoming 'poverty-free', healthy, 'women-friendly', 'child-friendly', socially secure, and well-equipped with basic facilities by coordinating with various departments like agriculture, horticulture, health, and education. A gram panchayat is considered a model for others if it achieves the targets set in all nine areas under the Panchayat Progress Index. Every GP has to make efforts to achieve all nine parameters for setting an example to others, she suggested. The ZP CEO instructed all Panchayat Development Officers to seek the cooperation and support of all elected representatives in their jurisdiction, other departments, and the people towards achieving the goals. The workshop was organised to provide information on data entry for the Panchayat Progress Index 2.0. Assistant Director (Panchayat Raj) of Brahmavar taluk, Udupi district, and Jalendra Shetty, President of 14th Kadur Gram Panchayat had been invited to share their experience from their respective districts on achieving the goals. ZP Chief Planning Officer Dhanush, Deputy Secretary (Administration) Dhanaraj, Chief Accounts Officer Srinivas Nayak, President of the Federation of Gram Panchayat Elected Representatives Pradeep, Vice-President Suvarnavati, and members, district-level officers of various departments, executive officers of all taluk panchayats, Assistant Directors, PDOs and DEOs of selected gram panchayats were present.

ZP officer inspects Jal Jeevan Mission works in Yadgir
Chief Executive Officer of Zilla Panchayat Lavish Ordia visited several villages and inspected the works taken up under Jal Jeevan Mission and Jaladhare projects in the district recently. Following complaints of low-quality works, Mr. Ordia visited Dyamanal, Rajwal, Kadadarahal, Kamanatagi and Wadavat villages in Shorapur and Gurmitkal taluks. He directed the officers to replace damaged pipelines with new ones and asked them to ensure that potable water is supplied. Mr. Ordia suggested the officers maintain cleanliness in villages and also create awareness among people on this to prevent epidemics due to lack of cleanliness. Taluk Panchayat Executive Officer Basanna Nayak, Assistant Executive Engineer of Rural Drinking Water Supply Department Hanumantharayagouda Patil and others were present.
