FASTag made mandatory for vehicles entering Tirumala from Aug 15
Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams
(TTD) has made FASTag, a radio frequency identification technology-based system for e-toll collection in the prepaid digital format, mandatory for all vehicles entering Tirumala through the Alipiri tollgate from Aug 15.
The temple trust said the decision was taken to provide better safety standards, prevent overcrowding, and offer transparent services to devotees arriving in own or rented vehicles at the Alipiri check point. A FASTag issuance kiosk has been set up at the Alipiri check point for those who do not have FASTag on their vehicles.
TTD's vigilance and security wing clarified that the security frisking mechanisms in place at Alipiri tollgate will remain as they are irrespective of the mode of toll collection.
While there are twin pedestrian routes leading to Tirumala, Alipiri happens to be the only gateway to Tirumala as far as vehicular traffic is concerned. TTD collects two-way toll fees from vehicles plying along the twin ghat roads.
With close to 8,000 vehicles entering Tirumala through the Alipiri tollgate during normal days and around 12,000-15,000 vehicles heading to the hill shrine during weekends, holidays, and important festive occasions, manual collection of toll fees at Alipiri often leads to traffic jams.
Devotees have welcomed the move to facilitate digital payments through FASTag, which will enable faster collection of toll fees without manual intervention and lead to a hassle-free passage following the security frisking at Alipiri tollgate.

You Can Now Buy Rs 3,000 FASTag Annual Pass: Eligibility, Benefits Explained
The annual highway toll pass for private cars, jeeps and vans was rolled out on Friday. A day earlier, the Union Government opened the pre-booking window for FASTag-based annual passes that will use Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology to automatically deduct toll charges from a prepaid account linked to the vehicle. Here is everything you need to know about the annual passes, its procurement and services: What is the FASTag annual pass? It is a prepaid pass applicable only for non-commercial private vehicles such as cars, jeeps, and vans. It will allow seamless travel across National Highways without the need for repeated recharging of FASTag cards for toll payments. Where can you use the annual pass? It will be valid only at National Highway (NH) and National Expressway (NE) fee plazas. If the highway or expressway is state or private, then you will not be able to obtain free entry with the annual FASTag pass. Where to buy the pass from? A dedicated link for activation of the annual pass is available on the Rajmarg Yatra app. The link would also be available on the official websites of National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH). How will the pass get activated? To activate the pass, you will have to verify your vehicle and FASTag. After this, you have to pay Rs 3,000. It will be activated in two hours after the payment, and then the pass can be used for a year. At fee plazas on Expressways, State Highways (SH) managed by state governments or local bodies, the FASTag will operate as a regular one, and applicable user fee charges may apply. Will existing users have to buy a new FASTag? According to the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, those who already have a FASTag on their vehicles will not need to purchase a new FASTag. This pass will be activated on your existing one. However, KYC of the FASTag is a must to obtain the annual pass. How many trips can you make using the annual pass? The FASTag annual pass will remain valid for a year or will permit 200 trips. After the completion of one year or 200 trips, it will start working as it used to do earlier. In closed tolling highways such as Delhi-Mumbai Expressway - where toll collection occurs exclusively at exit points - a single trip includes both entry and exit points. On the other hand, on open tolling routes like Delhi-Chandigarh, each toll plaza crossing would constitute a separate trip. Who is not eligible for the pass? You will not be able to obtain the pass if your FASTag is registered using the chassis number. For this, you will have to update the Vehicle Registration Number (VRN). Also, the mobile number should be updated. What are the benefits of purchasing an annual pass? One can save Rs 5,000 to Rs 7,000 in toll tax. Besides, one will not have to worry of running out of recharge in the middle of a trip. Can the annual FASTag pass be transferred to another vehicle? No. Doing so may get your pass blacklisted.

New FASTag Annual Pass Launched At Just Rs 3000 - Eligibility And Other Key Details
New Delhi: The central government has launched a new FASTag Annual Pass for private vehicles today, on the occasion of the 79th Independence Day. This new pass, priced at Rs. 3,000, is available for private cars, jeeps, and vans, and can be used at toll plazas on National highways and expressways operated by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH). Toll plazas on state highways are not included unless they are integrated into the central FASTag system. The pass is valid for one year from activation date or until the user completes 200 toll trips, whichever comes first. Once the trip limit is reached, the FASTag automatically switches to its regular pay-per-trip functionality. At point-based toll plazas, each one-way journey counts as a single trip, while a return journey is considered two trips. For closed or ticketed systems, one full trip from entry to exit is counted as one trip. Notably, this FASTag Annual Pass is exclusively for non-commercial private vehicles such as cars, jeeps, and vans that are registered for personal use. To buy the annual pass, vehicle owners must have an active FASTag with their vehicle's registration number. The pass can be bought through the Rajmarg Yatra mobile app, the official websites of NHAI or MoRTH, or portals of authorized FASTag issuers. The Rs 3,000 payment can be made using UPI, debit/credit cards, or net banking, but not through your FASTag wallet balance. Activation typically takes up to two hours and is confirmed via SMS. Owners of new vehicles may have a FASTag that is only linked to the chassis number, not the full registration number. In such cases, the FASTag must be updated with the complete vehicle registration number before the annual pass can be activated. With the average passenger vehicle toll costing around Rs 50, the 200 trips would normally cost approximately Rs 10,000. The new annual pass limits this cost at Rs 3,000, which saves about Rs 7,000.
