Where did LSU ace Kade Anderson go in USA TODAY Sports' recent mock draft?

Where did LSU ace Kade Anderson go in USA TODAY Sports' recent mock draft? Ahead of the College World Series, LSU baseball star Kade Anderson continues to receive hype in MLB mock drafts. USA TODAY Sports released a mock earlier this week, slotting Anderson to the St. Louis Cardinals with the No. 5 pick. Anderson is emerging as a consensus top-five pick, with some mocks even putting the LSU starter at No. 1. "The Cardinals are almost guaranteed to get one of the elite college lefties and in this universe, it's Anderson, who has sparred with Doyle for the NCAA strikeout lead all year and will take his 163 punchouts in 103 innings into at least one more start, in Omaha," wrote USA TODAY's Gabe Lacques. Anderson worked as a reliever as a true freshman in 2024, but took over LSU's ace role in 2025. He's thrown 103 innings and owns a 3.76 ERA. In his last appearance vs. West Virginia in the super regional, the Mountaineers tagged Anderson for some runs, but the LSU ace made it through seven innings. LSU will begin its 2025 College World Series on Saturday vs. Arkansas. Anderson is likely to get the nod. If LSU wants an eighth national title, it needs Anderson to be dynamite in Omaha.

LSU football QB Garrett Nussmeier makes appearance at New Orleans Saints minicamp

LSU football QB Garrett Nussmeier makes appearance at New Orleans Saints minicamp LSU football quarterback Garrett Nussmeier appeared at the New Orleans Saints minicamp this week. As Nussmeier prepares to begin his fifth year at LSU, Nussmeier's Dad, Doug Nussmeier, is getting ready for year one as the Saints' offensive coordinator. Nussmeier worked alongside new Saints head coach Kellen Moore in Philadelphia. Moore intends to call the plays, but tabbing a familiar face in Nussmeier to administer the offense made perfect sense. While at the camp, Nussmeier was seen talking to Moore. He also took time to sign autographs. There's already speculation about Nussmeier being an option for the Saints in the 2026 NFL Draft. Nussmeier is expected to be one of the top QBs on the board, and the Saints are projected to have one of the top picks. The Saints picked QB Tyler Shough in the 2025 draft, but there are questions about his long-term viability as the Saints' starter. Nussmeier was one of the best quarterbacks in the country as LSU finished the season on a three-game win streak. According to BetMGM, Nussmeier ranks No. 2 on the Heisman Trophy odds board, only trailing Texas QB Arch Manning. 2024 was Nussmeier's first season as LSU's full-time starter. In four years at LSU, Nussmeier has 5,772 yards and 40 touchdowns.

Will Arch Manning live up to the hype? LSU's Brian Kelly weighs in

Will Arch Manning live up to the hype? LSU's Brian Kelly weighs in The question is, will Arch Manning live up to the hype? Brian Kelly weighs in. As the Texas Longhorns prepare for their inaugural season in the Southeastern Conference, the spotlight on quarterback Arch Manning continues to intensify. However, LSU Tigers head coach Brian Kelly is urging caution before crowning Manning among the SEC's elite, instead highlighting the proven experience of his own quarterback, Garrett Nussmeier. During a recent appearance on ESPN's College GameDay Podcast, Kelly acknowledged Manning's record and talent but emphasized the challenges that come with playing quarterback in the SEC. 'Look, we hear it every day because [Manning is] from Louisiana. … And listen, there's another guy that hears it all the time and that's Garrett Nussmeier,' Kelly said. 'He's committed, and more than anything else, he's experienced. And in this league, you need to see the bullets flying.' Kelly praised Manning's potential but stressed the importance of on-field production and resilience. 'Now, Manning is extremely talented. But he's got to go do it. And there's going to be a couple of days where it doesn't come out the way it's supposed to,' Kelly continued. 'How do you bounce back, how do you come back from that? How does it work the next week in your gameplan? So there's a lot out there. I can see the assessment of Manning, he's an outstanding player. But I'll take the guy that's been in the SEC and seen what it looks like.' Both Manning and Nussmeier are expected to be among the top quarterbacks in the SEC this season, alongside South Carolina's LaNorris Sellers and Florida's DJ Lagway. Manning, who started two games in 2024, finished the year with 939 passing yards, nine touchdowns, two interceptions, and added 108 rushing yards with four scores on the ground. Nussmeier, meanwhile, posted career-best numbers with 4,052 passing yards, 29 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions. Texas and LSU are not scheduled to meet in the regular season in 2025 -- the two will eventually meet when the SEC schedule for 2026 and 2027 are revealed, with both teams guaranteed to play each other at home respectively. If rumors are true, it's likely Arch Manning will still be at the helm of the Longhorns in 2026, choosing an additional year of experience at the college level over a potential NFL Draft early scenario.
