Odisha govt orders districts to ban fuel sale in plastic bottles
The government has asked the petrol bunks to display the message prominently in both Odia and English. The district collectors have been directed to instruct field officers including civil supplies inspectors, enforcement squads, police, tehsildars and other personnel to conduct spot checks and surprise inspections at retail outlets, fuel stations and suspected retail points, and initiate immediate action against violators found supplying petroleum in plastic or any other unauthorised packaging.
The directive of the state government imposing ban on sale of inflammable substances came in wake of the self-immolation of a 20-year-old girl student at FM Autonomous College in Balasore.

Family members said he had recently returned to Greater Noida after visiting Bihar in May. He is survived by his parents and a younger sister. Sharda University, however, clarified that the victim was no longer enrolled. 'He was not part of the university for the past two years. After failing to clear his second year, he got a year back but did not apply for readmission. We had emailed him to either rejoin or formally withdraw, but received no response. Since he was not registered, the question of fees does not arise," said Dr Ajit Kumar, Director (Public Relations). This is the second suicide case linked to Sharda University in less than two months. 8 Delhi cops suspended after security lapses during Janmashtami at ISKCON temple

Security around temples and religious places was intensified across the city as large gatherings were expected, a senior police officer said. "During his inspection, the commissioner noticed that at one of the crucial points in the temple premises, no security personnel were deployed. This raised serious concerns regarding the overall preparedness and vigilance of the staff on duty," the officer said. The police chief immediately directed stern action, ordering the suspension of eight personnel for dereliction of duty. He also issued a strict warning to the station house officer of Shahbad Dairy police station, under whose jurisdiction part of the deployment fell. Officials said the suspended personnel include inspectors and sub-inspectors who had been assigned to oversee the temple security arrangements. Their absence from designated points was viewed as a grave lapse, especially given the heightened security advisories for Janmashtami. Senior officials added that the commissioner has asked all district police commissioners to personally monitor arrangements at sensitive religious sites and ensure that personnel remain alert and visible. Singh has said that any negligence in security, particularly during major festivals, will not be tolerated. The Delhi Police has been on high alert across the capital since last week, with security stepped up at temples, marketplaces, transport hubs and other crowded areas to prevent any untoward incident during the festive period. Meanwhile, additional personnel have been deployed at the ISKCON temple to manage the heavy footfall of devotees, and senior officers are supervising the situation on the ground, officials said.

(ANI) According to a Delhi Police spokesperson, the commissioner congratulated officers and staff for ensuring incident-free security arrangements on Independence Day and said, 'Despite working so hard, even beyond working hours, we have not been able to win the trust of the public in the form that we should have done.' Drawing from the Prime Minister's speech, Singh outlined three areas of focus for the force — self-reliance, technology adoption and healthy competition — and gave timelines to come up with a proposal. The commissioner asked units to submit proposals within 15 days on reducing dependence on other agencies for specialised resources such as commandos, bomb disposal squads and wireless systems. He also said that the force needs to 'go further' in surveillance, cybercrime prevention, anti-drone defence and counter-terror operations. He directed technology units to form committees and submit recommendations within a month. Singh stressed on the need to cultivate healthy competition within the force while discarding jealousy, at both the individual and organisational levels. Singh also congratulated 18 Delhi Police personnel who were conferred police medals for distinguished and meritorious service on Independence Day. Meanwhile, eight Delhi Police personnel, including an inspector, were suspended on Saturday after a surprise inspection by Singh found that they were absent from duty outside an ISKCON temple in Shahbad Dairy. Officials said Singh was reviewing Janmashtami security arrangements across the city when he noticed that officers posted at Gate No. 2 of the temple were missing. A senior police officer confirmed the suspensions and said a departmental inquiry has been initiated to ascertain if more personnel were absent. The suspended staff range from constables to inspector-rank officers, the officer added, stressing that strict action has been ordered.
