ASEAN Summit: Rapid KL To Extend Peak Hours Operation
KUALA LUMPUR, May 20 (Bernama) -- Rapid KL will extend its rail operating hours during morning and evening peak hours from May 23 to 27 in conjunction with the 46th ASEAN Summit to be held in Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya.
According to a statement by Prasarana Malaysia Berhad (Prasarana) today, peak hours on weekdays will be extended by one hour, from 6.30 am to 10 am and 4.30 pm to 8 pm, compared to the normal peak hours, which start from 7 am to 9.30 am and 5 pm to 7.30 pm.
Prasarana announced that the frequency of train operations on weekends, particularly on May 24 and 25, 2025, will be increased to accommodate the expected increase in passengers during the conference.
According to the statement, Rapid KL will also enhance monitoring and operational control to ensure the smooth running of public transport services during the summit.
'If there is an increase in passengers, Rapid KL is prepared to increase the number of trains.
'A total of 400 additional staff have also been deployed at selected rail stations to help smooth the movement of passengers and ASEAN delegations using public transport services,' the statement said.
For bus service operations and Rapid KL On-Demand, Prasarana said several routes are expected to experience schedule delays following the gradual road closures by the authorities throughout the period.
Among the routes involved are Route 402 (LRT Titiwangsa – LRT Maluri), Route 302 (LRT Titiwangsa – KLCC), Route 300 (Pandan Indah Hub – Lebuh Ampang), Route 303 (Taman Mulia Jaya – Lebuh Ampang), Rapid KL On-Demand (Titiwangsa – Chow Kit Zone).
'Bus users who wish to go to KLCC and surrounding areas are advised to use rail services to avoid traffic congestion,' the statement said.

AirAsia Move unveils new travel strategy
BANGKOK: AirAsia Move, which is owned by Capital A Bhd, plans to reshape the travel experience across Asean through bold, forward-thinking strategies that go well beyond traditional booking platforms. Chief executive officer Nadia Omer shared that the company is consistently enhancing its travel app by deepening customer engagement, strengthening regional collaborations, and offering unique, curated experiences tailored to the needs of today's discerning travellers. With domestic and intra-Asean travel on the rise, she noted that AirAsia Move is also championing staycations and affordable regional getaways to meet the evolving preferences of modern explorers. "We're focused on expanding travel opportunities within Thailand, Malaysia and throughout Asean. This year we are seeing a lot of growth in domestic travel and we are promoting staycation as an occasion. "With inter-Asean travel steadily increasing, we are creating affordable shorter vacations and easy-on-the-pocket bundles," she told reporters, after launching AirAsia Move's new tagline 'Travel More for Less' and unveiling a symbolic aircraft livery at the Don Mueang Maintenance Centre in Thailand on Wednesday. Nadia also noted that the company is exploring partnerships to tap into the growing intersection between travel and entertainment. "We're seeing concerts becoming a major travel driver and we're working on partnerships to bundle concert tickets with flights and hotel stays," she said. Nadia said AirAsia Move is partnering with organisations such as Asean Tourism Association and will launch a dedicated travel guide for Asean tourists soon. "It will serve as a one-stop platform for information such as must-visit destinations and visa requirements while also inspiring visitors to discover the hidden gems scattered across Asean," she added. Nadia said the company aspires to become the most loved travel app in Asean within five years by meeting unmet customer needs and creating memorable experiences. "We have a big task ahead, not just to satisfy our customers but to truly delight them and address their needs. It's a challenge for me and my team, but we're ready for it as we want to earn a place in customers' hearts," she said. On the new tagline, Nadia said the initiative underscores AirAsia Move's deepening commitment to Thailand as a core market and reinforces its vision of making travel more affordable and inclusive for all. She noted that Thailand was chosen as the starting point for the new tagline, given its vibrant appeal and strategic role as a major travel hub in the region. "Travellers today want more than just flights. They want flexibility, simplicity and value. And that's exactly what Move is built to deliver – travelling more for less."

China Announces ‘ASEAN Visa' To Facilitate Travel With Southeast Asia
China has announced the implementation of an 'ASEAN visa' aimed at citizens from the 10 ASEAN member states as well as Timor-Leste, an ASEAN observer, in a move to ease travel and exchanges between China and Southeast Asia. The announcement was made by Lin Jian, spokesperson for China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, during a press conference held on Tuesday. Lin explained that the initiative seeks to simplify cross-border travel in the region, complementing existing visa exemptions China has with countries such as Singapore, Thailand, and Malaysia. It also adds to the 'Lancang-Mekong visa' programme offered to tourists from countries in the Mekong River basin. 'The construction of a China-ASEAN community with a shared future is being strengthened, and joint efforts to build 'a safe, peaceful, prosperous, beautiful and friendly home' have shown results over recent years,' Lin said. He added that exchanges and visits between the people of China and Southeast Asian countries are very close, and further facilitation of such exchanges is a shared aspiration among all parties. The new 'ASEAN visa' will offer eligible applicants a multiple-entry visa valid for five years for business visit purposes to China. The visa will also cover spouses and children of the applicants, allowing a maximum stay of up to 180 days per entry. Related

Zahid announces joint committee to boost Malaysian franchises in UK
LONDON: A joint committee between Malaysian and United Kingdom (UK) franchise business associations will be established to strengthen Malaysia's franchise ecosystem in the UK, said Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi. The Rural and Regional Development Minister said the initiative would serve as a support platform to help Malaysian franchise brands penetrate the UK market by next year. "There are plenty of opportunities for Malaysian companies to expand their franchise businesses in the UK, especially in halal-related sectors such as food, traditional medicine and cosmetics. "I will chair the Cabinet committee on franchises. I will obtain reports on the progress that can be made promptly, and I will review the achievements every six months when I chair this Cabinet committee twice a year," he told a press conference here Tuesday. Earlier, he attended the Malaysia-UK Franchise Business Dialogue, held in conjunction with his four-day working visit to the UK. Zahid added that Malaysia is also committed to supporting the franchise ecosystem through financing policies by the Majlis Amanah Rakyat (Mara) and digital grants from the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC), to achieve RM100 billion in sales by 2030. He said closer cooperation would be pursued to encourage UK franchises to explore the Asean market via Malaysia, while at the same time promoting the expansion of Malaysian brands into the UK market through the proposed committee. – BERNAMA
