Man dies after falling onto LRT tracks in KL, rail services disrupted

PHOTO: SELANGOR FIRE AND RESCUE DEPARTMENT A man died after he was believed to have fallen onto the railway tracks at a Light Rail Transit (LRT) station in Kuala Lumpur and was struck by a train on the evening of June 3. Sin Chew Daily said the man was from Kaohsiung, Taiwan, according to his passport details. The incident, which happened at Pusat Bandar Puchong station, also disrupted LRT services at three other stations, reported New Straits Times. Selangor Fire and Rescue Department assistant director of operations Ahmad Mukhlis Mukhtar said on June 3 that when its team arrived at the scene, the man was found unresponsive on the tracks under an LRT train and presumed him to be dead. Shuttle bus services and alternative train services were activated by rail operator Rapid KL for affected commuters during the evening peak hours. In a Facebook update close to 9pm, Rapid KL said rescue work was over and all alternative services were discontinued. In February, a visually impaired man was killed after accidentally falling onto the tracks at Kuala Lumpur's Titiwangsa LRT station and getting run over by a train. In 2018, a man died at the same Puchong station where the latest incident happened when he descended onto the tracks and got hit by an oncoming train. Taiwanese man dies after falling onto LRT tracks

(JBPM pics) PETALING JAYA : A Taiwanese man died today when he was run over by a train after falling onto the tracks at the Pusat Bandar Puchong LRT station. The Selangor fire and rescue department said the victim was in his 60s and that efforts to extricate the deceased were ongoing. The department spokesman added that the man had fallen onto the tracks. FMT has reached out to police for further information on the incident. Separately, rail operator Rapid KL confirmed the incident at the station along the Sri Petaling LRT line and said services have been suspended at the Bandar Puteri, Taman Perindustrian Puchong, Pusat Bandar Puchong and IOI Puchong Jaya stations. Bus services have been activated as an alternative for passengers. Rapid KL also said trains coming from the Putra Heights station would turn back at the Puchong Perdana station. Meanwhile, trains arriving from the Sentul Timur station will turn back at the Kinrara BK5 station. In February, a blind elderly man died when he was struck by a train after losing balance and falling onto the tracks at the Titiwangsa LRT station. Prasarana Malaysia Bhd later said it planned to install platform sensors at LRT stations to enhance passenger safety, particularly for people with disabilities. Prasarana also said then that it would begin installing platform screen doors at LRT stations, similar to those used in MRT stations.

ASEAN Summit: Rapid KL to extend peak hours operation
KUALA LUMPUR: Rapid KL will extend its rail operating hours during morning and evening peak hours from May 23 to 27 in conjunction with the 46th ASEAN Summit to be held in Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya. According to a statement by Prasarana Malaysia Berhad (Prasarana) today, peak hours on weekdays will be extended by one hour, from 6.30 am to 10 am and 4.30 pm to 8 pm, compared to the normal peak hours, which start from 7 am to 9.30 am and 5 pm to 7.30 pm. Prasarana announced that the frequency of train operations on weekends, particularly on May 24 and 25, 2025, will be increased to accommodate the expected increase in passengers during the conference. According to the statement, Rapid KL will also enhance monitoring and operational control to ensure the smooth running of public transport services during the summit. 'If there is an increase in passengers, Rapid KL is prepared to increase the number of trains. 'A total of 400 additional staff have also been deployed at selected rail stations to help smooth the movement of passengers and ASEAN delegations using public transport services,' the statement said. For bus service operations and Rapid KL On-Demand, Prasarana said several routes are expected to experience schedule delays following the gradual road closures by the authorities throughout the period. Among the routes involved are Route 402 (LRT Titiwangsa – LRT Maluri), Route 302 (LRT Titiwangsa – KLCC), Route 300 (Pandan Indah Hub – Lebuh Ampang), Route 303 (Taman Mulia Jaya – Lebuh Ampang), Rapid KL On-Demand (Titiwangsa – Chow Kit Zone). 'Bus users who wish to go to KLCC and surrounding areas are advised to use rail services to avoid traffic congestion,' the statement said. Prasarana advises passengers to plan their journeys in advance, monitor the latest notifications via Rapid KL's official social media or download the PULSE app, and consider using alternatives such as rail services to avoid any inconvenience.

KUALA LUMPUR: Rapid KL will extend its peak-hour rail operations in conjunction with the 46th Asean Summit, which will be held in Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya from May 23 to 27.
