Celtics' first-round pick named NBA Summer League disappointment
The Celtics' third-year guard Jordan Walsh was the team's standout for the Summer League, as his performance this year made him Boston's all-time Summer League scorer.
This summer wasn't as productive for the Celtics' lone first-round pick in 2025, Hugo Gonzalez.
Gonzalez was Boston's No. 28 pick in the 2025 NBA Draft out of Real Madrid. At just 19 years old, Gonzalez began playing professional basketball overseas at just 16 years old.
He was most productive for Real Madrid in Liga ACB, playing in 29 games and averaging 5.2 points, 2.5 rebounds, while shooting 56.5% from the field in 14.2 minutes per game.
His first Summer League in the NBA, however, was less impressive, according toThe Athletic's John Hollinger.
"The questions about his skill level didn't exactly vanish with his play in Vegas. Gonzalez repeatedly lost his handle, including one notable turnover when he took a single dribble from a standstill and simultaneously had the ball picked and committed a clear path foul. He finished summer league with as many turnovers (13) as baskets and, in addition to shaky perimeter shooting, only shot 6 of 20 inside the arc," Hollinger said in an article.
As a taller guard, Gonzales came into the NBA pre-draft process as a player who thrives in pick-and-roll situations, but his shooting ability from behind the three-point line (27.1% for Real Madrid last season) and habits of making passes off of one foot were labeled as problems for the 6-foot-6, 205-pound guard.

Boston Celtics jersey history No. 28 - Jim Barnes (1968-70)
The Boston Celtics have had players suiting up in a total of 68 different jersey numbers (and have three others not part of any numerical series) since their founding at the dawn of the Basketball Association of America (BAA -- the league that would become today's NBA), worn by well over 500 players in the course of Celtics history. To commemorate the players who wore those numbers, Celtics Wire is covering the entire history of jersey numbers and the players who sported them since the founding of the team. With 25 of those jerseys now retired to honor some of the greatest Celtics to wear those jerseys, there is a lot of history to cover. And for today's article, we will continue with the third of 14 people to wear the No. 28, Boston big man alum Jim Barnes. After ending his college career at Texas-El Paso, Barnes was picked up with the first overall selection of the 1964 NBA Draft by the New York Knicks. The Tuckerman, Arkansas native also played for the (then) Baltimore Bullets (now, Washington Wizards), Los Angeles Lakers, and Chicago Bulls before his contract was sold to Boston in 1968. His stay with the team would span parts of two seasons, coming to an end when he was dealt again, this time to Baltimore again in 1970. During his time suiting up for the Celtics, Barnes wore only jersey No. 28 and put up 5.6 points and 4.3 rebounds per game. All stats and data courtesy of Basketball Reference.

Official: Real Madrid midfielder completes loan move to Getafe
Real Madrid have officially announced that midfielder Mario Martin has joined Getafe on a season-long loan deal, which will run until June 30, 2026. The move had been widely expected in recent days, but it was only confirmed on Tuesday morning through a joint statement released by both clubs across their social media platforms. 'Real Madrid CF and Getafe CF have agreed to sign Mario Martin on loan for this season, until June 30, 2026,' the official statement read. The 21-year-old, a product of Real Madrid's famed youth system, was a standout performer at Castilla, where he eventually wore the captain's armband. His leadership and consistency at the reserve level earned him a call-up to the Real Madrid first team during the 2023/24 season. Following that milestone, Martin spent the season with Real Valladolid in La Liga, making 30 appearances in the top flight and featuring twice in the Copa del Rey. Martin chooses continuity over big offers Mario Martin has compelted his loan move to Getafe. (Photo by Florencia) Despite attracting strong interest this summer, Mario Martin remained focused on his future at Real Madrid. He prioritised his development and stayed committed to the club during the FIFA Club World Cup. As such, several teams approached the young midfielder, including Brazilian side Botafogo, where Davide Ancelotti, former assistant to Carlo Ancelotti, pushed for his signing. However, that move ultimately fell through. Getafe, however, had maintained steady interest from the start of the window. Their persistence has now paid off. Martin will aim to continue his growth at the top level in Spain and gain valuable experience with a club that has shown confidence in his potential. The midfielder is also a Spanish under-19 international, having earned seven caps so far. With this loan spell, he has the chance to build on that international experience and return to Madrid as a more complete player.

Sean Payton: Dre Greenlaw plays like Mike Tyson
Linebacker Dre Greenlaw made the most of the first day in pads at Broncos training camp. Greenlaw filled gaps and delivered hits throughout team drills in Denver and head coach Sean Payton said you didn't even have to be watching to know that Greenlaw was the one landing blows. Payton said "you can hear it" when Greenlaw makes a hit and then went on to compare his style to another knockout artist from a different sport. "He plays like Mike Tyson," Payton said, via the team's website. "He's tough, he's physical. He's built that way. There's not a lot of leaky yardage. Some guys [allow that]. He's a knock-back tackler. They stop where he hits them. There's an intensity to how he plays. He's one of those players that if you put the film on and didn't say anything, at some point early, you'd ask, 'Who is this guy?'" Greenlaw was limited to two games for the 49ers last year because of injuries and a quad injury interrupted his first offseason in Denver, so one key for the Broncos will be making sure Greenlaw's healthy enough to deploy that physicality on a regular basis. If he is, facing an already tough Broncos defense will be even less enjoyable for opposing offenses in 2025.
