
Samruddhi may divert toll from older state highways
While this may boost one-time revenue collections and encourage more frequent long-distance travel, it is also expected to reduce ongoing toll income on national highways under the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). The scheme will not apply to major state highways like Mumbai-Pune Expressway or Samruddhi Mahamarg, which are managed by state agencies.
A senior state official said the Samruddhi corridor has opened up access to tourist attractions in Vidarbha and industrial zones, spurring increased travel across the region.
Besides Mumbai-Pune Expressway and Samruddhi —the state's top two toll-generating highways—other major revenue-earning highways in the state include: Pune-Satara-Kagal Highway (Pune-Bangalore stretch), Old Mumbai-Nashik Highway, and Mumbai-Ahmedabad (Maharashtra section) Highway.
Samruddhi may divert traffic —and toll revenue —from the older Mumbai-Nashik highway, thanks to its superior speed and efficiency, despite slightly higher toll charges. Goa highway remains Maharashtra's most delayed four-laning project. Due to incomplete expansion and public opposition in Konkan, no toll is currently being collected on this route.

Hospitality startup Elivaas raises $10.4 million in funding round led by Vertex Ventures
ETtech (L-R), Karan Miglani and Ritwik Khara, cofounders, Elivaas Elivaas, a luxury vacation rental company, has raised about $10.4 million (Rs 87 crore) in a funding round led by Vertex Ventures Southeast Asia and India. The round also saw participation from existing investors, Peak XV Partners' accelerator programme for early-stage startups Surge, and venture firm 3one4 Capital. Elivaas founder and chief executive Ritwik Khare told ET that the company will use the funds to further penetrate the Indian market, expand its presence globally, and enhance its brand visibility. 'We are currently present in about 510 properties across the country, spread across 30 locations in eight states. We cover North India, West India, Goa, and South India. We are not yet in the east or northeast, but expanding into these regions is part of the company's plans for next year,' said in 2023 by Khare and Karan Miglani, Gurugram-based Elivaas operates a management platform for villas and luxury apartments, enabling homeowners to monetise, oversee, and maintain their properties. According to Khare, it plans to expand to key destinations such as the UAE, Sri Lanka, Bangkok, and Bali, followed by other parts of Southeast Asia. The company operates with two primary segments: personal and business use cases. Personal use accounts for roughly 65-70% of the business, while the newer business use segment currently makes up around 30%.'The sheer volume of real estate being constructed in leisure cities indicates that this market will be worth at least $20 billion by 2030-2032, according to our estimates,' Khare said. The company also plans to invest in technology to drive its next phase of growth and enhance operational efficiency.'For us, technology is at the centre of everything we do. Araku Valley ‘Jungle Bells' gets makeover with German tents
Visakhapatnam: In an attempt to attract tourists for the upcoming tourism season, the state tourism department is implementing 'Jungle Bells', an eco-tourism project at Tyda on the way to Araku Valley, with new attractions — German tents in place of wooden cottages. These wooden cottages were constructed 24 years ago in Tyda village, a hamlet on the Visakhapatnam-Araku road, 75 km from the port city in the combined Andhra Pradesh, to allow visitors to stay within the dense and green nature of the Eastern Ghats region. The first eco-tourism project in the state featured beautiful wood log cottages of different types, which gave tourists a new experience all these years. However, most of them were damaged in recent years, and the authorities are now replacing them with new technology. The German tents, often referred to as German hangar tents, are large, temporary structures typically used for events, exhibitions, and other purposes. These tents are characterised by their sturdy, often aluminium, frames and durable, waterproof fabric covers, which are also UV resistant. They can be customised in size and shape, making them adaptable to various event and accommodation needs. However, a few of them were recently damaged, and the department is replacing them with German tents. The govt allocated Rs 7.5 crore for the new attraction and the construction of tents at a fast pace. Sources said there are 23 wooden cottages in Tyda. The authorities will keep four old cottages and two new cottages along with the 17 tents on the 17 wooden cottages. So far, authorities constructed 14 tents at Rs 13 lakh each. Bengaluru Metro's Yellow Line brings cheer to techies wrestling road traffic to Electronics City
Bengaluru: For the city's traffic-weary commuters, particularly those in the tech hubs, this was a Monday morning with a difference. There was a different kind of a rush, and the buzz in the air was unmistakable. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now No, for a change, the rush and the buzz were not on or about road traffic, but on the platforms. The platforms at stations on the newly inaugurated Yellow Line of , to be precise. From the moment the first train rolled out of RV Road Interchange, the excitement was quite palpable as commuters in this part of the city had a train to catch — junking, for once, the thought of having to negotiate a nightmare called rush-hour traffic. When TOI visited RV Road (one of the terminal stations on Yellow Line) in the early hours, there were many commuters, with some capturing their first Yellow Line ride on their mobile phones. On the train, there were those hunting for a seat, perhaps to catch a quick nap on the 35-minute glide to Bommasandra (the last stop). By 8am, at Silk Board, the train had no vacant seats left. From RV Road, it was a seven-minute ride to BTM Layout, 11 minutes to Silk Board, 25 minutes to Electronics City, and 34 minutes to the terminal at Bommsandra. Electronics City saw the highest footfall as hundreds of professionals swapped road chaos for a smooth, signal-free Metro ride. And it was not just commuters to Electronics City who were all smiles. The Yellow Line attracted even those living in the southern fringes of the city, who need to travel to Whitefield daily for work. With the fare capped at Rs 90 over 45 stations from Electronics City to Whitefield — with two changes — the Yellow Line is already proving to be a game changer. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Fourth rake by next week However, despite the obvious advantages of the Yellow Line, many passengers said the 25-minute wait for a train was a major dampener and hoped BMRCL would expedite induction of more rakes to shorten the wait time. At present, BMRCL is operating services on the Yellow Line with three rakes. A fourth is expected to arrive next week. A BMRCL official said: "Heavy rain along the Andhra-Karnataka border has delayed arrival of the rake." By March 2026, the Yellow Line is expected to have 15 trainsets running at a frequency of five minutes during peak hours and eight minutes during non-peak hours, BMRCL sources revealed. Need for platform doors The increased wait time for trains on Yellow Line had a ripple effect in terms of crowding at RV Road station. With the Green Line now operating at four to eight-minute intervals, passengers getting off those trains now must wait for nearly 20 minutes before they can get on to a Yellow Line train. No wonder Metro station staff had a tough time managing the crowd at R V Road. In view of this, Bangalore South MP Tejasvi Surya, who travelled on the Yellow Line on Monday, urged BMRCL to install platform screen-doors at R V Road as a safety measure.
