How Donald Trump might steal Christmas

Economist24-04-2025

Times are bleak in Toyland. So bleak that Bratz dolls' flowing locks are at risk. 'There is no American factory anywhere that can make hair for dolls,' fumes Isaac Larian, boss of MGA Entertainment, the Los Angeles company that makes the fashion figurines. 'What am I supposed to do? Sell bald dolls?'

My brother got my name tattooed on his FACE – people think ‘it screams unemployment' & has ‘ruined his chances at love'

Jozie Rorebeck explained that her sibling, Riley Rorebeck, recently surprised her with a forehead inking dedicated to her. Alongside a short clip that has now gone viral, Jozie wrote: 'My brother got my name tatted on his face.' She then added: 'I'll absolutely never go to bed questioning if I'm loved EVER again.' To share his affection for his sister, the young man who already has tattoos on his arms and hands, got his sibling's name inked on his forehead. Jozie, who described Riley as her 'ride or die' explained that the placement of the tattoo was to replicate a similar inking to a famous American rapper and singer-songwriter. She confirmed that Riley wanted it in the same place and in an identical front as Lil Pepp, who has the 'Crybaby', his fourth mixtape, inked above his eyebrow. It comes eight years after the death of the artist, who was a rising star in the music industry. But the TikTok clip, which was posted under the username @jozierorebeck just two days ago, has clearly left many open-mouthed, as it has quickly gone viral and amassed 1.3 million views. It has also racked up 174,400 likes, 1,566 comments and 6,717 shares. But social media users have been left totally divided by the man's large face tattoo. I never have to buy clothes as I've got them tattooed on & love it but trolls totally disagree While some thought it was 'adorable', others claimed it had ruined not only his chances at finding a partner, but also at securing a job too. One user gushed: 'Literally so sweet.' A second agreed: 'This is genuinely so adorable.' Whilst someone else chimed in: 'This is the sweetest thing ever.' But at the same time, not everyone was as complimentary, as one person said: 'Any sister in their right mind would never let their brother do that to themselves.' RIP his job applications TikTok user To this, Jozie replied and confirmed: 'My family and I had no idea he was doing this.' Meanwhile, another hater gasped: 'A face tat for your sis is crazy.' A third begged: 'Please say that's a temporary tattoo.' Which tattoos hurt the most? Depending on what part of your body you choose to ink, tattoos can range significantly in terms of pain levels. Some of the most painful areas are those where the skin tends to be thinner or closer to the bone. Each area has specific factors which contribute to the level of pain. Ribcage: Thin skin, little muscle, and many nerve endings. Feet and ankles: Many bones, tendons, and nerve endings close to the surface. Hands and fingers: Many bones, tendons, and nerve endings, resulting in increased pain during tattooing. Knuckles can be especially painful. Spine: Proximity of the spinal cord and nerve endings makes it sensitive. Tattooing directly over the vertebrae can be especially painful. Knees and elbows: Thin skin and little padding between the skin and the underlying bones. Armpits and groin: High concentration of nerve endings and lymph nodes. Neck and throat: Thin and sensitive skin, with many nerve endings and blood vessels close to the surface. Source: Tatt2Away Someone else questioned: 'Is he never planning on having a wife or kids??' Similarly, another hater claimed: 'Ruined his chances at love.' Not only this, but others shared their concern for Riley's future career, as one user slammed: 'RIP his job applications,' and another suggested: 'Screams unemployment.' M3GAN 2.0 (15) ★★★ In the two years since satirical sci-fi horror comedy M3GAN came out, a lot of the generative AI tech its killer toy-bot plot was riffing on has become worryingly commonplace. It's appropriate, then, that its outré sequel M3GAN 2.0 has undergone an exponential upgrade in keeping with its title. If the first film operated in a speculative sweet-spot somewhere between getting in under the wire and being late to the party (turncoat robots and humanity-destroying AI have, after all, been a staple of cinema for decades), the new film's goofily preposterous plot is so outlandish it manages to make a weirdly trenchant mockery of our current chaotic reality, right down to the fact it opens with an AI-powered attack on Iran by an incompetent American government agency that hasn't thought through the destabilising consequences of its actions. Gemma (Allison Williams) and M3GAN in M3GAN 2.0, directed by Gerard Johnstone. | Contributed As accidentally tasteless as that sounds, the film quickly returns us to the world of the first film where M3gan's chastened inventor, Gemma (Allison Williams), has volte-faced into becoming a public evangelist for responsible tech restrictions while simultaneously trying to take a more hands-on approach to parenting Cady (Violet McGraw), the orphaned, now-teenaged, niece she mistakenly left to the care of the over-zealous M3gan doll first time round (M3gan is once again partly played by teenage dancer Amie Donald and voiced by Jenna Davis). Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad As the film opens, that murderous robo-protector now exists in cyberspace only, her body having been destroyed and her source code supposedly erased. But when a US military-sanctioned cyborg assassin ripped off from M3gan goes rogue (she's called Amelia and is played by Ivanna Sakhno), Gemma – with Cady's help – has to reboot, rebuild and reprogram her original creation to take it down, Terminator 2-style. M3GAN in M3GAN 2.0 directed by Gerard Johnstone | Contributed Once again directed by Gerard Johnstone and produced by horror maestros James Wan and Jason Blum, the film certainly isn't shy about embracing its influences, paying blatant tongue-in-cheek homage to the aforementioned T2 (and the Matrix) as it morphs into a full-scale action extravaganza. Consequently, it sacrifices the slasher movie element that made the first film such a hoot, though mercifully not the campiness, which provides waves of weirdness that ensure that, while M3GAN 2.0 is no candidate for greatness, it is, in its own bizarre way, an amusing reflection of the current moment.

Azealia Banks cancels UK festivals with claims she was pressured to 'support Pal

Azealia Banks has announced that she will no longer be performing Boomtown of Maiden Voyage after 'dealing with threats' from organisers. The controversial American rapper, 34, took to social media to claim that she was being forced to say she supports Palestine or be cut from the lineup, a claim the promoters deny. Taking to X, the 212 singer told her fans: 'So guys, I am cancelling Boomtown and Maiden Voyage. 'The promoters have been stressing me out for weeks trying to force me to say free Palestine and threatening to cut me from the bill because I won't say free Palestine and I'm not dealing with the threats and I'm not putting on a f***ing hijab. She added: 'I would much rather drop them and not associate with anything that has cheap group think bull***t attached to it. 'If they want to allow some no-name dj's to bully them into desecrating the nature of this music ecosystem and make ME the issue – whilst there being absolutely no ethical consumption under capitalism. Then that's fine. She clarified her stance in a following tweet that read: 'And no, I'm not saying f**k actual Palestine. But f**k your dumb a** slogans and performative bulls**t. Y'all wanna make a stance so bad but stand for absolutely nothing.' She continued to share various messages to her fans on social media, taking aim at organisers and performative Palestine supporters. Boomtown confirmed in a statement to Metro that they have not, and would not, dictate the beliefs of performers. 'Following her post on X in the early hours of this morning, we can confirm that Azealia Banks has withdrawn from the lineup and will no longer be performing at Boomtown Festival. 'For clarity, Boomtown does not and will never dictate the personal views and beliefs of performers,' a spokesperson said. The festival announced in January 2024 that it would be fundraising for Medical Aid for Palestinians, and an optional donation was put on all ticket purchases. The festival is set to take place from August 6 to August 10 at the Matterly Estate, Hampshire. Maiden Voyage Festival will take place on August 9 in Burgess Park, London. The change in lineup comes just weeks after Banks took to social media to claim that she was a Zionist. 'It should all be Israel. Palestine cannot support itself without help from other countries so the people should just leave or become naturalised Israelis,' she shared on X. 'Palestine is not a country. The area is called JUDEA for a reason.' The star has become known for her controversial comments, and throughout her career has been accused of homophobia, transphobia and xenophobia towards a variety of different nationalities. Notably, the star has shared a number of rants on X and Instagram, taking aim at various celebrities including Zayn Malik, Skai Jackson, and Kanye West. More Trending In 2016, she filed a police report against Russell Crowe after falling out during a hotel suite party. She also found herself at the centre of controversy in 2021 when she posted a video on Instagram of her exhuming the remains and collecting the bones of her dead cat, Lucifer.
