LIMA'25: 27 Reports Of Home Damage So Far
LANGKAWI, May 22 (Bernama) -- Police have received 27 reports as of yesterday regarding alleged damage to homes, believed to have been caused by shock waves from aerial displays at the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition 2025 (LIMA'25).
Kedah police chief Datuk Fisol Salleh assured that all reports will be thoroughly investigated before being forwarded to the relevant authorities for further action.
'We have the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) to conduct an inspection, and after the inspection and verification are completed, the investigation results will be submitted to the organisers - the Ministry of Defence and Global Exhibitions and Conferences Sdn Bhd (GEC) - to determine the appropriate category,' he said.
He said this at a press conference on security and traffic operations for LIMA'25, held today at the Langkawi Police Training Centre.
At the same time, Fisol expressed hope that all reports were genuine and urged the public not to exploit the situation.
Meanwhile, he said 9,000 parking spaces have been allocated around the Mahsuri International Exhibition Centre (MIEC) and 300 spaces at Resorts World Langkawi for visitors attending LIMA'25 starting tomorrow.
'The public planning to attend the air and maritime shows tomorrow are advised to arrive early to secure parking. I also understand that 35,000 online tickets have been sold, which is a substantial number,' he said.
Fisol also advised the public to use the official LIMA'25 e-hailing service, MyCar, as it offers more convenience than driving themselves. Vehicles with MyCar stickers will not be affected by road closures.
Previously, Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin said the ministry had taken note of the claims of property damage linked to LIMA'25 and would not ignore the concerns raised by affected residents.

‘Victims of boat tragedy were not wearing life jackets'
KLANG: All victims involved in the capsized boat incident in the waters off Tanjung Harapan were believed to not have been wearing life jackets. North Klang District Police chief Asst Comm S. Vijaya Rao (pic) said initial investigations also revealed that the boat, which was being test-driven, was operated by its owner at the time. The absence of life jackets has complicated the search and rescue (SAR) operation for the two remaining missing victims out of the six individuals who were on board. 'Those who engage in activities at sea must wear life jackets, as they prove invaluable during emergencies such as this capsized boat incident. Additionally, possessing swimming skills is essential,' he stated at a press conference held at the search site in Tanjung Harapan yesterday. Vijaya said the location where the boat capsized on Friday had been identified, but strong currents may have swept the two missing victims away and caused them to drown. Meanwhile, he said police had recorded statements from three individuals, including one survivor, Bernama reported. 'The actual cause of the incident has yet to be determined, and the case is being investigated under Section 280 of the Penal Code.' In the incident at about 5pm, three individuals, including a child, died; one survived (Alvin Chang Yan Qin, 17), while a married couple remains missing. The deceased were Darren Gan, three; Cheu Son Hin, 50; and Fong Yong Sen, 29, while those still missing have been identified as Gan Hon Tat, 32, and his wife Careen Man, 29, both from Klang Utama.

Sukuk misuse case: Tan Sri to be quizzed soon following hospital discharge, says Azam
KUALA LUMPUR: A Tan Sri who is under investigation by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) over the alleged misappropriation of sukuk funds linked to a Klang Valley highway project is expected to be called in for questioning soon. The individual, who was recently discharged from hospital, is also being investigated for overseas asset ownership and high-stakes gambling activities involving millions of ringgit. MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki confirmed that the Tan Sri, who is believed to be a highway concession holder, had yet to give his statement due to recent medical treatment at a private hospital, reported Astro Awani. 'A statement has not yet been recorded from the Tan Sri, but I have been informed that doctors have recently allowed him to be discharged. My officers will be contacting him soon to arrange an appointment,' said Azam on Saturday (June 7). He added that while the individual is a key witness in the case, MACC has already recorded statements from 45 other witnesses, some of whom have been recalled to assist further in the investigation. 'He is indeed one of the individuals we have yet to question, but we already have testimonies from other witnesses. I cannot confirm whether additional witnesses will be required after his statement,' Azam said. According to sources, MACC had earlier obtained medical confirmation from the doctor regarding the Tan Sri's condition before proceeding to plan for his interview. The investigation centres around the suspected misappropriation of sukuk bonds intended for the construction of a highway. On June 3 last year, MACC disclosed that they had seized assets valued about RM143mil from the individual as part of the probe. This included luxury vehicles and properties owned by the Tan Sri, both locally and abroad, including in London and Switzerland. The seized assets comprised 14 personal bank accounts totalling RM4.5mil, eight company accounts with RM33mil, a luxury condominium and a parcel of land valued at RM24.5mil, nine luxury cars worth RM7.65mil, designer watches valued at around RM25mil, handbags worth RM3mil, jewellery and diamonds estimated at RM6mil, and four horses valued at RM400,000. Other seized items include high-end alcoholic beverages worth RM3mil, foreign assets estimated at over RM15mil, and gambling-related activities involving about RM20mil. Azam said asset declaration notices have been handed to the Tan Sri and other related parties.
