Lewis Hamilton finished seventh at Belgian Grand Prix after starting from pit lane and praised team's strategy and pit stop execution.
Seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton has said that although the Belgian Grand Prix weekend was one to forget, he would take a lot of positives from the Ferrari on Sunday, July 27, when he finished a creditable seventh after starting way below in the race.
Four drivers began from the pit lane, Carlos Sainz, Fernando Alonso, Kimi Antonelli and Hamilton, having made changes to their power units or set-up overnight. They started at the rear of the field ahead of the rolling start at the start of lap 5 but that was a big strategic call that bore fruit.
Alex Albon clung on to finish sixth for Williams ahead of chasing Hamilton of Ferrari, who began from the pit lane and Racing Bulls' rookie Liam Lawson.
'Today's race was a positive step forward. The strategy and pit stop were executed perfectly and the overnight changes we made to the setup allowed me to get the most out of the car," Hamilton said while speaking to Formula One's website.
'I felt much more comfortable behind the wheel and I'm pleased with how everything came together," Hamilton added.
On lap 12, Hamilton was the first in for medium slick tyres, rejoining 18th, followed by Oscar Piastri, Leclerc, Max Verstappen, Andre Russell and more. Lando Norris stayed out one lap longer for hards, hoping to profit if his rival's rubber degraded in the closing laps.
The only pit stop, executed in just 2.2 seconds, was one of the fastest of the day.
By lap 15, everyone else had switched to mediums and it was Piastri on top ahead of Norris by 9.3 with Leclerc third, leading Verstappen, Russell, Albon and in flying form, Hamilton.
Piastri went on to win the race, with Norris second and Leclerc third. World champion Verstappen finished fourth.

Venus Williams Gets Wild-Card For Mixed Doubles Event At US Open

Last Updated: Venus Williams is set to compete at the US Open next month, entering the mixed doubles event with Reilly Opelka via a wild-card entry. Venus Williams is set to make her comeback at the U.S. Open next month, joining the revamped mixed doubles tournament with Reilly Opelka through a wild-card entry. The 45-year-old Williams returned to the tennis tour last week after an absence of over a year. She and Opelka were among the 14 teams announced Tuesday by the U.S. Tennis Association for its mixed doubles event on Aug. 19-20. Eight pairs earned direct entry into the tournament based on their combined current singles rankings, while six teams received wild cards from the USTA. Who Are The Other Players? The lineup features nine players who have won at least one Grand Slam singles title and 14 players currently ranked in the WTA or ATP top 10 for singles. The eight pairs with direct entry are No. 11 Emma Navarro and No. 1 Jannik Sinner; No. 10 Paula Badosa and No. 5 Jack Draper; No. 3 Iga Swiatek and No. 13 Casper Ruud; No. 12 Elena Rybakina and No. 4 Taylor Fritz; No. 7 Amanda Anisimova and No. 9 Holger Rune; Belinda Bencic and No. 3 Alexander Zverev; No. 4 Jessica Pegula and No. 15 Tommy Paul; No. 5 Mirra Andreeva and No. 14 Daniil Medvedev. Alongside Williams-Opelka, the wild-card entrants include Emma Raducanu and No. 2 Carlos Alcaraz; No. 8 Madison Keys and No. 12 Frances Tiafoe; Olga Danilovic and No. 6 Novak Djokovic; Taylor Townsend, who debuted at No. 1 in women's doubles this week, and No. 7 Ben Shelton; and last year's U.S. Open mixed doubles champions, Sara Errani and Andrea Vavassori. This star-studded group contrasts sharply with the lesser-known players and doubles specialists typically seen in the mixed doubles bracket at a Grand Slam. Some players criticised the planned changes when announced in February, with Errani and Vavassori describing the new setup as a 'pseudo-exhibition focused only on entertainment and show," marginalising true doubles players. In an effort to attract high-profile names, the USTA increased the prize money, rescheduled mixed doubles to the week before singles competition, and changed the format to first-to-four-game sets with no-ad scoring. Sixteen pairs will compete for the $1 million top prize, with the final two wild-card pairs to be announced later by the USTA. Williams may still request and receive a wild-card entry for singles, expected to be announced by the USTA the week of Aug. 11. Last week, Williams won one match each in singles and doubles at the D.C. Open in Washington, marking her return since competing at the Miami Open in March 2024. Williams holds seven Grand Slam titles in singles, 14 in women's doubles—won with her younger sister Serena—and two in mixed doubles. Opelka, a 6-foot-11 (2.11-meter) American, is 27 years old and was previously ranked in the top 20. He is now No. 74 after nearly two full seasons sidelined due to injuries. Some partnerships hoping to enter the tournament but not listed on Tuesday include Katie Boulter and Alex de Minaur, Jasmine Paolini and Lorenzo Musetti, Aryna Sabalenka and Grigor Dimitrov, Naomi Osaka and Nick Kyrgios, Karolina Muchova and Andrey Rublev, Iva Jovic and Jenson Brooksby, Gaby Dabrowski and Felix Auger-Aliassime, Demi Schuurs and Tallon Griekspoor, Katerina Siniakova and Marcelo Arevalo, Desirae Krawczyk and Evan King, and Su-Wei Hsieh and Jan Zielinski. Manoj Tiwary Against India-Pakistan Match In 2025 Asia Cup: 'How Can We...'

Last Updated: Former cricketer Manoj Tiwary opposes the India-Pakistan match in the 2025 Asia Cup due to recent terrorist attacks. The tournament runs in UAE from September 9-28. On Tuesday, former cricketer Manoj Tiwary expressed his opposition to the scheduled India-Pakistan match in the 2025 Asia Cup, which begins in September. His comments followed the announcement by the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) that the Men's Asia Cup 2025 will be held in the United Arab Emirates from September 9 to 28, with the highly anticipated India-Pakistan match set for September 14. Speaking to ANI, Tiwary said, 'I am against it. The India-Pakistan match should not be held. Especially after the terrorist attack in Pahalgam in which civilians have been killed. After that, Operation Sindoor has taken place." Group A in the Asia Cup includes India, Pakistan, UAE, and Oman, while Group B comprises Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, and Hong Kong. Tiwary believes the India-Pakistan match shouldn't occur in such circumstances. 'The situation was so bad, how can we think of an India-Pakistan match? I feel that it should be reconsidered and the India-Pakistan match should not happen in such an environment," he told ANI. Prime Minister Narendra Modi issued a stern warning to Pakistan from the Lok Sabha on Tuesday, stating that if they dare to act against India, they will receive a fitting response, as India's Operation Sindoor is still ongoing. Regarding this, Tiwary commented on PM Modi's statement, noting that since Operation Sindoor is still underway, scheduling a match against Pakistan seems illogical. 'Our Prime Minister is saying that Operation Sindoor is still going on… How can we play a match with Pakistan?" Tiwary asked. Meanwhile, the tournament opener between Afghanistan and Hong Kong is set for September 9. India will begin their campaign against UAE on September 10, with the high-voltage game against Pakistan scheduled for September 14. India will play their final group stage match against Oman on September 19. Following the group stage, the tournament will advance to the Super 4, where the top two teams from each group will qualify. The final is scheduled for September 28. view comments Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Please keep discussions respectful and constructive. 'Some People Like To Play With Fire': MS Dhoni's Cheeky Marriage Advice Goes Viral

Dhoni, while making an appearance at the wedding of Utkarsh Sanghvi and Dhvani Kanungo, offered some marital advice that quickly went viral on social media. Former Indian cricketer MS Dhoni, otherwise called 'Captain Cool', is generally known to be a very jovial person. True to his nature, the former Indian skipper was seen giving some marriage advice dosed with a splash of humour as he raised a toast to the groom at a wedding. Dhoni, while making an appearance at the wedding of Utkarsh Sanghvi and Dhvani Kanungo, offered some marital advice that quickly went viral on social media. The veteran Chennai Super Kings player took the stage and said, 'Marriage is a very good thing. You were the one in a hurry to do it." 'Some people like to play with fire. He is one of them… Now, Utkarsh is also under an illusion. My answer is the same as always," he further said, in a reference to his famous 'meri wali alag hai (My woman is different) line. 'Every husband here is in the same boat. It hardly matters whether you've won a World Cup or not," Dhoni added. Speaking to the bride, Dhoni said, 'If your husband is angry, don't say anything in that moment. We cool down in five minutes. We know our power." Concluding his speech, the former cricketer mentioned that men laugh at his jokes, while wishing the best to the newly married couple. While stepping down from the stage, the crowd started chanting, 'Dhoni! Dhoni!", just like a stadium match. The video received more than 4.2 million views on Instagram and 328,000 likes since it was uploaded. 'Stand-up comedians ki job ab khatre me (the jobs of stand-up comedians are in danger)," a user said in the comment section. 'And Dhoni Finishes off in Style," another person said. A third person wrote, 'THALA did graduation in marriage and love department." The legendary MS Dhoni continues to be one of the biggest draws in IPL despite having retired from international cricket for nearly five years now. His future though remains a hotly debated topic especially with his abilities hampered by a knee injury which has limited his mobility. view comments First Published: July 29, 2025, 23:36 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
