Ulrika Jonsson, 57, slams 'vindictive' trolls and 'nasty' comments on her appearance

Daily Mirror2 days ago
Ulrika Jonsson has been forced to address 'vindictive' and 'nasty' comments made by online trolls after she appeared on a recent podcast to discuss her sobriety
When Ulrika Jonsson was invited on a podcast to discuss her sobriety journey, the comments about her drinking habits from the past went viral. But her appearance soon became a major talking appoint among those who watched the recording of her being interviewed by former Made In Chelsea star, Spencer Matthews.

Many were left concerned and shocked over her appearance as they felt she had drastically aged, while some took the opportunity to send the former presenter vile cruel comments.

And so this prompted the mum of four to hit back in style in a bid to silence her trolls, who watched her on the Untapped Podcast.

Writing in The Times, she defended her appearance. She said: "I've fought hard against the whole perception of women being solely about beauty and image. I'm a practical woman and I come with a wealth of experience, kindness and intelligence."
Ulrika added: "The fact that I now have wrinkles, lines and jowls should be of no consequence. I know I look older. But then I should: I'm a menopausal mother of four whose body and face has lived quite the life."
Ulrika claimed that she had decided to not wear make-up as she forgot her session with Spencer was being filmed.

Despite not having had a holiday in seven years, she attributed her tanned appearance to spending a lot of time in the garden.
This comes after the TV personality took to Instagram last week to silence the keyboard warriors who decided to post vile comments about her look.

At the time, she posted a selfie and captioned the post saying: "I feel I need to address something. I don't get a lot of nasty comments - or if I do, I don't see them or send people love in response. But a couple of weeks ago I took part in a fab podcast @untapped.podcast to discuss my sobriety with the smart @spencermatthews."
She added: "I wore no make-up. Partly because I kinda forgot that a project for the ears is nowadays also a feast for the eyes. But as someone who has had to wear heavy make-up on screen from 5am for years, I'm not a fan."]
Ulrika continued: "Most crucially tho, since childhood I've suffered from eczema. On my body - the creases of my arms and legs - on my face - eyes and lips. Make-up has always been the enemy because it's been agony to wear. There were a lot of positive comments about the WORDS I said on the podcast. But a considerable amount about my tanned appearance."

She went on to say: "AND how OLD I look. In a few weeks I will be 58. I will never look like the fresh 21yr old that used to greet you first thing in the morning by the weather board. I'm not ashamed to say that I am a sun worshipper and will no doubt pay the price for that. But UV lamps and salt baths, astringent solutions and creams were a feature of my life since I was a small child."
She concluded her post adding: "I have uneven pigmentation doubtlessly not helped by ageing. I sometimes use filters in my pics because it's easier than foundation and less painful. I work tirelessly in my garden year round and often in the sun. I rarely sunbathe any more. Haven't had a sun bed for 6 months - which I do occasionally in winter months. Not ashamed."
She also urged her trolls to listen to what is being said in a podcast rather than spending time to judge a woman as they "might learn something."

Lisa Faulkner makes first public statement since John Torode's MasterChef firing

To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video Up Next Previous Page Next Page John Torode's wife Lisa Faulkner has thanked fans for their kind words after the MasterChef star was axed for allegedly using a racist slur. The TV presenter and chef, 60, was removed from the cooking competition alongside his co-host Gregg Wallace, also 60, earlier this month. Wallace stepped away from MasterChef in November last year while an in-depth investigation was conducted into the historical allegations regarding his behaviour on the show. It was found that 45 out of 83 allegations were upheld following the investigation. Wallace said he was 'deeply sorry' for his past actions but insisted that the most serious allegations were unproven. Shortly afterwards it emerged that co-host Torode's contract would also not be renewed after nine complaints were lodged against him. Among these was a claim that he 'used the N-word' on two separate occasions, which he said he has no memory of. Now, taking to Instagram, Torode's wife Lisa has made her first public statement. Lisa Faulkner has spoken publicly for the first time since her husband John Torode's axing from the BBC (Picture: James Veysey/Shutterstock) The couple have previously presented together on John and Lisa's Weekend Kitchen (Picture: Geraint Warrington/Shutterstock) The 53-year-old former actress, who has had roles in Brookside, Holby City, and EastEnders, filmed herself from what appears to be her garden. She said: 'Hi there, I just wanted to check in and say hello and I'm here. 'Just thank you for all your really lovely comments because they really mean a lot, so thank you.' Lisa, who now presents and does home cooking on her social media, met Torode in 2010 when she won Celebrity MasterChef. Despite both of them being married to other people at the time, their friendship blossomed into a relationship, with Torode reportedly winning her over with a love letter. After marrying in 201,9 the pair went on to work with each other on various cooking shows. He was seen on his 60th birthday on July 23 visiting an organic food store near his home in north London. The sighting came after Wallace told The Sun he has unfollowed both Torode and Lisa on social media. Speaking about Torode in his first interview since being sacked, Wallace said: 'We never really did get on that well. 'We're two very, very different characters. But we made bloody good telly together for 20 years.' Torode was recently spotted out on a walk on his 60th birthday (Picture: Sdove) Torode was axed from the BBC for allegedly using a racist slur (Picture: Ken McKay/ITV/Shutterstock) Despite the findings of the investigation, the BBC confirmed that the series of MasterChef filmed before Wallace and Torode's sackings will air as normal despite it featuring both presenters. A BBC spokesperson said: 'After careful consideration and consultation with the contestants, we have decided to broadcast the amateur series of MasterChef on BBC One and BBC iPlayer from August 6. 'MasterChef is an amazing competition which is life-changing for the amateur chefs taking part. The focus of it has always been their skill and their journey.' The spokesperson revealed that it had 'not been an easy decision in the circumstances' and acknowledged that not everyone would agree with the final result. They added: 'In showing the series, which was filmed last year, it in no way diminishes our view of the seriousness of the upheld findings against both presenters. 'We have been very clear on the standards of behaviour that we expect of those who work at the BBC or on shows made for the BBC.' Got a story? Sturgeon agrees to TV interview ahead of memoir release

The interview will focus on the memoir's most striking revelations, delving into the ex-SNP leader's successes and controversies, personal insights and political flashpoints. It is being produced by the ITV News team responsible for previous key political interviews with former Prime Ministers David Cameron in 2019 and Boris Johnson last year. From her rise as a working class girl to the pinnacle of Scottish politics as first female First Minister, she has charted dizzying political heights to being hailed the most dangerous woman in Britain. In what I hope will be a revealing encounter, I can't wait to see how Nicola Sturgeon lifts the lid on her politics, life and legacy - and to find out where she heads next.' Ms Sturgeon has declared nearly £200,000 in outside earnings since standing down from the top job in Scottish politics. Her book, Frankly, is expected to lift the lid on her nine years as Scotland's leader and the breakdown of her friendship with the late Alex Salmond. According to her Holyrood register of interest, she received £75,000 in 2023 from publishers Pan Macmillan for the first of four instalments of a book advance. Nicola Sturgeon Ltd also received £25,000 from broadcaster ITN after the former SNP leader appeared on a general election night results show. To coincide with publication of her book, fans of Ms Sturgeon are being charged £75 to attend a 'meet and greet' with her later this year ahead of an interview in Edinburgh. The fee is on top of ticket prices for the event at the 2200 capacity Usher Hall which stretch to £73.95 including the booking fee. In an Instagram post, she plugged an 'evening with Nicola Sturgeon' in the Capital in which she would reflect on her career in politics. Ms Sturgeon, who is standing down from Holyrood next year, has been accused of being a part-time MSP since resigning as FM, with critics hitting out at her attendance record.
