North Al Batinah launches second phase of Summer Centres activities
The second phase of the General Directorate of Social Development in North Al Batinah Governorate's participation in the 2025 Summer Centers activities was launched this morning.
The participation, supervised by the Office of His Excellency the Governor of North Al Batinah, is a continuation of community efforts to harness the energies of children and youth during the summer vacation, through specialised activities implemented by civil society organisations in various wilayats of the governorate.
Omani Women's Associations participated, along with charitable groups, civil society organisations, and Al Wafa Centers for the Rehabilitation of Persons with Disabilities.
Sultan bin Qais bin Saif Al Abri, Director General of the General Directorate of Social Development in North Al Batinah Governorate, explained that "this participation comes within the framework of effective partnerships between various community institutions to provide an educational and recreational environment for our students during the summer, contributing to building their personalities and developing their capabilities in various fields."
The participation of the Omani Women's Associations included a variety of programs and workshops. These include traditional industrial workshops and palm frond workshops, in addition to scientific programs, creative thinking workshops, and a number of health workshops, along with various volunteer initiatives.
As for the Al Wafa Centers for the Rehabilitation of Persons with Disabilities, their activities varied across several governorates in North Al Batinah, focusing on a number of artistic industries, including gypsum and accessories, and candle mold making.
As part of the participation of charitable groups and civil society organizations, the Liwa Charity Harvest Team organized several interactive workshops, including the "Protect Yourself" workshop and the "Skillful Speaker" workshop, in addition to awareness programs titled "Your Awareness Saves Lives" and the importance of cybersecurity.
These participations affirm the importance of activating institutional community work and integrating efforts between government agencies and civil society organizations, contributing to enhancing the capabilities of children and adolescents and honing their skills in a safe and stimulating environment.

Military Technological College welcomes new batch of students
Muscat: The Military Technological College on Wednesday welcomed a new batch of General Diploma students admitted through the Higher Education Admission Centre (HEAC) at the Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation, as part of the study coupled with employment program. The students will complete the essential admission requirements, including written tests, medical examinations, and personal interviews. Studies at the college begin with a foundation year, which includes courses in English, mathematics, physics, and computer science, preparing students to join specialised engineering programmes. Their academic track includes practical training in laboratories and workshops, tailored to each student's specialisation. This year, the college opened admissions for non-employment-linked studies for both male and female students, providing on-campus housing for male students and dedicated transportation services for female students. This initiative aims to create a comprehensive educational environment that meets their needs. The new batch of students admitted under this track is expected to arrive in the coming days.

Thumrait Sanitary Landfill elevates waste management in Dhofar to global standards
Thumrait: Oman Environmental Services Holding Company (be'ah) is designing and constructing a second cell at Thumrait Sanitary Landfill in Dhofar Governorate, with an additional capacity of 3,029,768 cubic metres. The first cell of the landfill was operationalized in 2017 with a capacity of 2,345,910 cubic metres. This step comes in response to the growing demand for waste management services in the governorate. The company is also currently building an integrated leachate treatment station at the landfill. The treated water produced will be used for irrigating inedible plants, among other applications that enhance efficiency and sustainable operations, reducing environmental impact and preserving natural resources. Eng. Mohsin Mohammed Al Barwani, Director General of Planning and Service Improvement for the Municipal Solid Waste Sector, stated that Thumrait Landfill represents an effective model for sustainable, science-based waste management, adhering to global best practices to minimise emissions and maximize resource utilisation. In a statement to Oman News Agency (ONA), he emphasised that be'ah remains committed to innovation in waste management, strengthening partnerships with government entities and the community, and developing environmental infrastructure to support future generations and contribute to a cleaner, more sustainable future. During Khareef Dhofar season, Thumrait Landfill sees intensified activity in receiving and processing waste, with operations scaling up to accommodate approximately 74 waste trucks daily—averaging 1,200 tonnes per day—compared to the usual 58 trucks and 850 tonnes per day during the rest of the year. It is worth noting that waste reception and processing at the landfill are carried out through precise systems, including weighing, unloading, and preliminary treatment in advanced engineered cells designed and implemented according to the highest global specifications, ensuring environmental safety and community protection.

Public satisfaction with radio contents reaches 76%, TV 73%
Muscat: Public satisfaction with the programming content of Oman Radio and TV reached 76% for radio channels and 73% for TV channels, according to a public opinion survey conducted from 18 May 2025 to 18 June 2025, by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI) in collaboration with the Ministry of Information. Satisfaction with TV content covering national occasions, religious events, and weather conditions reached approximately 88%, while content related to raising awareness, government and tourism projects, social issues, and children's programs scored around 69%. Omani viewers primarily engaged with Oman TV's religious and cultural programmes such as 'Matoun', 'Dhifaf' and 'Al Fahras' as well as talk shows like 'Al-Bayt' (The House) and 'Kunna Huna' (We Were Here), and Ramadhan drama series such as 'Al Waqeed' and 'Al-Madyoonir'. For radio content, satisfaction levels stood at 88% for coverage of national occasions, religious events, and weather conditions, and around 74% for government and tourism projects, social issues, and children's programs. Omanis showed the highest interest in religious programs, Ramadhan talk shows like 'Layali Ramadhan' (Ramadhan Nights), and radio drama series such as 'Sawalif Al Jadd Hameed', 'Qala'ed Al-Yasmin', 'Dalshad' and 'Rihla Shaqqa'. At the governorate level, South Al Sharqiyah recorded the highest satisfaction with radio content at 84%. Satisfaction was equal between genders at 74%, while the age group 30-49 registered 78%. For TV content, South Al Sharqiyah and Al Dakhiliyah governorates recorded the highest satisfaction at 76%, with equal satisfaction between genders at 74%. The survey aimed to strengthen communication between the Ministry of Information and the public by involving citizens in media evaluation, contributing to content development, and measuring satisfaction with the quality and diversity of programming on Oman Radio and TV. It also sought to identify audience preferences regarding programme types and media content, ensuring alignment with the aspirations and needs of various age and social groups.
