
North Sharqiyah winter activities draw over 450,000 visitors
Bidiyah – North Sharqiyah governorate has welcomed over 450,000 visitors to its winter activities so far, according to Badr bin Ahmed al Habsi, Director of the Events and Awareness Department in the governorate.
Among the standout events, the inaugural Sinaw Festival – held from February 2 to 8 under the theme 'Sinaw is Our Destination' – drew more than 150,000 visitors from across Oman and beyond.
The festival featured an array of cultural, entertainment, social, and heritage activities, including poetry evenings with participants from Oman, the UAE and Qatar, as well as camel racing competitions and a scientific symposium on livestock.
Additionally, exhibitions showcasing heritage, agriculture, and small and medium enterprises (SMEs) provided a platform for local businesses and productive families.
Other major attractions in the governorate included the Bidyah Carnival in the wilayat of Bidyah, which attracted nearly 120,000 visitors in four days, and the Water Activities Festival in the wilayat of Wadi Bani Khalid, which saw around 50,000 visitors.
The Zad al Rakeb event in the wilayat of Ibra, focused on horse and camel activities, drew approximately 40,000 visitors, while the ongoing 'Rahala' event in the wilayat of Al Qabil, set to continue until February 27, has already welcomed 100,000 visitors.
These festivals have significantly boosted domestic tourism, provided temporary job opportunities, and supported SMEs and local businesses. Hotel and tourism facilities in the region experienced full occupancy during several festival days, highlighting the economic benefits of these large-scale events.
