Born in 1944 in Hodigere village of Channagiri taluk, Davanagere district, HSV's contributions to Kannada literature spanned more than five decades. A professor of Kannada by profession, he taught at St. Joseph's College of Commerce in Bengaluru for over 30 years. His academic pursuit also saw him earning a Ph.D. with a dissertation on 'Kathanakavanas in Kannada,' reflecting his deep engagement with narrative poetry.
HSV emerged during the Navya literary movement, beginning with his first poetry collection Parivrutta in 1968. Over the years, he published more than 100 works across genres including poetry, plays, and children's literature. His poems, known for their lyrical simplicity and philosophical depth, were widely popular in the Bhavageethe tradition. Among his acclaimed poetry collections are Bagilu, Badiva Janagalu, Saugandhika, and Moovattu Malegaala. His plays like Hejjegalu, Agnivarna, and Ondu Sainika Vruttanta also received critical acclaim.

Beyond literature, HSV made significant contributions to Kannada cinema and television. He wrote lyrics and dialogues for films such as Chinnari Mutha, Kotreshi Kanasu, America America, and Kirik Party. His title songs for iconic TV serials like Mukta and Mahaparva remain etched in public memory.
He received several awards during his lifetime, including the Karnataka Sahitya Academy Award, the Rajyotsava Award, and the Sahitya Akademi Translation Prize. He also presided over the 85th Kannada Sahitya Sammelana held in Kalaburagi, one of the highest literary honours in the state.
More details about the last rites of HSV are yet to revealed by the family. Many prominent personalities from Kannada cinema and literature are expected pay their tributes to the poetic giant.

Uncertainty looms over Devil release after actor Darshan's arrest
'Idre Nemdi Agirbek'(You should be at peace always), the first song from Kannada actor Darshan's upcoming film, Devil, was supposed to release on Independence Day. Ironically, on Thursday, Darshan's career hit the pause button again after he was arrested in connection with the Renukaswamy murder case, following the Supreme Court order cancelling the bail granted to him and the other accused. Soon after the actor's arrest, the makers announced the postponement of the release of the song 'Idre Nemdi Agirbek' .According to reports, Darshan completed dubbing for the movie, and the makers were eyeing a December 2025 release, said industry insiders. However, with the actor back in police custody, uncertainty looms over the release of the film. The film also stars Mahesh Manjrekar and Sharmiela Mandre and is directed by Prakash Veer.

'Coolie' movie review: A starry spectacle with a thin plot line
Violence, vengeance, and vigilantism mark fanboy filmmaker Lokesh Kanagaraj's much awaited 'Coolie'.Riding heavily on the swag, wit and mannerisms of the mass idol Rajinikanth, 'Coolie' is an ode to the star, who is celebrating his golden jubilee year in learning his friend Rajashekar is murdered, a furious Daya (Rajinikanth) takes it as his life's mission to avenge his film suffers from a sloppily written script that criss-crosses and takes numerous twists and turns to no avail. Despite its many bankable stars, the film fails to provide an engrossing and wholesome experience. The song is the only 'whistle podu' moment for the crowds, apart from the electric presence of their Thalaiva. If you leave out the song, the much-praised Anirudh Ravichander's music comes a Soubin, Upendra steals the limelight as Kaleesha, Daya's comrade in arms (literally).With men forming the combatants in this highly combustible actioner, where every second person is felled with a bullet or machete, the ladies — Shruti Haasan and Rachita Ram — have nothing much to do. The villains just toss them around as bargaining making 'Coolie' bloody and gory, Lokesh Kanagaraj has elevated villainy and violence to its full brutal form. While Rajinikanth lives and walks through his fan-pleasing role, the others play second fiddle to elevate his charisma and screen presence.
