UAE: SIH launches second Heritage Conference in July

SHARJAH (WAM)Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, the second Heritage Conference organised by the Sharjah Institute for Heritage (SIH) will kick off on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, under the theme 'Folk Heritage Through the Eyes of Others.'The event will run until Thursday, July 3, at the Arabian Heritage Centre in Sharjah's University City, with the participation of a distinguished group of academics, experts, and specialists from various Arab and foreign countries.The conference aims to shed light on the image of Emirati and Arab folk heritage as perceived by foreign researchers, through a series of academic papers and discussions that explore examples of intellectual and cultural exchange between local traditions and global perspectives.This comes within the Institute's ongoing efforts to foster civilisational dialogue and share expertise in the fields of heritage preservation and transmission across generations.The first day's programme will see the opening of the accompanying exhibition titled 'Our Heritage Through Their Eyes.' The exhibition features artworks, documents, and field research conducted by non-Arab researchers that highlight their experiences in documenting elements of folk heritage in the region.The programmme of the conference spans two days and includes six specialised sessions addressing a variety of topics. Key themes include: foreign perceptions of folk heritage, cultural discourse in international studies, and the role of global institutions in heritage preservation, in addition to presentations of research projects and field studies from different regions.The Sharjah Institute for Heritage has announced the selection of Dr Saif Mohammed bin Aboud Al Bedwawi as the honouree of this year's conference, in recognition of his scholarly contributions in the fields of historiography and cultural heritage, and his prominent role in documenting the UAE's national memory and strengthening cultural identity through academic studies and reference works.
Dr. Abdulaziz Al Musallam, Chairman of the Sharjah Institute for Heritage (SIH), emphasised that the conference is a vital intellectual milestone for the Institute, saying: 'We are keen to make this conference an open space for dialogue with researchers from around the world, to understand how our heritage is perceived beyond our borders, and how we can present it in ways that preserve its authenticity while aligning with current cultural transformations.'

ABU DHABI (WAM) Under the patronage of UAE President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Abu Dhabi Awards has officially launched its 12th edition. Coinciding with the UAE's Year of Community, and marking 20 years since the inception of Abu Dhabi Awards in 2005, this milestone edition invites citizens, residents, and non-residents to nominate individuals whose selfless acts of goodness and dedication have benefited the UAE community. The invitation embodies the awards' longstanding mission of honouring inspirational individuals who have generously dedicated themselves with passion and commitment to helping others, and contributing to the UAE community without any expectation of recognition or reward. This year's edition celebrates two decades of recognising such individuals. Since its inception, 100 recipients from 18 different nationalities have been recognised for their selfless efforts in various fields. These include community service, sustainability, healthcare, volunteerism, scientific contributions, preservation of culture and heritage, environmental protection, and supporting and empowering People of Determination. Contributions of any type are eligible for nomination. The ongoing efforts of these recipients serve as a testament that even the smallest acts of kindness are powerful in creating a ripple effect, inspiring others to play an active and meaningful role in serving the community. Coinciding with the UAE's declaration of 2025 as the Year of Community, under the theme "Hand in Hand," this edition of Abu Dhabi Awards lends its voice to this national call to preserve and celebrate the values of goodness and giving in the UAE. Nominations for this year's edition are now open, and individuals from across the UAE are invited to nominate inspirational people that have made a meaningful and selfless contribution to the community. The process remains open year-round and is accessible to all through the Abu Dhabi Awards digital platform. Recipients are chosen based on a range of factors, but a single nomination is all it takes to be considered for a prestigious Abu Dhabi Award. Additionally, in line with its unwavering commitment to promoting the values of goodness, this edition will see the launch of 'Goodness in Motion,' a mobile outreach initiative that brings the Abu Dhabi Awards' mission directly to malls, schools, and construction sites. The campaign will include thoughtful giveaways for members of the community, along with engaging activities for children and families, encouraging the public take positive action and recognise the unsung heroes who make a quiet yet meaningful difference in society. Furthermore, the Abu Dhabi Awards Organising Committee will host a series of workshops and roadshows in collaboration with various institutions, including talks held across the country, to raise greater awareness about the award, its values, and the importance of appreciation and giving within the community. Mahra Al Shamsi, member of the Abu Dhabi Awards Organising Committee, said, "Each nomination for the Abu Dhabi Awards celebrates the values of selflessness and dedication that we hold dear within our community. 21 July 2025 19:18 ABU DHABI (WAM)With the release of 81 falcons in the Republic of Kazakhstan in May 2025, the Sheikh Zayed Falcon Release Programme has now entered its fourth recent release activity brings the total number of Saker and Peregrine falcons returned to the wild since the programme's inception to 2, programme aims to increase falcon populations, and protect them from a range of threats contributing to their endangered status, including human activities that encroach on natural habitats, unsustainable breeding practices, and climate the ninth consecutive year, the programme saw 53 Peregrine falcons and 28 Saker falcons released in Kazakhstan – marking's the initiative's fourth decade of operation since it was established in falcons' natural migratory range includes parts of Kazakhstan, Russia, China, Mongolia and neighbouring countries in a region characterised by rugged mountains and vast plains that offer ideal habitats rich in to release, all falcons received comprehensive veterinary checks and intensive training, and were fitted with identification leg bands and implanted with electronic falcons - five of each species - were equipped with solar-powered satellite-tracking devices to monitor survival rates, dispersion and migration routes. The data collected will be used to support the ongoing development of rehabilitation, training and release Ahmed Al Bowardi, Vice Chairman of EAD Board of Directors, and Vice Chairman of the International Fund for Houbara Conservation, extended his sincere gratitude to His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler's Representative in Al Dhafra Region and Chairman of EAD Board of Directors, for his patronage and continuous support of the Sheikh Zayed Falcon Release emphasised that the programme has become one of the world's leading initiatives for the restoration of endangered wildlife species. It stands as a continuation of the legacy of the UAE's Founding Father, and a testament to Abu Dhabi's and the UAE's global leadership in nature conservation and the protection of biodiversity, which is essential for the wellbeing of both the environment and Bowardi commended the successful partnerships that have contributed to the programme's achievements. In addition to the Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi, key partners include the UAE Ministry of Climate Change and Environment, the Mohamed bin Zayed Raptor Conservation Fund, the International Fund for Houbara Conservation and the Abu Dhabi Falcon also acclaimed the support provided by the Office of the Deputy Chairman of the Presidential Court for Special Affairs, and the Embassy of the United Arab Emirates in the Republic of Kazakhstan. Al Bowardi expressed his sincere appreciation to the Committee on Forestry and Wildlife of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan, and the relevant Kazakhstani authorities, for facilitating the work of the joint team in implementing this programme.

21 July 2025 09:35 ABU DHABI (WAM) The eighth UAE aid ship, Khalifa, part of "Operation Chivalrous Knight 3," departed on Monday from Khalifa Port in Abu Dhabi, heading to El Arish Port in the Arab Republic of with urgent relief supplies, the ship forms part of the UAE's ongoing humanitarian support for the Palestinian people in the Gaza is the largest aid vessel dispatched by the UAE to date, carrying 7,166 tonnes of essential food, medical, and relief cargo comprises 4,372 tonnes of food items, 1,433 tonnes of shelter materials, 860 tonnes of medical supplies, and 501 tonnes of health latest shipment brings the total volume of aid sent by the UAE to the Gaza Strip to 77,266 tonnes. The initiative is part of a series of humanitarian efforts launched under Operation Chivalrous Knight 3, underscoring the UAE's steadfast commitment to providing support to those affected and in need, in cooperation with its charitable and humanitarian institutions.
