Time of India4 days ago
Mumbai: A Ghana national, Henry Almoh (34), was arrested in Mumbai after the MIDC police team found him in possession of 289gms of cocaine valued at Rs1.2 crore. The police were surprised to discover that at least 25 calls were received on Almoh's mobile between 10.30 pm and 11 pm by youngsters soon after his arrest on Monday .
The MIDC police said that Almoh had been residing in the Andheri East Vijay Nagar locality for the last four to five years in a rented flat. It was also revealed that his passport expired in 2024 and he had not returned to his home country. Initially, he tried to hide his identity by producing fake Nigerian passport.
Almoh, who stands over six feet tall and is well-built, was caught after six policemen overpowered him when he attempted to escape upon noticing them.
Initially, Almoh tried to overpower the officers, but when the police displayed their firearms, he ceased protesting. "Almoh is booked under the narcotic substance act and is in police custody for a week. We have summoned the flat owner who rented out the flat to Almoh without submitting details to the local police though they have completed the leave and licence registration," said a police officer of the MIDC police station.
Almoh was held following a tip-off received by DCP Datta Nalawade, who set up a trap below the bridge at Salve Nagar near Vijay Nagar, where Almoh resides. DCP Nalawade led the team—ACP Gajanan Pawar, senior inspector Ravindra Wani, inspector Mahesh Gurav, assistant inspector Yash Palwe, and staff—who caught Almoh when he arrived at the locality at 10.30 pm on Monday. "Initially, he handed over Nigerian passport which turned out fake and had fake identity details.
During inquiry, we found Ghanaian passport that too was expired in 2024. He has taken the flat on rent and frequently travelled to Ghana and returned to Mumbai and stayed in Andheri," said an officer.

SHIVPURI: At least four persons were killed and 11 others injured after a mini bus they were travelling in collided with a small truck on National Highway 46 in Madhya Pradesh's Shivpuri district on Saturday, police said. The accident occurred around 5 am, around 30 km from the district headquarters, when the mini bus, carrying a Gujarat-based music troupe, was returning from a programme at the Kashi Vishwanath Temple in Varanasi, Survaya police station SHO Arvind Chari said. According to the police, the bus driver lost control, entered the wrong lane, and collided with the truck. The deceased included Hardik Dave (37), a singer in the troupe, Raja Thakur (28), Ankit Thakur (17), and Rajendra Solanki (47), all members of the band. The injured have been admitted to hospitals in the area. A preliminary probe suggests that the driver of the mini bus, which had 17 people onboard, might have dozed off at the wheel. This is the third such incident reported at the property, which remains locked as Chowdhury now lives in Kolkata's Kasba area. 'Why are they taking medals? They won't get any money for them. They are treasures of my life, the fruits of my career. My house is targeted every time because it stays empty,' Chowdhury said.
