Kanye West changes his name again, now reportedly Ye Ye

IOL News12-06-2025
Kanye West is once again making headlines, this time with a name change that has left fans scratching their heads.
The rapper, who previously rebranded himself as "Ye" in 2021, has officially changed his name to "Ye Ye," according to legal documents filed in a California court.
Kanye West is once again making headlines, this time with a name change that has left fans scratching their heads.
This revelation came to light through Page Six, following filings by his chief financial officer, Hussein Lalani.
As part of the updates submitted to the California Secretary of State, which oversees essential business information, it appears that one of West's major companies has altered its reference to him in official documents.
Ye's brands - most notably the fashion label Yeezy Apparel, along with his production outfits Keezy Record Label and Getting Out Dreams - are now using the new moniker "Ye Ye" in their filings.
Despite the legal documentation now reflecting this change, the 48-year-old artist has yet to issue a public confirmation regarding his new name.
In previous interviews, West has expressed the significance of the name "Ye," describing it as a reflection of collective identity: "In the Bible, it means 'you.' So, I'm you, I'm us … I wanted something that felt with the energy," he shared in a 2018 interview with radio host Big Boy.
His evolving name doesn't appear to be the only topic generating buzz. Earlier this month, West announced on the X platform that he would cease using his original Twitter handle @kanyewest, stating simply, "Ima finally stop using the @kanyewest Twitter cause my name is Ye. Gonna start a ye account and it is what it is."

Kanye West's 'In Whose Name': a documentary journey through brilliance and bedlam

Rapper Kanye West. Image: Instagram. Iconic rapper Kanye West (now known as Ye) recently dropped the trailer for his highly anticipated documentary, "In Whose Name", and judging from the looks of it, fans and foes are in store for a bumpy ride through his chaotic life. A part of the film's synopsis reads: "Immersed in Ye's world of extremes, bore witness to brilliance and breakdowns, triumphs and turmoil, but also observed the paranoia and intensity that increasingly shaped Ye's world." Kim Kardashian and their children make brief cameos in the minute-long trailer, cut from 3 000 hours of never-before-seen footage that was captured over six years. The film is expected to screen at selected cinemas from September 19, and promises to give a "raw and often unsettling" look at West's self-destructing behaviour, the impact of his mental illness, his marriage to Kardashian and his anti-Semitic rants. During the trailer, Kardashian can be heard struggling with her now ex-husband. "Your personality was not like this a few years ago," she says. Video Player is loading. West also discusses his religious experience and journey with Jesus. At some point, he has a meltdown, citing that his creativity is being restricted. The trailer also features clips of West's Sunday Service choir, his unsuccessful presidential campaigns and his bombshell 2020 claim that he and Kardashian had considered an abortion during her pregnancy with North. At the end, West says: "You know what the best thing about being an artist and bipolar? Anything you do and say is an art piece." According to online reports, West allowed filmmaker Nico Ballesteros to follow him for years for the upcoming documentary, but he did not have a say in the editing process. "While Ye is a central figure in the story, he did not have approval rights over any of the film's content or editorial decisions, ensuring it remains an independent creative work," the report stated. Producer Simran A. Singh said in a statement recently: "This film presents a raw and often unsettling portrait, without commentary or conclusion, leaving viewers to interpret the events for themselves. "Nico was living alongside Ye, camera in hand, not fully knowing what he was capturing or where it would lead, and that's exactly what makes the footage so powerful." Singh added: "There was no agenda, no filter; just real, raw moments. Because of that, there's a level of honesty you don't usually get in documentaries. As things started to take shape, it became clear that Nico was the only one who could truly tell this story. "He had the access, but more importantly, he had the perspective. He was inside the chaos but somehow still able to step back and find the story to make a movie." Watch the trailer below.

Bombshells and husband drama with Makoto Phumodi of ‘Married At First Sight SA'

There's no escaping the explosive second season of Showmax's Married at First Sight South Africa as couples attempt to find out if love lies in the arms of a stranger. The social experiment features four couples, including Makoto Phumodi and Nkuleleko Mahlangu, who have audiences glued to their screens. After the official marriages, last night's episode saw the show's wives gathered for drinks as they dropped bombshells about their husbands. We caught up with Phumodi, who didn't hold back when she gave us the inside scoop on her Married at First Sight South Africa journey, from why she signed up for the experiment to what went down with her husband and more. What made you decide to take part in Married at First Sight South Africa? I wanted to try something different. I wanted to look for love in an unconventional way. What was going through your mind the moment you saw your husband at the altar? When I first saw him, I was like: 'I've seen this face before.' We had seen each other in the past, and that was interesting to me because I did not know what to expect. How did you mentally prepare to marry a stranger? By simply being open to the unknown. That is all you can do. There is no manual for the experiment. You and your husband had a disagreement on your wedding night. How did that make you feel? The fight started when he said I must leave my church and serve at his church, so by the time he started being hyper-religious on screen, I was already upset. The Bible says a man must provide and a woman must submit, right? Imagine being asked if you're willing to submit, but you don't know if the guy is willing to provide emotionally, financially, mentally or physically, so I was taken aback by that. However, as you have seen, we moved past that. The conversation around sex between you and your husband sparked a major debate online. Is intimacy a deal breaker for you in a relationship? Intimacy is important to me. If we can't connect emotionally, it won't work. My husband didn't believe in foreplay or kissing when we first met so those are the things we had to learn about each other and overcome. Tshepo Miya has made a few comments about you. What's the story behind the tension between you? My husband confided in Miya a lot. Our argument happened off camera when Miya said I shouldn't ask my husband about his whereabouts, ' Monna ha a botswe o tswa kae.' He was basically saying my husband can do whatever he wants, whenever he wants, and I shouldn't ask anything. When I reacted to the comment, he called me disrespectful. If you could design your ideal husband, what qualities would he have? My ideal husband is someone who's going to take the time to know and understand the type of person I am, embracing every scar and helping me grow. What's your relationship like with the other cast members? Besides my husband, Palesa Mphaki is my girl. We've built a beautiful relationship outside the show. We talk on the phone almost every day. Portia Baloyi and I chat here and there, and as for Nelisa Ntabeni, I don't have a relationship with her. How does it feel to watch your own journey unfold on screen? It's amazing. I'm not shocked by anything. People think I'm acting, but little do they know, I react like that in my everyday life. Why should people keep watching your journey on Married at First Sight South Africa?
