Iowa football QB Mark Gronowski excels in Barstool Sports gauntlet
The "YAK" podcast, hosted by Kyle Bauer along with a rotating cast of other Barstool personalities and guests, discusses a wide range of topics that span from current events to personal anecdotes, often with humor and irreverence. The show airs every Monday through Friday at noon CT, across multiple podcast providers.
As Gronowski and senior offensive lineman Gennings Dunker both visited Barstool Sports' Chicago offices as guests for a few of the company's podcasts, the Hawkeyes quarterback put his skills to the test in the "YAK" podcast's timed sports challenge.
The challenge involved sinking a cornhole toss, scoring a soccer goal from about 30 feet out, bitting a baseball off a self-toss, throwing a football into a target, draining two 3-pointers from opposite ends of a basketball court, and finally answering one of the ten questions the postcast listed (Gronowski chose to name all eight planets in the Solar System).
Following his attempt at the Gauntlet, Gronowski came close to setting a record time, completing all obstacles in 1:39:69, which placed him at No. 6 all-time in the podcast's record books.
Gronowski transferred to Iowa in the offseason portal from FCS-level South Dakota State, where he passed for 10,308 yards and 93 touchdowns while holding a 63.5% completion percentage, to go along with 1,767 career rushing yards and 37 touchdowns on the ground.
He would finish his four-year tenure at South Dakota State with a 49-6 record as a starter, a two-time FCS National Champion and National Championship Game MVP, 2023 Walter Payton Award winner (given to the most outstanding FCS player), and a 2023 First-team FCS All-American.
While the various skills shown in the gauntlet will most likely have absolutely no impact on Gronowski's on-field performance, it does at least create a form of bragging rights and sense of pride heading into what could be an exceedingly successful Hawkeyes 2025-26 campaign.
Gronowski and the Hawkeyes open their season on Aug. 30 when FCS-level Albany visits Kinnick Stadium for a 5 p.m. CT kickoff on FS1.

Two Iowa football stars named preseason All-Americans
The Iowa Hawkeyes are littered with talent up and down their roster on offense, defense, and special teams. With a veteran presence, as they carry most years, the Hawkeyes retained some key contributors for another year and are seeing them receive proper notoriety. Two of those key pieces returning are kick and punt return specialist Kaden Wetjen and offensive lineman Gennings Dunker. Both are expected to continue their success at Iowa with big years in 2025. Wetjen and Dunker helped Iowa win games in 2024, and the same will be expected from them this year. With the expectations on them, both of the Iowa stars have been named Sporting News preseason All-Americans. Both were named to the second team. Kaden Wetjen flashed his magic last year for Iowa on special teams. The return specialist put on a show when he touched the ball and made opponents pay for kicking it to him. Wetjen returned 26 kickoffs, averaging 28 yards per return with a touchdown, and returned 26 punts for 12.6 yards per return with another touchdown. Gennings Dunker figures to be a staple on an Iowa offensive line that could be the catalyst of their success this year. He enters his fourth year with the program with 34 games and 25 starts under his belt. His experience and dependability will be called on by Iowa's offense all season long. Iowa football patiently awaiting injury return of key defensive cog
Iowa football is in the midst of its second week of fall camp. On Wednesday, Iowa head football coach Kirk Ferentz caught up with longtime Hawkeye play-by-play voice Gary Dolphin to update how camp is going. Ferentz revealed that Iowa's defensive depth up front has been tested early in camp. "Up front, Jeremiah Pittman's been out. Unfortunately he's coming off a knee repair, so he's still probably a week or two away from going, but it's given other guys an opportunity to get in there and work some. "Obviously, Aaron Graves on one side's pretty solid and then you've got guys like Will Hubert's really done a good job growing, developing. Bryce Hawthorne, young man from South Dakota State's really been impressive. Luke Gaffney. So, we'll have candidates. It's going to be interesting to see how it all develops and we'll get Jeremiah back at some point. I think at the end of the day, that group's going to be fine," Ferentz said. Pittman, a 6-foot-2, 285-pound graduate defensive lineman, was listed as one of Iowa's two starting defensive tackles to begin the spring opposite senior Aaron Graves. Pittman played in all 13 games last season, registering 17 tackles and 1.5 tackles for loss. The Palatine, Ill., product from St. Viator High School has notched 27 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, one pass breakup and one fumble recovery in his Hawkeye career thus far. Pittman has played in 26 games in his Iowa career and was a three-star signee per 247Sports in the 2021 class.
